Years went by, Life was rosy for Hope and everything went blissful not until Monica fell sick..

 

Test was made and confirmed she has a fibroid and was prepared for an operation..

 

Hope was confident Monica will make it through as she silently prayed in her heart for her sitting outside the OR room with Math.

 

Minutes later nurses came running in and out and they stood up alarmed looking at them confused.

 

“What the hell is going on? Math angrily held one of them who wanted ignoring them.

 

“Your wife is loosing blood and we are trying our best to stop it, a nurse replied.

 

“What? I can donate my blood if she needs it, please do something, Hope said.

 

“We are just from the blood bank and her blood type is available, but the bleeding is the problem, please excuse me, the nurse said and ran in.

 

“No please God do something am begging you, Hope whispered closing her eyes as she paced round while the medical team keeps going in and out of the OR room.

 

Finally the door opened and a man came out which they rushed to him,

 

“How was it doctor? She survived it right? Math asked but the doctor shook his head..

 

“Am sorry, she bled a lot in a way we don’t understand despite all we did to save her, the doctor replied and Hope went back with her mouth opened.

 

“You’re joking ain’t you? No I can’t believe this! What happened to my mother what did you do! Hope shouted and ran into the OR room and met the nurses covering Monica face.

 

“Mommy please don’t do this, didn’t you say you’ll never leave me? No please let me see her I beg you! Hope cried when she was held outside…

 

The funeral service of Monica was held and Hope cried uncontrollably when her casket was lowered.

 

She get to remember the first time they met and how Monica became her live saver through out the years.

 

“Goodbye Mother, life was cruel to take you away this short when I haven’t done one thing for you yet.

 

Thanks for being there for me when no one was there. I don’t know what to say right now, but only God knows how hurt I am and how bad I’ll miss you. Thanks for making me feel a love of a mother, but why do you have to go? Did you even think of me when you gave up?

 

Why mother! Hope screamed and fell and Math held her up and took her away from the cemetery.

 

Days passed after Monica funeral and it’ll soon be Hope 15th birthday.

 

Hope refused to celebrate when she remembered the plans Monica had for her before her death.

 

“How long will you keep mourning her? Its your 15th birthday and I know how bad you want to celebrate it, common your mother will say same to you, Math said.

 

“But dad I don’t want to, I want my mom to be there, we planned this together, but now she’s no more there will be no birthday party, Hope said.

 

“But i am here right to take her place? Common Hope you deserve to be happy alright, Math said striking her hair and Hope shook her head and shifted away from him..

 

“Dad I am not happy and please don’t force it. I understand you’re doing this for my happiness but am sorry to say that, mom was my happiness, Hope said and left for her room while Math sat admiring her beauty.

 

He shook his head and drank his wine and a call came on his phone,

 

“Hey man are you home? A voice came on phone.

 

“Yea why? Math replied.

 

“Can we hop in to say hi? His friends shouted in the background.

 

“You’re so funny, why will you even ask that when you know the door is open anytime, Math replied and they laughed.

 

“Expect us soon, they said and dropped the call.

 

Minutes later they arrived cheering themselves and Hope rolled her eyes in the room when the noise was distracting her.

 

She dressed up on a bom-short and a sleeveless top, took her guitar and left the room.

 

“Dad I’ll be going for practice, she said meeting them in the sitting room.

 

“Uhmm glad you’re going out today, that’s good,  Math replied.

 

“Thanks I’ll be back, Hope said and left while Math friends couldn’t stop staring.

 

“Hey hold it there! Math shouted at them.

 

“Mhennnn your step daughter is an overwhelming beautiful girl, too bad she’s your daughter and you will miss the fun, One of his friends said.

 

“Hey what do you mean? Math asked.

 

“Stop kidding me, you know what am talking about, another replied.

 

“Look, she will soon be 15 and too young for any of those dirty things, keep her out of it, Math replied.

 

“15 years and this pretty? I can’t to see her in her 20s, his friend said.

 

‘And who said a 15 years girl can’t have fun? You will be surprised to know a guy is already smashing her back while you are here mourning your dead wife, another said.

 

“No no, she is not that kind of girl ok and enough of that talk, Math said popping a wine and they cheered happily.

 

“So can I flirt with her? His friend asked and winked at Math.

 

“you’re crazy, Math replied and switched on the television………….

 

“Hope are you okay? Her friend asked her in school.

 

“I’m fine, just that tomorrow is my birthday, she replied.

 

“Are you serious girlfriend? Her friend wanted shouting but Hope quickly covered her mouth.

 

“Why are you happy? Not that am celebrating, Hope said.

 

“You’re not celebrating? But why? She asked.

 

“My mom isn’t here and she planned to make it big. That’s not my concern but the fact that she won’t be celebrating with me this year makes me sad. I miss her so much, Hope said with tears streaming out and her friend hugged her.

 

“I understand but you need to be strong okay, her friend said cleaning her tears and Hope sniffed.

 

“Happy birthday in advance, I wish you happiness, her friend whispered and Hope smiled.

 

“Thank you, she replied and a teacher walked into the class.

 

“How are you Hope? The man asked.

 

“Very fine thank you, Hope replied making sure her eyes is dry.

 

“See me after the class okay, the man said and she nodded.

 

“Okay, good afternoon everyone and I hope you’re ready for the big exams coming, the man said concentrating on the class…………..

 

“Grand ma this is beautiful, thank you! Palesa Shouted when she returned from school and met the gown Fiona bought for her birthday party.

 

“Anything for you my darling, Fiona replied but Palesa kept a sad face.

 

“What’s wrong? Fiona asked.

 

“It’s mom and dad, they won’t be coming down for the party and it’ll be so incomplete without them, she replied.

 

“Honey i hope you know the reason why they won’t be attending this year party right? Fiona asked.

 

“I know, am not mad at them but just missing them, Palesa replied.

 

“They sent their wishes sweetheart, though they won’t make it to the party but they are with you and you know that, Fiona said.

 

“Uhmmm I can smell them already, Palesa said smiling.

 

“Now that’s the spirit. Do you love the gown? Fiona asked.

 

“Yes will be an understatement. Can I try it? Palesa asked.

 

“Yea sure, I gat this parcel from your mom and its for you, Fiona said giving her a bag and she slowly opened it and brought out a shoe and a gold wristwatch.

 

“From mom and dad darling, happy birthday angel, Palesa read the card.

 

“Wow, they didn’t tell me they’ll be sending something. where’s my phone I need to call them, Palesa said and ran out while Fiona smiled at her……………..

 

Palesa woke up the next day with the sound of her phone ringing and it was Best nanny showing on her screen.

 

“Hello best Nanny, Palesa said picking up.

 

“Happy birthday my angel, I wish you every good things in life, Anastasia said.

 

“And again you’re the first person wishing me a happy birthday, thank you, Palesa happily replied.

 

“I’m glad I still beat the first, don’t worry i have your presents here and whenever you arrive in SA it’ll all be yours, Anastasia said.

 

“Awwnnn I can’t wait, oh mom is calling, Palesa said seeing the waiting call.

 

“Have a boom party and be careful alright, love you, Anastasia said.

 

“Love you too bye, Palesa replied and the line went dead.

 

“Hello mom, good morning, Palesa picked up.

 

“I guess someone got first again to wish you a happy birthday, but i don’t care because mine is more important. I hope it wasn’t a boy? Julia asked and Palesa laughed.

 

“It wasn’t, she replied.

 

“Oh that’s better. happy birthday darling, don’t worry I’ll Make it up to you next year, Julia said.

 

“Mom I understand its not your fault, thank you mom. Where’s dad? Palesa asked.

 

“He’s sleeping, she replied.

 

“I hope he’s doing good? And his legs? Palesa asked.

 

“Your dad is fine, he’s recovering. Have fun okay, Julia replied.

 

“Sure, love you, Palesa said.

 

“Love you too angel, I’ll call you later to speak with your dad, Julia replied.

 

“Alright mom, bye, Palesa said and dropped the call.

 

“Birthday girl still sleeping? Palesa heard Fiona voice outside the door.

 

“No mom, Palesa replied and got up to open the door by Jason call came through and she looked at her phone smiling happily………….
