NOT ANOTHER LOVE STORY

Episode – 37

#ALLAN
If someone asked me where I saw myself in the coming days, jail wouldn’t be part of the answer. Indeed it’s true, ‘Man will make plans but God can have his will done’. I couldn’t even look at Ivy, the amount of shame that rained on me kept reminding me how stupid I was.

“Are you okay?” Ivy’s mum asked me.
“Am fine mum,” I said in what sounded like a whisper.

Despite what was happening, she was behaving like everything was okay… ‘I just ran away from your daughter!’ my mind screamed.
I went ahead to get into Lucas’s car, the others remained outside chatting.

“You good?” Lucas asked as he joined me.
“I don’t know. The thought of facing Dad… That’s disturbing.” I told him.
“Are you sure about what you said back there, getting married to Ivy?” He asked me.
I sighed heavily, “I don’t know.”
“Don’t worry. We will go to my place. You can have a shower, eat something and rest.” He said as he tapped my shoulder.

“I was hoping to see the little girl you are willing to through your life away for,” Mum said.
“You will be happy to hear that she has left me.”
“Happy! Why would that make me happy? Listen, I know we don’t always agree on things _ I won’t say I approve of the decision you made either. Nonetheless, I always try to understand you and what goes on in that head of yours.” She said.
“It’s not like that…” I objected.
“Am not done talking!” She commanded. “Your father might have let you off after you said you going to marry Ivy. My question to you is this… What does Ivy say about all of this?” Mum asked me.

She was right, I was so focused on myself and didn’t take Ivy’s decision into consideration. Her father; “All damn!”

“What’s wrong?” Lucas asked.
“Everything is wrong,” I responded.

“Do you plan on being silent the whole day?” Mum asked me.
“I know this isn’t what you wanted, we forced you into all this and we are sorry.” She added.
“Sorry doesn’t cut it, mum. Even if you say that we both know dad has no regrets at all. All I want right now is to leave all this behind me.” I told her.
“What about the wedding?” She asked.
“What wedding? You don’t expect me to get married to a man who ran away, do you?” I sighed.

I couldn’t believe it. These two families were twisted… Even after all that, they still wanted to go ahead and continue with the wedding.

“Am not going to get married to Allan,” I told her.
“But baby…”
“But nothing mum. Am going to pack my bags and am leaving. Whatever drama you guys have to cool down, do that. However, am not going to be a part of this scheme of yours.” I told her.
“You need to watch your mouth young lady…”
“Or what mum!? You are going to cut me off on the will? Honestly, I don’t care anymore.” I got my headset and boomed the volume on my phone.

We arrived at the house and Allan’s father had already arrived. The environment didn’t look friendly at all.
Soon after, Allan’s mother arrived. She was alone.

“Where is that boy?” His father called out angrily.
“Please lower your voice.”
“I lower my voice? That boy has made me a laughing stock in this town. How do I face the president after such an embarrassing thing… I need to teach him a lesson.” He said.
“There is no need to do that. He is your son, children will always be children.” My father told him.
“No Katongo. Am not going to tolerate this humiliation that he has brought. I gave him everything he wanted and how does he repay me? Running away with some common girl from the ghetto.” Allan’s father said.

“Dad,” I called out to him.
“How are you feeling Ivy, are you okay?” He asked. Acting all concerned.
“Am not okay. I’ve never been okay ever since I came back here.” I told him.
“Come on, this isn’t the right time to start talking about such things.”
“That’s the thing Dad, it’s never the right time when I want to talk to you. Unless it’s about you and your company!” I shouted.
“Baby, please don’t make a scene here,” Mum said as she held my hand. Pulling me away from dad.
“What do you think you are doing, talking to your father like that?”
“I want to leave. Am going to pack.” I told her as I walked out.

I couldn’t believe I was being comforted by my sister. She was the last person I would have thought of. She warned water for me to bathe and once I was done, I found mum had returned from the market.

“I’ve you heard about this boy who ran away on the day of his wedding with another girl?” Mum asked Chipo.
“Yes, I have. It’s everywhere on Facebook.” She responded.
“Good morning mum…” I greeted her as I joined them.
“Your eyes are red. Is everything okay?” Mum asked me.
“Oh! It’s nothing. Must have been the soap that entered my eye earlier.” I told her.
“Okay. Emily called that you were with Limpo, How is she?”
“She’s ok.’ I smiled.
“Okay. Such a lovely girl she is. You should invite her over again.” Mum suggested.
“I will. There is something I want to tell you, mum.”
“Oh, mum we go in private?” Mum asked.
“No, there won’t be any need of that. Chipo can stay.” I told her.
