They walked out and escorted him to the car, as Bwalya left, Samuel and Max went on to take a walk so that they could buy some vegetables at the market.

“How is Maluba?” Samuel asked.

“Shes doing great. I didn’t get the chance to tell her I was going out for the week.” Max said sadly.

“Why the sad face?” He asked.

“The last time she had to find out that I was President of the debate club from someone else she almost set me on fire.” Max giggled.

“I would doubt it if she burned you up, she has that energy that just drives me nuts. Such a lady.” Samuel said passionately.

“At least she hasn’t complained about Mr. Matumbo of late.”

“That man, he just wants to stick his stick in every fruit he sees. I think he had issues as a kid.” Samuel said jokingly as they both laughed.

“I think you should make your intentions known to Maluba.” Max said.

“But she already knows…” Samuel objected.

“Its not about her knowing, it’s about you saying it to her face and hearing what she would say.” Max said as they now reached the market.

It wasn’t that far, about 5 minutes walk from Samuels place.

“Cooking might be the only reason that will force me to marry faster.” Max said. Since it was fast approaching evening, the marketeers had moved from the main selling block and were now outside in lines with their produce beautifully arranged for sell.

“What are we getting?” Samuel asked Max.

“Boi (friend) I eat almost every vegetable except Lumanda, it tastes like poison.” Max responded as they stood at a distance making their decision.

“How did you know how poison tastes like if I may ask?” Samuel laughed.

From a far distance, Doris and her friends were also buying vegetables and were yet to cross paths with Max and Samuel.

‘Cant a man just enjoy a drink in peace. Busy acting like am an alcoholic. Shame on him.’ Bwalya said with his foot on the peddle.

His friends from work were waiting on him, since it was a Saturday, there was a brai, lots of alcohol and not forgetting the ladies. After all, Bwalya already had his eye on one of the girls that worked at a certain pub at the Square. If there was a day for him to be lucky, this was it.

Peter on the other side was busy trying to call them, at this time, Max at left his phone at home and Bwalya hadn’t switched his on yet. He got the phone and thought of switching it on, but this meant Max was going to be calling time and again to make sure he was home.

He looked at the phone closely and could perfectly see his own reflection, this made him smile.

It was now or never, to spice up the moment, he wasn’t even worki6 the following day. In his mind, he still had a lot of time – by the time Eunice would would be in chililabombwe he would be awake and nursing his hang over.

Before Chongolo cut the call, she asked where the spare key was so that she could open the room for Eunice. Keeping her in a place she didn’t feel comfortable with could only raise a lot of questions.

“Sorry about that. Was talking to my husband.” Chongolo said in an apologetic manner.

“Come on,you don’t need to apologize. Has he told you…” Before she could complete her sentence, Chongolo had gotten the keys from a small box that was on the TV stand and was busy waving them at her.

“That’s much like it, I also began to doze.” She said with a smile as she got up.

Together they went to the boys room. Sound could be heard from the TV room, despite that it was dark.

“You left the TV on?” She asked.

“Not at all, am sure the girls are watching.” Chongolo said as they stood in front of the guys room.

“I thought nobody else stayed here apart from you guys…” Eunice asked.

“Not really! Some girls moved in next door about a month ago.” She said sharply.

It was after answering that Chongolo realised she had just knocked down the pot of beans on the fire. Even though that was the case, Eunice didn’t make any comment on it.

She opened the door for her and left, after all, she was tired from the long trip from Kabwe.

But that wasn’t it, Eunice had taken note of what she heard, she couldn’t believe Bwalya never said anything about the other room being occupied.

Even though Bwalya was crafty, he was always up for sharing stuff with his girlfriend. But this time around, he kept silent about it. Eunice sat down and took a deep breathe.

She didn’t want to entertain the thought of her boyfriend cheating on her.

‘No! his better than this… Maybe he just forgot… But he never forgets anything…’ She thought to herself.

The temptation of getting her phone and calling him grew stronger by the minute but she couldn’t get herself yo call him. It was meant to be a surprise after all.

Rose had heard the door close, “Can that be Max?” She asked.

“Max! come to think of it… I haven’t seen him the whole day. wonder where he went.” Maluba said.

“I don’t think have seen either one of them.” Rose added.

“By the way, have you hard from Mengo?” She asked.

“Not today, he sent me a bunch of messages the other day saying hire much he missed and wanted to be with me.” Rose said lowly.

“Do you miss him?”

“How can I not miss him. But I need to be sound when it cones to things that affect my life. I cant have a man treat me like am nothing.” Rose said.

“Amen to that.” Maluba responded.

“I just want someone who understands me, values me, and respects me. Its not like that’s a lot of ask!” She exclaimed.

Since the room was dark, the TV was the only source of light for them. Maluba was busy giggling after hearing Rose make her last remark.

“What’s funny?” Rose asked as she giggled as well.

“You just name a bunch of things and ask if that’s a lot… But! Am proud of you. Its not easy to do what you doing.” Maluba said.

“And you need to talk to your man. He shouldn’t be calling at awkward hours. Just when you want to sleep, he calls. Is he a vampire or something.” Rose said as she continued to giggle.

“Am used with him, I don’t just feel the need to force him to communicate with me. After all, his an adult, I can’t be always asking him to check up on me.” Maluba said in a low voice.

“And I though you Romeo and Juliet.”

“Eh! so now you making fun of me right?” Maluba said as she threw a pillow to where Rose was seated.

“Am just saying, you seem to be in a stable relationship.” Rose commented again.

“Just because I don’t complain about it doesn’t mean it’s all rainbows. I’ve just decided that I won’t stress myself over a man.” Maluba said this time around around sounding more confident.

“What else do we need?” Samuel asked Max.

“I think that’s all. Unless you want to buy talk time again.” Max laughed.

From the table where they stood, Doris and her friends had just reached in close proximity. As Max turned he hit into one of the girls and that sparked fire.

“Ninshi tamulemona eko muleya (You can’t see where you going)?” The young girl exclaimed loudly.

“Ninshi baby! Nibanani (What is it baby! who is it)?” Another other asked in a vulgar tone.

“Sorry sister!” Max said lightly.

“Ninani tumume imbezi! (Who is it we hammer!)” Another voice echoed. It was Doris’s voice and Max was able to recognise it clearly.

Without him saying another word, some guys started moving closer round the scene. Samuel dragged Max by the hand and lead him away from all the commotion.

“I just said sorry…” Max said sounding a bit confused.

“You act like you not from Kopala, They will just gang you down apapene (right here)” Samuel said as the took another root from where the girls had now began shouting.

“I thought I heard Doris’s voice among the girls.”

“These kids, u wouldn’t be surprised.” Samuel said.

Bwalya had just reached The Square and already on the brai stand with the guys.

“Check that one out…” One guy pointed out a lady that wore what seemed like a crop top and high waist Jean.

“That’s my type of ride…” Another guy seconded as they all laughed.

“I don’t do skinny girls bro… I go for heavy duty ladies, I love some meat on them bones.” Another said as he pointed to one of the chubby girls that was dancing.

“Drop it like it’s hot girl!” Bwalya shouted.

He was a good talker and had a way with people, it was the reason who could land a different girl every time he went out drinking. But this time, he didn’t want just any girl, he had a specific one on his mind and he was going to make sure he got her to go home with him.

“What’s up… drink up man. There is plenty where that came from.” His friends said as they began making noise.

“DJ lishapo (play) Finally!”

“Finally! Finally iwe!”

Everyone began to shout for the finally song and once it was played, everyone moved to the square and began dancing. Bwalya already had 5 bottles since he arrived, the courage to hit the dance flow had already been belt.

“Naipeza ba-m-bo finally!” Bwalya shouted as he danced with one of the girls.

She moved close to him and gave him a kiss on the cheek, then she turned around, bent over and began to twerk on Bwalya… he was already in the mood, the alcohol was working as he touched her behind and began to grind his privates into her behind like his life dependent on it.

At this point he didn’t care who he was taking home, he just had to take someone home. The girl danced her way to the floor and then Bwalya got on top of her and began dancing like a mad man.

“Get a room! Get a room! Get a room!” People began shouting as they watched them dance.
