Amara couldn’t stop praising Anna’s meal. They had just finished dinner and were sitting on the porch.

Anna was asking Amara some questions about herself and was interrupted by an incoming call.

Anna smiled and excused herself.

“ Did my mom just blush?”

Amara laughed and nodded…

Sola wanted to go eavesdrop but was stopped by Amara.

He wanted to confirm if it was who he thought it was.

She was laughing at his curiosity.

“ You know, it’s only women, I know, that can be this curious.”

They were talking and Sola told her he had gone to her aunt’s store but she wasn’t there.

He wasn’t expecting her at his place.

“Oh, your mother insisted.”

Amara told him how glad Anna was when she accepted the invitation..

“It’s been so long I tasted a mother’s cooking” she smiled . “ All I do is get take outs when I don’t have the strength to cook.”

Dora doesn’t cook.

Speaking of take out.

Sola told her he went to the restaurant they last saw each other.

“ You know I owe you, right?”

“You paid for my meal that day” he simply said, seeing the confusion in her face.

“Probably take you out for dinner, you don’t know what you did for me that day.”

Amara sighed silently.

What dinner again?

She had been trying to get rid of any kind of feeling she had for him, yet he  always made it hard for her.

She recalled the night of his mother’s birthday when she got home. She smiled remembering how they talked but her mood changed recalling the moment he introduced his girlfriend.

She cried that night. Heartbroken.

Now he wanted to take her out. His kind gestures, was really not helping matters.

She had to stay away from him…accepting the invitation to dinner was a mistake.

What was she thinking?

Amara declined surprising him.

He insisted but she didn’t bulge.

Sola noticed her mood changes and asked if everything was ok.

“ I have to go.” was all she said while  standing.

He offered to drive her home but she refused ordering herself a ride.

Sola called his mother to announce her departure.

“Do spend the night, it’s really late.”

“I already ordered a ride, ma.”

Anna saw that nothing made her change her mind, so she backed down.

She bided the young lady goodnight before going inside.

Sola looked at her with a worried face.

“ Are you sure you’re okay?”

Sola reached out to touch her but she flinched away from his hand.

He felt…hurt.

What was going on?

“Yeah, I’m fine.”

She left him on the porch and walked outside the gate to wait for her ride.

Amara stood there feeling stupid.

She didn’t want to be responsible for ruining anyone’s relationship.

Dinner indeed.

Her ride arrived and she got in, just in time for Sola to step out.

“Amara”

The car was already zooming off yet he was certain she heard his call.

She didn’t know if he was messing with her but she wasn’t going to allow any man make her feel like this.

Not again.
