Chapter 108

(Arrested)

 

“Here is Barrister Timberlake, the brother of your late husband’s lawyer. He has the original will of Mike, and not what Mark showed to all of us. That one was forged.” Brooklyn said, pointing to the man sitting beside him, who nodded in affirmation.

 

“Look here Mary, I know you will be finding it hard to believe what Mark told you about me, and I will be glad if you didn’t take it the wrong way. I didn’t run away with any of Mike’s properties. The thing is that, I got to know Mark’s secret relating to the death of Mike.

 

Mike was poisoned and Mark was the one behind it. He killed him slowly with substance which was added to his tea every day. I believe Mark paid a maid to carry out that duty, which she solely did, without mistake.

 

The doctor who was in charge of Mike then was also paid to lie about his health. Mike didn’t die of any disease or the other; he was a strong man as I could vividly remember. Your current husband, who you are not legally married to, did all these for his own selfish desire. When I found out about it, I tried confronting him, but he was smart enough.

 

He had turned the mind of the body guards towards him, as they did all he asked them. He sent assassins to ki*ll me, but I got away narrowly, escaping to Paris where I decided to stay. Perhaps the men he sent where too scared to tell him of my escape, so they framed my death.

 

Right now, Mark doesn’t know that I am still on the face of the earth.” Brooklyn explained as they all listened attentively to him. No one said a word, as the only sound in the room was the voice of Mary, sobbing.

 

“Mary, we need you to stay calm, everything is gonna be ok. Mark will be captured. You and your children will be safe, since his clan has been discovered. Personally, I’m sorry for not taking note of these all this while.

 

I just want you to know that by law, you are still the widow of your late husband, since your marriage to, ark wasn’t done legally. You still have rights over your husband’s properties, and as stated in the will, it will be shared accordingly. Mr. Timberlake being alive is a miracle; perhaps fate wanted it this way. Your late husband’s lawyer also died mysteriously.

 

He was shot on his way back from work and no one knows the person who fired the shot, despite several investigations. But according to Timberlake, his brother had sent him a copy of the will when he noticed some advance on his life.

 

Timberlake here; was still in college as at then, but his brother made him vow to keep it safe, which he did, until Brooklyn got to him” Noah chipped in. Mary nodded, wiping out her tears

 

“When Mark is caught, he will be charge to court for the numbers of assault he had done to you all. He won’t be able to buy his way out this time; even the Germany police are also after him. And if he tired slipping from their hands to come hide in Cape Town, then he will be shocked to fall into ours.

 

We’ve gotten enough proof and witnesses to use against him. So that will be ok…” the Attorney was still speaking when Brittany rushed out from the living room down to the restroom. She shut the door behind her, as everyone watched in puzzle, not knowing what went wrong, and why she decided to run out that way.

 

“Brittany…are you ok down there” Aiden’s voice ringed out, but all they heard was a puking sound, and running water.

 

“I erm…will go check on her” Elsa stated, getting on her feet before anyone could stop her.

Mr. Jenkins’ phone rang out almost immediately, as a soft smile appeared on his face on seeing the caller.

 

“I‘m sorry I will like to take this call” he stood up to pick when Gina’s voice came up

“Eliot, are you there…your attention is needed at home, right now…some police men are here to take Sophia away” she stated, as he froze. He didn’t say a word for a while as different thought kept bubbling in his mind. What has she done this time, did she hurt someone else, or perhaps engage in a fight?

 

He went back in, clearing his thought to gain the attention of the others

“Erm…I’m really sorry, I need to go home now, something urgent came up and it’s really important that I am there” He said apologetically

 

“Oh..no no..we are done with the meeting already. Let’s leave the family to sort things out themselves, just be careful Mary, we are not done with the case yet, so you really need to stay calm, and don’t let any maid or guard know about our discussion here. We can’t trust anybody” Brooklyn stated as they the three men stood to their feet. Noah went into his car driving off at full speed while the duo took to their cars.

 

After they all left, Brittany came out looking dull with Elsa behind her. She sat on one of the couch as her brothers both watch her, expecting her to tell them why she ran off that way. She couldn’t look at her mother’s face because she knew she might have gotten a clue on the scene she displayed. Elsa simply shrug when their gaze met, giving her a slight nod. She was about saying something when Axel interrupted

 

“We have a lot to talk about as family, I think we have been separated for too long, and perhaps do things that we end up regretting. I still can’t believe I don’t have a dad, it kinda hurt. I wasn’t expecting this kind of news, but all the same, I just have to accept it. I’m really sorry Brittany for all that you had been passing through, gosh, this is dishearten. You too Elsa” he stated as she gave his a slight nod.

 

“Will you mind telling us how you survived alone for the past five years, where did you stay” Aiden asked, as they all diverted their attention to Brittany who breathed in quickly, before starting the story of her journey.

Jenkins’ Mansion

“You have to be quiet Miss, and follow us gently, or we will have no choice than to use force on you” The detective snarled at Sophia, who wasn’t ready to cooperate with him

“You can’t just wake up this beautiful morning, having no work to do, then come here to take me to that filthy police station. That’s odd”

 

“I don’t give a damn about what you think, I’m doing this, this way because I respect your father as my friend, but I won’t side with injustice. What you did Sophia, screams jail. And that’s where you are going to if the court shows you no mercy.” Henry snapped at her, as Gina and Ariel follow behind, while she was dragged out.

“Please be patient with her, her dad is almost here…” Gina stated but Sophia shut her up

 

“Don’t f**king open that dirty mouth of yours to beg them, do I look like a beggar to you. Just wait till my dad comes and see where you belong, bas***d” She yelled, cursing the detective, who felt like slapping her but took in the insult. Just then, Noah’s car zoomed in, as he steps out in a hurry

 

“Hey Henry…what’s going on here” Noah asked, looking at the two officers who held Sophia firmly. He returned his gave back to his friend.

 

“I’m sorry Noah, but I have to do what the law demands, I’m doing my job which I believe it’s right. You gave us this case to work on, but too bad, the culprit had been under your nose all this while, and that’s your daughter.” Henry stated

 

“What?” Noah whispered, but it was heard clearly. Henry nodded

“Yes Noah, Sophia is responsible for the kidnap of Ariel..”

“Harrghh” Ariel and Gina gasp at the same time, before he continued

 

“We caught the leader of the gang yesterday while he was attempting leaving the country with his girlfriend, who is also part of the gang. He confessed to us all that had been going on, and how Sophia had demanded for Ariel to be killed.”

 

He paused looking at Ariel who couldn’t control her emotions, as she tears started steaming in her eyes

 

“We have gotten lots of proof to use against her. We checked the phone call, messages, bank transactions and many others; everything pointed to her. And mind you, she isn’t ready to admit it, but she will when we go hard on her.”

 

Noah sighed on hearing all that Henry had said. He shook his head in shame, looking towards Sophia’s direction. If thoroughly she was the one behind all this, then he won’t be surprised. If she was capable of attempting to stab Ariel few days ago, then she will be capable of doing all that had been mentioned.

 

Now he understood why she was making secret call when she was under strict punishment. And why she begged him to let her go for a hangout, which wasn’t her initial destination.

 

“You can come with us to the station….”

 

“No…you are doing your job Henry, I don’t see any reason why I will come there to do anything. Just take her away, I’m fed up of the problems she had been giving me” Noah muttered as Sophia’s eyes popped out on hearing what he said

 

“What do you mean dad? They are taking me away, do something, I’m f**king innocent, you can’t believe them, will you”

 

“Shut the f**k up Sophia…”

 

“No I won’t, you have to stop them, or I will show them my craziness” She snarled, trying to yank her hand away from the grip of the officers holding her

 

“Fine go ahead and do it..perhaps when you finally meet you mum over there then she can teach you more craziness” He snapped a she became quiet, looking at him in a funny way

 

“What do you mean?” She gritted

 

“Noah, I thought you aint gonna talk about this” Henry chipped in, but Noah won’t hear of it. He walked closer to Sophia, looking through her eyes balls.

 

“I don’t give a damn about keeping it a secret anymore” he replied Henry, who touched his temple

“What is he talking about…what secret?” Sophia snapped

 

“I think this is the right time to tell you about this Sophia, because you might not get to see my face again.

 

“You mother is alive, but she is in jail” he uttered, as it felt like a bombshell to Sophia. Her legs wobbled, she tried keeping her stance leaning on the officer on her right.

 

“I tried to keep it away from you, yea, and I’m sorry for that. But I did it for your own good. You are the kind of child that loves getting what you want at all cost; I noticed it right from when you were little.

 

Because of that, I vowed not to let you see your mother; not because I want to hurt any of you, but because your mother is a b!tch and she will have nothing more to offer you than bad attitude. I know you Sophia, you will always wanna go check on her, and within those few minutes of visiting hour, you would have learnt things you should learn.

 

But I think I failed, yea, I failed you and myself.  You still couldn’t let go of that bad habit of yours, and that’s what is taken you to jail now. I don’t know where I had failed in taking care of you and teaching you morals.

 

But I know that I had done a lot of sacrifice, including no getting married to any other woman, just to have time for you. I did all this for you Sophia, but you turn my effort to the drainage, wasting it all. If I hadn’t gotten another daughter, then I would have been drowning in regret by now.

 

Anyways, thanks to the way fate does things. I pray you change from you bad habit before leaving jail, because I can’t give you false hope, because I ain’t gonna buy your way out. You are going to meet your mother, but if God helps you, I pray they don’t give you a long term.

 

You are still very young and pretty, I didn’t want this for you, but you choose this part yourself” he sniffed in, wiping off the tear coming down his cheek

 

“Take her away” He whispered, making his way out but stopped when Henry touched his shoulder, patting it a little before releasing him. He headed to his study immediately as Gina followed.

 

“I need to check up on him” She whispered to Ariel and left.

 

Ariel glanced up to look at Sophia who was sending daggers to her. Her eyes were already red as she tried keeping her tears in cheek. She glared hard at Ariel, who was forced to look away

 

The police men handcuff her as she spoke out in anger

“All this wouldn’t have happened if you hadn’t showed up. I would have been the one for Axel, and again the whole attention of father. But you came and ruined my life, you Whore!” She screamed

 

“Shut the f**k up” one of the officers shunned her but she didn’t stop

 

“I will come back for you Ariel, read my lips, I won’t rest until I make you pay, until I make you suffer….”

 

She yelled the last part as she was being forced into the van. Ariel wiped her tears, looking heartbroken as she made her way into her room. She still can’t believe Sophia is her sister; but why does she hate hr so much” She thought, lying on the bed, as she reminisces on her words.

 

“I will come back for you Ariel, read my lips, I won’t rest until I make you pay, until I make you suffer….”

 

“Will she really come back?” She asked herself

 NIGHT TIME

Brittany’s POV

 

“Where am I” I asked no one in particular, as I manage to force my eyes open. I felt like I was floating on the air, but I was not. The fog around here is thick enough to make one go blind, but I could still see through it. This place looks like an abandon site, a place where no one dwells. But why do I feel lost, have I missed my way. I thought, calling out for help, but my voice echoed back.

 

“Brittany” Another voice came up, as I turn back to have a look. Standing behind me was Brad, looking happy with the wide smile on his face. He walked towards me, as I threw my arms on him, hugging him to myself. I still can’t believe my eyes, how did he get here. He doesn’t seem hurt or in pain

 

“Brad..is this you…oh my god, please don’t leave me anymore. You have always promised to remain with me till the end, why didn’t you stick to that promise” I queried him as he caresses my hair.

 

“I’m sorry…I’m sorry for leaving half way. But don’t be deceived, my time here is limited. I only came to see how you are faring and to fulfill one more thing.” He stated, looking into my eyes, as I scoff, releasing his hands

 

“Don’t tell me you are leaving again..please let me go with you. I won’t go easy on you if you leave again without me” I snapped as he sighed

“Babe….that’s how fate wants it to be, we are meant to be together forever”

“So are you saying that we are met to part half way…huhn…then how do I want to continue living without you” I choked on my words, as tears already filled up my eyes.

 

“Someone else will come for you; someone who loves and has always loved you. Look at me Brittany; I want you to give him a chance, even if it isn’t considered an easy thing to do.”  He said, holding my chin closer. He took my hand, turning to another direction, where I could see another guy, but his face wasn’t turned towards our direction.

 

“Look closely, that is the right man for you” I squinted but couldn’t get the glimpse of his face, as I turned to look at Brad who was about leaving my hand.

“Brad…” I called with an arched heart. He smiled

 

“Remember me with what you have with you…goodbye sweetheart” he muttered and went with the air in a swift moment. I couldn’t feel my voice at first when it happened, and when I could, he went off into the quiet environment, echoing at every corner

 

“Brad!!!! Brad…please come back”

 

“Brad” I gasp, getting off my bed, with a loud and heavy breathing. Lo and behold, it was only a dream. But what does he mean by all he said. I thought remembering the details in full.

 

“I think you need no soothsayer to tell you what he meant” My subconscious mind stated as I heave a sigh

“Erm…Brittany, I love you so much…I have been feeling this way towards you right from when you were fourteen…oh gosh, that one is too much, let me refrain my words” Theo muttered to himself, as he stood outside Brittany’s room. After she came in that day, disrupting their toast, he couldn’t believe his eyes. It felt like a dream come through to him.

 

He couldn’t take any chances to lose this opportunity this time. He knew he seem to be rushing things, but damn, he had waited for good five years. What if someone else gets her before him?

 

He had managed to convince her to go on a date with him about some days after, which she agreed to. His joy knew no bound when she agreed as he kept grinning from ear to ear, getting mocked by his friends for being too joyous, when she hasn’t given any reply, and whereas, he hasn’t even approach her.

 

Today being the D-day is making him a bit nervous. He knocked on her door, as she muttered a ‘come in’

He stepped in, closing the door gently, as she walks towards him. His heart almost leaped out of his mouth, seeing how beautiful she looked in her short red flair gown; embroider with colorful thread and white sequence.

 

They had been good friends when they were still all teens, but right now, she looks lady-like, not the little Brittany he knows. The date was supposed to be a friendship vote, but he has his own motive

 

He stretches forth his hand like a gentleman, giving her the flower he got for her as she received it with a smile.

“Hmm, it smells nice, thanks”

“Ok..so are you set?” He asked

 

“Yea…but..I think I will like to say something first” She muttered as his heartbeat increased

“Erm…I don’t know how to put it, I know that I should have waited till the end of this date before saying this out. But I don’t want you to have false hope.

 

Look at me Theo, I need no soothsayer to tell me that you love me, and I know you do, even right from when I was still here five years back. And I like you too as at then, but I got to love someone else when I left; too bad, you didn’t approach me as at then, or let’s say perhaps we were still little.

 

“Right now, I can’t tell what I fell for anybody, because I am still trying to let o of the love I have for my late boyfriend, so as to make way for another, because that’s what he wants. But the truth will still remain the truth, I can’t keep this away from you or anyone even if I which to.

 

It is better you know it now before the date, so as not to make a wrong decision” She stated looking intently at him with a sad look. He doesn’t know what to feel, but he believed that what was about coming out of her mouth won’t be something he can take in.

 

He cleared his throat, prepared for what her mouth is about bringing forth
