Chapter 43

Alma.

That night, I decided not to go to Clifford’s room to sleep, I want to see what he would do? He shouldn’t punish me for refusing to sleep in his room, it’s not in the terms of the contract and why would he even tell me to sleep in his room when I have mine.

I had already slept off when I heard a tap on the bed. I opened my puffy eye and saw Clifford. He was on a short jean and a blue oversized singlet.

“Did you forget that you were supposed to sleep in my room?” He asked.

“And does that mean you can sleep without me?” I adjusted upright and asked.

“Why do you feel like you are important? I have my reasons for wanting you to sleep on my bed.” He said.

“Reasons? so I wouldn’t steal anything in this room, right? what makes you think I can not steal during the day?” I asked.

“Thieves only work at night. Avoid the long talk and move to my room.” He said.

“Of course not, I’m not moving to your room for any reason.”

“You know what I do for people that makes me feel insulted, right?” He asked.

“Suspend them like you suspended Earl? Just because I refuse to sleep in the same room with you? Okay, suspend me and I’ll tell the world, they would judge and see if you are right.” I said.

“You must very silly. Stop threatening me with telling this and that to the world.” He said.

“Just saying, though. How can I threaten you?” I asked?

“Move to my room, poor girl.” He ordered.

“No.” I said and kept watching him.

I threw my two hands at him and said, “Carry me to your room.” I was smiling.

He furrowed his brow and quickly moved back. Don’t make me contact your poverty body, please.”

“Then it’s best you sleep alone, then.” I withdrew my hand and said.

He watched me for few seconds and said, “What did you want this time?”

“What I want to sleep in your room?” I chuckled. “Well, just carry me to your room.”

“I can’t touch you.” He said.

“I’m healthy, if you touch me ,nothing will happen to you. Poor people are not full of disease. Sickness are random and it happens to the rich and to the poor.” I said.

“Preach on! I can’t carry you.” He said and I fell back to the bed.

“It means I won’t be able to sleep in your room tonight.” I said.

Clifford watched me for few minutes them he turned and walked away.

I sat up and wondered if he went to call folks that would carry me or something?

I stood and walked out, I couldn’t see him in the passage that leads downstairs. He must have entered his room.

But can he give up just like that?

I opened the door to his room gently but couldn’t see anyone, I heard a movement and entered fully to see but the door closed all of a sudden.
