Chapter 11

Dylan, who was chewing a bunch of freshly buttered popcorn, shrugged his shoulders.

“It’s just easy to forget about it sometimes.”

“Really? The first thing I’d probably look for when getting out of the house is my wallet. It has everything, my driver’s license, my credit card and my smoothie loyalty card.”

“You have a loyalty card for smoothies?” he raised an eyebrow.

“Of course. If I can get one more smoothie, then they’ll give me a free one.”

“I’m surprised. I didn’t know people could actually have the commitment to keep one of those things. Every time they give me a new one, I end up throwing it away or losing it so I never get any more than two stamps on that thing.”

“What can I say? I’m committed to my blueberry smoothies,” I said proudly.

They soon found themselves sitting in the middle of the theatre already in the midst of the ads for the upcoming movies. As the movies started, they laughed and smiled at the funny bits of the moments and solemnly through the sad moments.

She yawned as she stretched out her legs,

“That wasn’t as bad as I thought it would be.”

“Yeah, it had Betty White so it was bound to be good,” he said while checking his watch and as he saw the time, he scrunched up his face,

“Hey, I actually have to be somewhere so would it be alright if I went ahead?”

Daniella, raising her eyebrow, looked onto him curiously but didn’t question him.

People sometimes had to be somewhere else. And she trusted him.

“Sure, just give me a kiss before you leave,” she said, leaning towards him.

He smiled apologetically and gave her a quick peck on the lips before running out of the theatre, leaving Daniella to herself, not that she minded.

‘Now, let’s see. I’m supposed to run an errand for dad tomorrow but since I have time I guess I’ll just do it now,’ she thought to herself, while throwing away the empty popcorn box.’

To her surprise, when she arrived home, she wasn’t expecting guests.

She was even more surprised when she saw two large trucks parked in the driveway of her home.

Puzzled at the sheer size, she was about to walk onto the driveway when she saw the door opening to a group of men with what looked like her living room couch.

“Hey!” she screamed while running towards them.

“What are you doing?”

The two men stared at her indifferently and continued to heave her couch into their truck that when she took another look, was filled with more of their furniture.

“What the— stop right there!”

“Daniella?”

She turned at the sound her name being called to see her parents come out of the house.

Thankful that they were here, she ran up to them and gave them a worried look.

“What’s going on? What’s with these douchebags taking our furniture?”

Her parents gave each other discreet glances but she was quick enough to catch on.

She quickly pressured them, not willing to let her parent’s be taken over and made them give into her hard stare.

“Well, the company had some problems and we weren’t able to make any profits for the past couple of weeks. I’m afraid we’ve gone bankrupt.”

Daniella stared with wide eyes. She didn’t know they were having trouble.

“I thought the company was doing well?”

Her father sighed,

“We were, but a few weeks ago, everything started going downhill and no one was willing to make any contracts with us. The worst case scenario has finally arrived. I have to get the house repossessed just to pay off some of the debt we still have left over. But don’t worry! A friend of mine owns a motel near by where he’s willing to let us stay for as long as we like.”

Daniella couldn’t comprehend what was happening. Everything was really normal up until a few weeks ago.

What could have possibly gone wrong?

“I’m sorry, Daniella. I promise, I’ll get the family back. ”
