Episode 12

ELIZA POV

Waking up the next morning I turn to the other side only to see the bed empty, Maria left already, perhaps she woke up very early, or did she leave me here all alone last night?  No I’m not sure, I still felt her presence last night.

Getting up, I went straight to the bathroom, took my bath and dressed up for the day’s activity. Well I believe Mrs. Smith may call us today, because since we came to the city; she hasn’t said anything about what we are here to do.

Perhaps today will be our lucky day, I pray It’s a good job. I felt a bit free after last night prayer, although I’m still scared remembering the figure I saw. Perhaps my eyes was just deceiving me, I will try my best to bury my fears” I said taking a look at myself through the mirror

“Fine, everything is checked, I need to go see Maria now, and scold her for leaving me before Dawn” I thought heading to the door, only to open the door and meet Ella, Mrs. Smith maid.

What does she want this morning” I thought

“Hi good morning, I was about knocking when you opened the door, how was your night, are you ok now, you were behaving strangely last night” Ella said

“Oh morning, my night was ok anyway, it was just a nightmare, that’s all, so why are you here” I said trying to prevent further questions

“Oh, madam ask me to call you”

“Ok, let me Inform Maria….”

“No, she’s there already, I was asked to call her first, I only wanted you to rest for some time’s she said interrupting me

“Ok then, is she in the living room?” I asked

“No, but I will show you where she is”

“Ok lead the way” I said following her through the hallway, only for her to stop abruptly and faced me

“What is wrong, why ain’t we moving” I asked

“There is something I want to tell you”

“Ok, but that will be later, let me see the madam first then we can talk about any…..”

“Noo, now is the right time, you don’t know what you will meet over there, wait a minute do you even have the knowledge of what you about walking into” she said sounding serious

What does this maid want from me for God sake, I thought, anyway she seem serious with what she want to say, let me listen to her

“Ok fine, what is it”

“Hmmm, I guess I talk too much, you said later, we will talk later then” she said seeming sad and angry at the same time, I guess have wronged her, and she might have something important to say, I did not hesitate but to run to meet up with her

“Hey, I’m sorry, please what do you have to say? I’m really sorry” I pleaded

“Hmm, fine” she said, it seems my pleadings really got to her

“Well pretty face, you are about to become a prostitute” she dropped the bomb shell

“Wait a minute I don’t get you, what do you mean” I asked with grimace

“That’s the job many girls do here, and you will not exempted”

“Oh my God, so what Maria said was true” I said remembering her words from last night

“Beg your pardon, what did Maria say” she furrowed her brows

“No I’m not talking to you, I’m just confused, but she told us that we will come here to learn a trade”

” Hahaaahaa, I laugh in Latin, she only deceived you all, wait a minute did she give mum any money”

“Yes I guess, but my mum said she was just being generous by giving her such a huge amount”

“Did she sign any papers”

“I don’t know about that one, my mum did not mention any about signing…..”

” Look girl, you are bought already, there is no way you can escape it, if your mum signed the papers of ownership, then you no longer belong to your mum but to madam”

“No ,that’s not true”

“Do I look like I’m joking, I have seen many girls that she brought here under my care becoming worst prostitute who smokes and can dance naked even in front of men”

“So you mean that’s the path we will also follow” I said already regretting my coming bro the city

“Yes but if you are smart you can get a rich man to buy you from her, and that’s if he likes you and is ready to make you one of his wives”

“But that’s not possible, I’m only sixteen, I can’t get married now”

“Huh, you are not in your village, you better shine your eye, if you really want to survive, some girl were force to go into it and ended up dead due to disobedience to madam”

“But if she is this deadly, why are you still working for her”

” God’s favor is just on me, well I’m telling you all this because I like you and your friend, just be wise and do whatsoever she tells you, remember you can’t run away, you are stuck”

” Even oga does not know anything about madam business, it is because of him that I’m still here, I pray he comes back one day and find catch madam red handed, if he comes now, then you might be free.

Just continue to pray to your God and remember to pray for me also” she said ending the discussion, because we were already close to where they are.

Sighting Maria inside the room with another lady, I knew all is not well, how I wish I could change the hands of time, Mrs. Smith is even smoking, Oh God, what have  I put myself into, will I be able to survive this, will I be able to obey whatsoever she tells me, I don’t think so, Maria is the good girl here, but I will have to be bad in order to save my virginity, even if it involves murder” I thought, entering into the room only to be welcomed by the intoxicating odour of the cigarette and her annoying voice

“Welcome Eliza, how was your night” she smirk, puffing out a handful of smoke

MARIA’S POV

It kind of baffled me as at how I slept off last night. The strange event that happened kinda baffled me and kept me thinking until I slept off.

I woke up very early being unable to sleep well though, seeing Eliza still sleeping soundly, I decided not to wake her up, instead I left the bed for her to enjoy her sleep and headed to my room.

Getting into my room, I went into the bathroom to bath, and refresh before going downstairs for breakfast.

Strolling down the stairs, I heard voices, one is that of Mrs. smith and the other seems like a stranger.

They didn’t notice me so I hid myself just to hear their conversation, although I hate intruding into anybody’s talk, but I just have this feeling to eavesdrop on their conversation.

“Welcome Linda, how is the agency”

“oh its going well, in fact some girls were brought to the club house to resume work immediately, they are through with their training, so…..you know what’s next, haaahaaah” the so called Linda said laughing hilariously

“Yea you are right” Mrs. Smith said taking a sip from her drink “ so about what I told you about, the girls are here already, I choose you for this job being the best trainer from the club house, so I want you to train this girls to the fullest, okay”

“Yes mama D, you know, I’m always the best” she said

“Ok, you will start with them today and I will transfer a sum of 500 thoughusand naira into your account after the training, which will last for just one month, I’m sure that after one month they won’t be a novice”

“Trust me, even 2 weeks, is enough for them to become pro” she said smirking

“Ok if you say so, let’s go down to the secret room, so that we can start” “Ella!!! Ella!!”

“I’m coming Madam” Ella said running out from the kitchen to meet her

“What about the girls, are they awake yet”

“I’m not sure madam, I will check on them” Ella said heading towards the stairs but stopped immediately she was called

“Wait, call the innocent one first, you know who I’m talking about, bring her to the secret room. And as for the other one that was behaving strangely last night, leave her for some time, when I’m ready for her then you will call her, okay” she said standing to her feet, including Linda

“Ok ma, I will call her immediately” Ella said, heading towards the stairs

I quickly run back into my room in order to avoid her seeing me, I can’t believe all I had, I’m having a feeling that my coming here is a bad luck, oh God what will I do, how will I………..

“Maria!!!! Maria!!!” Ella called knocking on my door

Oh my God can’t believe I locked the door after coming in, I went immediately to open the door

“Maria hope all is well, why is your face like this, are you okay” she asked, although she also does not seem her happy self

“I don’t know, I’m just worried about my friend and, a….nd mmm…..” I stammered, not knowing what to say

“It’s okay dear, anyway I’m here to call you, Madam wants to see you” she said

“Hope all is ……mmmmm…. hope no problem” I asked still stammering, I wonder how I become a stammer

“Hmmmm, just obey her if you want to live long in the city, time is running out, please come with me” she said turning to leave, I already understand what she was trying to say

“Why are you still waiting there, come let’s go” she beckoned
