(Victims)

He didn’t know what to feel this time, he frown and gave her a squinting look. He glanced back at the ring and look at her again.

With the expression on her face, he knew she could see the glow on his finger, but didn’t react to it.

She, on the other hand had this confuse feelings; she doesn’t know why she came to the forest after she sighted him leaving with the young girl in his arms.

She was done serving the guest when the raiding started, the vampires busted into the club house feasting on anyone they came across. She was fast to get into an invisible form using magic.

She could remember one of the vampires showing him to the others as they began the chase. She had followed him from behind in an invisible form, watching as he took the girl up to the tree.

She had been there all along; and before she revealed herself to that blood sucking vampire, she had changed from Lottie’s face to her real face.

D’Arcy on the other hand was beginning to feel that the ring was playing a prank on him. He could clearly remember the face he saw at the club, it wasn’t this woman in front of him. Does he have two mothers, or what is wrong? He asked no one.

He directed his gaze towards where Emerald lay, noticing a shield covering her. He knew it was the work of this woman, and with the look of things, he could smell her. She isn’t human, she is a witch.

“Thanks….for your help” He simply muttered, not knowing what to say. He doesn’t know if she even recognized him.

He can’t just call her mum when he isn’t sure yet, especially with the different faces. Drusilla nodded with a smile

“You are welcome dear”

“You followed me from the club?” He asked, walking towards Emerald. She followed from behind

“Yes…I had to leave after the vampires started raiding it” She chuckled. He paused, turning to stare at her

“You were the lady that served us or not?”
She nodded

“Erm…this is my real face, that one was just a façade..” She chuckled nervously. She doesn’t know why she is even replying him. She only came here to help since she couldn’t stop her legs from dragging her down here.

But the way his eyes were peering into hers is making her heart ache. He looked at her like she had offended him in a way she doesn’t know about.

She hasn’t met this young lad before, so why does she feel like she had hurt him so bad. And his look reminds her of Orpheus, what’s going on? She thought, but couldn’t get a reply

D’Arcy nodded, his question has been answered. He went towards Emerald, but couldn’t get pass the shield.

“Oh…let me help with that” Drusilla stated, and undid the spell. D’Arcy picked up Emerald in his arms. He feels so calm now, the blood moon is over, it’s been more than hours now.

He looked up into the sky to see the red moon clearing up, the more it did, the more he change back to his normal self. His fangs and claws had retracted.

He could feel her temperature in his arms; she is now very cold which is bad for a human body. She will need to be heated up.

“She is cold right?”

He nodded

“So where are you taking her to, she needs a warm environment, and we are really far away from the
town. It’s gonna be more of a day journey for a human..”

“But will take just two hours for a vampire..” he resorted
She nodded

“But you look really weak, you have fought a lot, you need time to heal up and get your strength back.” She paused; looking at him as he continued to stare into Emerald’s paled face

“Your sister?”

“No……” he hesitated before completing his speech
“My mate”

“Oh…she is pretty…I can take you back to the town, you don’t need to run up there, we could just teleport. But there is actually a cottage close by, I saw it while coming here, I don’t know who lives in it though”

D’Arcy scoffed. He had also seen it, but didn’t have enough time to think about why a cottage will be built in the middle of a forest

“A normal human can’t live in such a forbidden forest…it might be just an abandoned house”

“It might be for some hunters, but we can go there, because of your mate. Remember she is human, and wasting much time in this cold won’t do her any good” She stated. He nodded, gulping in

He thought about her offer. His secret has been exposed already, if he takes her back home, will she allow him to see her again? Will she detest him for lying to her? He thought

Well the cottage might just be a better place to stay and explain things to her before taking her back to her house; he won’t want to risk not seeing her anymore.

“Fine…let’s go to the cottage instead…” he muttered. Drusilla smile and waved her two index fingers into the air, creating a portal which showed the cottage. She entered into it and waited for him to do so; he hesitated, looking intently at her.

“Why are you helping me, witches and vampires ain’t friends..why are you so kind?” he asked her. She heaved a sigh and shrugged

“I also don’t know..but sometimes one shouldn’t look at the rift made by our ancestors, we could make a change in our time.” She replied with a smiled, signaling him to enter the portal. He eventually did as it closed up.
~~
They entered the cottage and met it a little shabby. It wasn’t really unkempt; more like someone was there a while ago, due to the little smoke still coming out from the fire place.

“I believe someone is in” Drusilla muttered, as D’Arcy went towards a small bed close to the fireplace where he dropped Emerald.

“Why do you think so?”

“The house is clean, and there is smoke in the fire place…let me check around to see if anyone is in” She replied, going into the other room. The cottage was built on a very small piece of land with a large oak tree behind it.

She pushed the other door open, it led to the backyard, meaning there wasn’t any other room, except the one they are in.

“Ohh…so small” Drusilla chuckled, going further outside. She peered into the night, sniffing the air to catch the scent of any being, but didn’t get any. She went back into the room, and saw D’Arcy struggling with the lighter.

“Shift backward” She said to him, which he oblique to. She muttered a spell and fire appeared in the fire place. She smiled brightly looking at it. He shrugged

“That’s…cool…”
“You don’t have magic?” She asked
“I’m a vampire…not a witch”

“But some vampires have magic…they make spells too”

“I didn’t learn magic…I wasn’t opportune…always hidden..” he whispered the last sentence, but she heard him; though she doesn’t know what he meant.

“During my time, I know of some vampires that learnt magic…they attend magic classes”
He squinted, folding his arms as he lean on a rocking chair

“You once lived among vampires?” he asked
She nodded

“Yes….but I don’t want to talk about it”

She looked at the ring on his finger which hasn’t stop shinning, he followed her gaze
“That’s a magical ring.” She muttered

“Yea…my dad gave it to me” he replied

“It’s beautiful….i haven’t made one in a long time” She chuckled, and just immediately the glow became to wane until it went off. This increased the tension in the room, why will it go off after her last statement.

She was beginning to imagine things she shouldn’t think about. In order to ease the tension, she went and sat beside Emerald on the bed, caressing the young lass’ hair

The fire was already hitting the room, making it warm. She placed her two hands on her Emerald’s chest

“I will make her warm in a matter of minute” She stated, muttering some spells, as she commanded heat from the fire into her body. Her skin started changing from being pale as her colour returned.

D’Arcy watched her keenly as she performed her magic. He had a lot going on in his mind. He just doesn’t have the courage to ask her if she recognize him as her son.

Or what else is this ring all about if not to track his mum. He didn’t have enough time to ask his dad, because he gave up his ghost.

He sighed and ruffled his hair, slumping on the rocking chair.

“If she is my mum, then why is she pretending not to know me?” he looked at her as she attended to Emerald. She flipped her hair behind unaware, revealing a mark on the nape of her neck. It looks like a mated vampire mark. He stared at Emerald again

“What will she think of me when she wakes up; she doesn’t even know my real name?”
All this thoughts kept coming without answers; he slept off without knowing.

Rose’s POV
My mind kept going to Daniel’s words yesterday during our dinner date. I don’t know why I feel like calling him to tell him that I’m interested. I mean, Daniel is a cool guy, well ever since I have known him.

But I don’t know how Emerald will feel knowing that I’m dating her brother. I think I have to let her know. I picked up my phone to call her again, but it wasn’t reachable.

Perhaps I will just go to her house, gosh, I don’t think I will be able to face Daniel. Well, I will just call her later. I thought and hurried into the bathroom, to freshen up.

Afterward I went down for breakfast but met my aunt in the living room watching the TV. She seems keen on what she was watching that she didn’t hear my greetings.

I was forced to look at it; it was the usual morning news but the headline caught me off balance. Vampires raided most popular club house in town? How? Wait a sec, that was the club house Gary used for his birthday, and Emerald went for the party…oh my gawd” I gasp going closer, this time my aunt notice me

“Good morning aunt…”

“Morning baby…how was your night” She asked, but I was too stunned to reply. My mouth fell agape on seeing some dead bodies brought out of the club house. I tried to focus on what the reporter was saying as they capture the scene

“It was reported last night that a group of vampires raided this club house while the birthday party of Prince Gary Jordan was going on.

According to eye witnesses and the survivors, the vampires were five in numbers. They came in when no one was expecting and started feasting on anyone they laid their hands on.

Some guests were killed on the spot while leaving the others brutally injured, including Prince Gary Jordan, who was found in a room unconscious. He is currently in coma as said by the medics, as treatment will begin immediately.

A total number of 500 people attended the club party, mostly teenagers and few adults. The death toll is about 50 while the others severely injured, leaving 15 people untouched; and these peopled were said to be in the inner rooms of the club, which made them hidden.

The dead bodies have been moved to the city’s morgue while the injured once had been taken to the general hospital. Family members of the victims are advised to come and check out the morgue or hospital if they find any of their kids missing.

This is the news at 7, and I am John wood, reporting live from London”

I could feel my legs giving way as I slump to the ground.

“Oh no….Emerald….Dave…they were both at the party…oh my gawd” I exclaimed as my aunt was forced to look at me.

“Thank goodness you arrived early yesterday; I don’t know what would have happened to you” My aunt muttered as I began to sob. It’s true, what if I had gone to the party, I might have been dead or probably injured.

Most of my classmate were there, does that mean some of them are dead now…oh no..Emerald mustn’t be among them. I stood up and cleaned my tears

“I need to go check on Emerald” I stated

“No Rose…I won’t allow you go out there alone…what if the vampires are still lurking around, it’s no more safe, I couldn’t even go to work”

“Emerald was at the party…she is my friend Aunt…I don’t know if any of her family members have heard of this. Her parent are not in town…though I was with her brother yesterday…but…please aunt…please…she is my only friend”

“I know Rose..i know…but I’m scared….i don’t want you to be hurt”
I sniffed in again, allowing the tears to fall freely

“I would be fine, trust me…I would just get to her house and…tell her brother about it. We might go to the hospital together if she isn’t back yet

“Why don’t you just call her brother…” She muttered. Truly, I haven’t thought about that
I brought out my phone from my pocket and dialed his number several times, but he isn’t picking

“He isn’t not picking…I promise to be fine aunt…”

“Ok…ok..fine…you won’t go alone…we are going with two gaurds…I am coming with you”
“Really”

“Yes….just let me go change my dress”
“Thank you aunt…thank you
~~~~~
We got to Emeralds house and met Daniel about entering his car. He looked up when he saw us coming in. I could see worry in his eyes, more like he haven’t had a good sleep.
“Rose…” he muttered, as I went forward to hug him. I don’t know why I did it though, but I know he really needn’t it now.
“She is not back yet…and I watched the news…Dave isn’t home too..gosh I’m surely gonna be dead if anything happen to her” he rushed his words, sobbing
I patted his back softly, comforting him, as my aunt watched from behind
“She is going to be fine…don’t lose hope..okay” I whispered. He nodded and sniffed in
“I was about going to the hospital to check out for her before you came”
“Let’s go together” I squeezed his hand. He noticed my aunt this time and greeted her
“Hi aunt Pat…” He mumbled
“Hi Daniel…don’t lose hope okay…we are going to see her hale and healthy…” She muttered with a soft smile.
“Thank you ma’am…let’s go
~~~~~
We checked the whole wards in the hospital searching for either Emerald or Dave, but we couldn’t see anyone that looks like them. It was really frustrating. We went back to the lobby after a two hours futile search.

Even the nurses around took us to the ward where they kept the teenagers, I got to see some of my classmate looking like half dead people. I couldn’t hold back the tears in my eyes, but I was hoping to see a glimpse of Emerald, but she wasn’t there.

“I’m sorry ma’am, but these are all the injured victims, if you can’t find her here, then I will advice you check for her body at the morgue” A nurse had said, when my aunt asked if these were all the victims.

Daniel looked far away from this world as he sat on the bench, palming his face with his two hands.

“I’m done for…where the hell is my sister…what will I tell my parent…oh no” he began to cry

“Please don’t cry Daniel…you are making me want to cry too…please don’t” I croaked, trying to cheek my tears in, but it came out without my wish.

Daniel kept on crying, not minding the fact that they were a lot of people around.
“We were asked to check the morgue…”

“No..no…my sister cannot be dead…I won’t go there…she isn’t dead right…she isn’t …d-ea-d..” he shuttered, shivering. I also don’t know what to reply, I heart ache seeing him this way.

He loves his sister so much, just as I love her as my best friend. I don’t want to imagine meeting her corpse..but we have no choice.

“We have no choice Daniel…please we need to check it out before the government discard their bodies…please” I sob. He kept shaking his head, not ready to go.

I hugged him tightly as we cried on each other’s shoulder. I opened my eyes in time to see someone like
Audrey, being wheeled out of the ward, in a wheel chair.

As a woman, shedding tears came to take over from the nurse who wheeled her out. She had tears in her eyes as she hugged Audrey. I broke the hug with Daniel, cleaning my tears…

“Audrey…Audrey..” I called, as she glanced at my direction, looking at me with a distance but guilty eyes.
