MY HEART DESIRE – Episode 7

He stopped in his tracks as he heard sounds of gunshots, he wanted to go back but decided against it because it could be too late and perhaps bad for him too. Shock, pain and confusion ran through his brains as he raced like a madman back to his apartment. A car nearly ran over him, the driver drove away furiously raining curses on him.

Lucy’s mother had suggested they leave Lucy out of the matter in the meantime so that he find a solution to the problem first. Anyway he knew sooner or later he had to break it to her because it not only deeply involved her but it also could get out of hand.  Dan could only imagine how hard a task it was breaking such heartbreaking news to his fiancee.

“I will cross that bridge when the time comes,” he muttered to himself as he crossed the lane leading to his apartment. This time he just wanted to be with his woman, to comfort her because sooner or later the news about the death of her mother would be circulating or so he thought.

He opened his apartment but he could not help feel something was terribly wrong, or maybe it was just the shock and confusion that was beginning to take a toll on him. Something was amiss, some strange smell hit him and he rushed to the kitchen to find the shock of his life. The entire kitchen was almost burning the food that was cooking was burnt producing a foul smell. He almost choked when the dense black smoke filled his nostrils as he switched off the cooker and extinguished the fire.

What came over Lucy, she had never been this careless he thought to himself as he hurried to the bedroom. It was empty and that was another reason for his bile juice to boil. “Lucy, Lucy,” he shouted but the only response he got was the echo coming from the walls.

In his hurry to the kitchen he had not noticed how messy his sitting room was. There seemed to be a struggle he noted as he noticed Lucy’s phone under the table. He had not cried in a really long time but now he felt like crying his lungs out and letting out his frustration.

First was the news about how Lucy’s father sold her to an agent of darkness and now she was missing, missing to only God knows where.

What if she was taken by the angel of darkness he quickly left that thought.  “Please come back to me Lucy,” Dan cried and sank on the floor holding the left slipper that Lucy left behind. Dan could not think of anything, he could not report to the police just yet.  He wanted to believe that his woman was somewhere safe and sound and would soon be back to him. This is a bad dream, he thought staring blankly at space.

In a dark room in an uncompleted building in the middle of nowhere was Lucy who was unconscious and unaware of her sorrounding. She slowly came to and was shocked to find herself tightly tied to a chair unable to move. She remembered the events that led to this as two men had broken into Dan’s forcing her to go with them. She had put a fierce resistance when one slapped her hard until she lost consciousness and now she found herself here.

The room was pitch dark with no sound to atleast give her a clue that she was among the living. In a moment she was in the comfort of Dan’s house and the next she was unconscious confined in a dark room, how funny, she thought.

The door opened and the bulb switched on the lights nearly blinding her. A plate of poorly cooked rice was shoved towards her, she looked up to meet a not too friendly face staring down at her. The face was not familiar and her heartbeats increased.

When the man had untied her hands and left she quickly untied her legs and dashed to the door thinking the man was stupid leaving her untied. The smile on her face died of as she realised that the door was firmly locked from the outside.

She suddenly heard voices outside and fixed her ears on the door to try and eavesdrop. “Have you given her food?” a female voice asked, “yes madam,” a deep husky voice replied and she knew it belonged to the man that had left the room few minutes ago.

The woman’s voice sounded familiar but she could not place when or where she had heard it.  Her mind wandered to Dan, she wondered what he was going through at the moment. Her parents could be really worried because she remembered she had dropped her phone back at the house. However, she knew her mother was not in the house and she was not sure if her absence could be known by her.

She flashed a look at the rice and could not help miss the fine delicacies that was served at home.

The door opened minutes later revealing a beautiful middle aged lady that was grinning mockingly at her with the bearded man behind her. “Sarah,” she gasped as realization of the familiar voice dawned on her.

To be continued.

  1. One of the crazy things i've known is the craziness of unrequited love. It can make sarah do things she knows are wrong and could land her in trouble.
