Chapter 31

Micheal’s p.o.v

“Yeah… I just… I kinda wanted you to…”

Shocked, I debate it.

It’s not harmful in any way to lay next to her at least until she falls asleep.

But, I am soaked in my own clothes and should probably change regardless.

“Um… yeah, I can. I just need to change quickly.”

“Okay.” She smiles softly, getting comfortable.

I smile and nod before quickly heading to my room to undress and get into my pyjamas.

I choose a long sleeve T-shirt and some plaid pyjama pants.

I usually sleep naked but I feel like that’s not quite appropriate for this situation.

I return moments later, kind of excited – pretty excited – to get to lay next to her.

When I get back, I come inside quietly shutting the door behind me and walking up to the bed.

Her eyes are closed softly and I fear I have missed the boat already.

“Amanda?” I ask quietly, not wanting to wake her but kind of hoping she’s not already asleep.

She takes a deep breath in and shuffles in the bed.

“Yeah?”

“I just wasn’t sure if you were awake,” I whisper and chuckle softly.

“No… I’m not.” She smiles, moving over to let me in.

I go and lay on top of the covers next to her, leaving enough room for her to be comfortable but close enough that we can hear each other if we whisper.

“You don’t have to stay on top of the covers… I won’t be offended.” She says with a smirk.

“Drunk Amanda is cheeky.” I chuckle, slipping under the covers next to her.

Once I’m under the covers, I realize how close we really are.

The heat from her body is now warming mine within the foot of space that we share between us.

“Micheal” She asks again, with a weaker voice this time.

“Yeah?”

“Can you… sing me something… like you did the other night? My mom used to sing to me before I went to sleep when I was younger… it was nice.”

“Sure, what would you like me to sing?”

“Anything.”

I reposition myself by propping myself up with one arm, resting my head in my hand as I lay to face her.

I try to remember a song, one that is somewhat soothing and slow.

I think back to a few nights ago when Solomon was on in the living room while we were eating dinner.

I haven’t seen any of it but I remember the song that played – Memories Crash.

I had heard it before that night but that was the only time I had really realized where I had heard it.

“It’s always too soon, it’s always too fast…” I begin to sing softly to her in a near whisper.

A soft smile appears on her face while she gets comfortable once again, getting a little closer to me, closing the small gap between us even further.

It’s almost surreal – all of this. It wasn’t that long ago that I paid this girl no mind, thinking she’d be so temporary.

Now, I think she could very well become everything to me and I get to marry her.

“I would go a million miles for the slightest chance to be near you… to hold your hand…”

When her breathing becomes consistent and her face falls into a gentle and relaxed expression, I realize that she’s asleep.

Without a second thought, I pull my hand to her face and gently tickle her skin with my fingertips, softly grazing her forehead and down to her cheeks in a continuous pattern.

Something about getting to touch her now makes this so much more real.

In just under two weeks, she’ll be my wife.

It’s scary but at the same time, exciting.

I pull my hand away and slide down in the bed, resting my head on the pillow, just watching her while she peacefully sleeps.

“Don’t stop.” I hear her whisper quietly.

She wasn’t asleep.

I can feel my cheeks burn slightly as I’m a little embarrassed but soon that fades with a warm buzz that reminds me that she wants me here, she wants me to touch her and lay here next to her.

She just likes being around me.

So, as she requested, I bring my hand back up to her face and trace her features with my fingertips, watching as she eases back into, what I once again believe is, sleep.
