NOT ANOTHER LOVE STORY

Episode – 32

There was still a good sum of money that I wanted in cash since I was avoiding been in public, Lucas had agreed to help out.

Mwape and I relaxed as we waited for Lucas to show up. The good thing about the car was that it had tinted glass. That helped from having random people sporting me.

It was going to be a long drive for me and relaxing my mind seemed like the best thing to do. But that didn’t happen at all, my mind took me back to the last few hours I spent at my house.

I wrote a letter to Dad and Ivy respectively explaining the step I had decided to take and my thoughts regarding the inheritance. When I was done, I placed it on the coffee table.
My other plan was to schedule a message that would send itself on Saturday morning explaining that I wasn’t showing up for the wedding, everything that they wanted was written in the letters that I had left home. Once I was done with that, I left the phone on the table and locked up.
I had already sold the house, the young couple that bought it were okay with hiring the gateman and maid.

“What’s on your mind?” Mwape asked me.
“Oh, it’s nothing important. Just trying to imagine my father’s reaction when he reads the letter.” I told her.
“I’ve never met your dad. However, from the way you talk about him _ he beats me as the type of person who is intimidating and scary.” She laughed.
“He’s more than that,” I commented.
“Do you think he will let all this fade away once he finds out that you have run away?”
“To be honest, he will hunt me down.” I sighed.
“Guess we screwed,” Mwape said. The little glow that she had _ had now completely faded away.

Just when the awkwardness was building, Lucas knocked on the window.

“What took you so long?” I exclaimed.
“Are you seriously asking me that? It’s just a matter of hours before the whole country finds out that you’ve disappeared and who do you think they will trace first?” He frowned.
“I had to find some street kid and negotiate with him to do the transaction on my behalf.” He added.
“Hey, Mwape…” Lucas waved at her.
“Hi, Lucas.” She waved back.

We didn’t waste much time, once he handed over the money _ we dropped him off and hit the road. The plan was to spend the night in Kafue, that’s if we would reach there in good time.

“What is this nonsense am hearing about Allan?” His dad asked.
“I-I wanted you to arrive so that we could go together,” I told him.
“Why did you wait until evening to tell me? This boy will ki*ll me.” He said as he got into the car.
“I didn’t want to overthink. I called the maid to do something for me, that’s when she told me that she wasn’t working. Stating that she found the house locked. I’ve been trying to call him but his phone has just been ringing.” I told him.

It didn’t take a lot of effort to stare up drama, all that mum had to do was make a remark in front of Allan’s father about him not answering his phone since morning and just like that the plan had fallen into a pleasant place.

When we arrived at the house, the gateman was present. He gave us the keys and like a bunch of treasure hunters we matched into the house. Allan’s father was already on the ninth cloud of being pissed while I majestically followed behind him as if I didn’t know what was going on.

It was just a matter of minutes and I would be sobbing on the floor because my dear man had run away with another woman.

“This boy will make me look like a fool in front of people. Why is he so selfish…” Allan’s dad nagged.

Mum didn’t want to miss all the action, she was right behind us as walked around the kitchen looking for the phone that kept ringing.

“I’ve got it. It’s on the coffee table.” I called out to everyone.
“What is this… I hope he hasn’t committed suicide. Check the house, all the rooms.

I logged in on Facebook expecting photos from
Ivy’s bachelorette party but that wasn’t the case. They had not posted anything the whole day and that wasn’t like her. I wasn’t an Instagram person but I snooped around her profile trying to see if there was something I forgot.

“What’s with that look?” Mwape asked me.
“Oh, I don’t know why but for some reason I was expecting to see happy photos of Ivy celebrating,” I said.
“And?”
“Well, her last seen was yesterday,” I said thoughtfully.
“I think you should have said a proper goodbye to her. Now, she will be a laughing stoke.” Mwape told me.
“Are you feeling sorry for her?” I questioned her.
“Yes! No woman deserves what you have done.” She said in a low calm voice.
“Madam, are you backing out?” I asked her. I expected an answer from her but nope! She just looked at me without saying a word.

Guilt has a way of finding itself close to the heart and that is what happened.

“Look, I know I was wrong but that’s the only way I could have done this and you know that. I don’t see any other way.” I said.
“Let me rest a bit.” She said.
