NOT ANOTHER LOVE STORY

Episode – 21

#MWAPE
“So, what do you plan on doing?” Emily asked.
“I don’t plan on telling him,” I told her.
“You can’t keep this from him. He’s the father after all.”
“I understand. I thought I can do this but I can’t. Am just being a pain _ I have nothing to add to his life. I like him. I can’t let him lose his inheritance just to come and suffer along with me.” I told her.
“What did Chipo say?” Emily asked.
“Well, I told her about the whole running away to Livingstone thing and she was pissed.” I laughed.
“I get why she was pissed. You’ve been that perfect example at home and now all this has happened… Oh, James keeps calling me.” Emily said.
“I told him to leave me alone. Why is he bothering you?”
“Ati he misses you.” She said as we began to laugh it out.
“I really don’t know how to advise you mwandi. You need to be careful with that Ivy girl. I hear she’s mischievous and always makes sure she gets what she wants.” Emily told me.

The sun was scorching hot, ice cream was the only thing sustaining our conversation. Limpo had gone mute on me after she found out about Allan, it was mostly because she warned and I still went ahead to do the exact thing she warned me against.
Emily on the other hand was trying her best to be supportive until I sort for her opinion on Allan’s genius idea of going to Livingstone.

“I won’t lie, am scared of that girl. I mean, she’s totally different from how Allan used to describe her.” I commented.
“Well, both Ivy and Allan come from very influential families. She might act all spoilt and crazy…” We both began to laugh as Emily said that. I didn’t believe she had gone to dig out information about Ivy. At the end of our talk, I understood why the Manager was afraid of what she could do.

“Mwape, Your phone is ringing?” Besa called out to me.
“Who is calling?”
“It’s written private number.” She said as she brought me the phone.
“Thank you…”

*Phone Call*
“Hello…”
“Hi, is this Mwape?” The lady on the other end asked.
“Yes. May I know who this is?” I asked.
“Are you home?” She asked. Totally ignoring my question.
“I am.” “Why?”
“Kindly come outside.” He said.

I got up and checked from the window, I could see a black BMW parked outside. I got into my slippers and went to check who it was… Little did I know the devil herself had visited me.

“Hello…” Ivy waved at me with a smile. Just that gesture alone left me confused and paralysed. That cold feeling that leaves you useless had just hugged me.
“You look like You’ve seen a ghost.” She continued.
“What are you doing here?” I asked her. My eyes couldn’t help but look around to just make sure she was alone.
“Well, I’ve come to see you. Why else would I be here?” She asked me.
“I don’t want trouble. Kindly leave.” I told her.
“Am not going anywhere. It’s actually for your own low-life benefit that am here. So, if you could be so kind and come with me… It will only take a minute of your time.” Ivy said. She opened the door and waited for me.

Ivy was the last person I was expecting to see. My mind would only tell me that if she was here then she was up to something. This meant she knew something.

“How did you find out where I stay?” I asked Ivy. We were now in the car.
“Someone who knows someone told me. You don’t have to worry. So, how is life at home?” She asked me.
“Are you here to mock me?”
“Not at all, I would like to know how Allan got to you… With his kind of status, I find it weird that you didn’t know who he was.” She said. Ivy had this boastful way of speaking that was intimidating at the same time.
“Am not going to be telling you that!” I responded.
“I see, you think going to Livingstone will do you any good?” She asked me.

I didn’t want to blow it, I composed myself and behaved like everything was just okay. That didn’t get me to wonder how she knew about Livingstone.

“You can pretend all you like, but you need to understand that what is going on between Allan and myself is bigger than you.” She chuckled.
“What do you mean?”
“Well, If Allan was to back off and leave the inheritance, that would mean someone else would have to fill in… What do you know about his family?” She asked me.
“Nothing much… Just what he has told me.” I told her.
“I see. I will tell you this if Allan doesn’t get the inheritance _ his stepmother wins and that is something the father can’t allow.”
“Wait, are you saying that his father will do anything to make sure you two get married?” I asked.

The amount of shock that hit me was something I couldn’t relay in words. All along, my thought was that the inheritance wasn’t a big deal. Now, this…

“I don’t care what you two plan on doing. You can get married for all I care… It’s not like I ever loved him. My family doesn’t have anything to lose either way… But if that woman and her children get to run the company then my father’s shares will be on the line. It’s something civil, but if not handled well, bodies might start dropping.” Ivy explained.
“But why? Why would you get married to someone you don’t love? I don’t think I can do that for money.” I told her, I shook my head as hard as I could to just free myself from what I had heard.
“Mwape, I want you to do something for me and I will return the favour in kind.” Ivy stopped the car.
