Sola casted a stunned look at her, she was of both Igbo and Yoruba.

He didn’t realized he said it out loud until she replies him with an upper smile, revealing her gap-tooth and dimples.

Sola raised a brow, now studying her with unwavering attention.

She wasn’t exactly the attractive type but she does have a pretty smile.

He sized her, taking down her features which, he noted, were fair.

He met her gaze when he looked back at her face.

It was his turn to be embarrassed.

Your mother sounds strict” he chuckles lowly, making sure it was loud enough for her to hear. She had just she told him how her mother had told her, there was no way she would have her first and last name be Yoruba.

Oh! She was”

They both were.

She nibbled at her fingernail looking down at her shoes.

Sola noted her use of past tense and understood what she meant.

Her eyes were clouded and he saw sadness in them and decided to change the topic.

He knows what it is like to loose a family member, only in his case, all he felt whenever he thought of it was nothing but rage.

The ringing of her phone dispersed the melancholy that filled the air. Amara told him her ride had arrived so she excuses herself thanking him.

She advised him to apply for a job at Kent Limited, a friend of hers, who work there, told her they were hiring.

She left the restaurant hurriedly, just as she came, sparing him a glance, before finally walking out.

The air felt cold immediately Amara left. He enjoyed her company very much.

She seemed really nice.

Sola called one of the waiters, telling him he wanted his food packaged. When he asked for the bill, he was told Amara paid.

He quickly ran out to catch up with her.

To thank her.

She had already left.

Eudora sat by her window looking into the night sky as she sips her wine. She looked at the clock again wondering why her niece wasn’t home yet.

It is very unlike her.

Her fingers began tapping the frame of her window, vigorously. She really needed a smoke. She stood up and began pacing the room.

She hadn’t held a cigarette for three weeks and it is driving her nuts. She poured herself more wine and gulped it down, all at a go.

Her niece would definitely be pissed when she comes home and find her like this. She open her drawer and took out a photo. It was a picture of her younger self.

She remembered the good old days.

Days she was so dedicated to her job.

So confident in her discoveries.

So smart.

That is until this one case. She pulled out an old newspaper.

It was all over the news.

All over the net.

It was all a mystery.

It still is.

Maybe not to the world.

She thought shrugging her shoulders.

How she got relieved of her job.

She picked up the bottle of wine and drank, ignoring the glass cup.

“Are you seriously kidding me?”

Her niece was back.

We talked about this. No drinking”

Dora shocked her head.

“We only talked about no smoking” she replies in an alcohol-soaked voice.

Amara groaned and snatched the bottle from her aunt’s hand, frustrated about how her aunt had been handling things these past years.

She never tried to make friends.

Never even tried to keep the ones she had.

All she does is sit by the window side and wallow in pain of the past.

It was all Amara idea to open a supermarket and she had been the one looking after the store.

You know you could always walk out and experience life. You don’t have to sit by your window and watch from afar”

She stayed with her aunt till she fell asleep before retiring to bed.

As she laid, her thoughts were all on him. She slept that night with a wide smile on her face.
