Chapter 45

Anastasia p.o.v

Will this be a pleasant experience for him?

Probably not, but I wanted to bring him to my favourite place, I don’t know about it being safe though.

I’m still alive, so I guess that is all that matters. And if something happens I will fight my way out of it.

Arnaldo has nothing to worry about.

Lucky for him, we weren’t going to take the subway tonight. I might have to plan something so we go during the day so he knows what I actually deal with on a day to day basis.

Where I was taking him wasn’t that far to walk.

To me, I’m used to walking around or taking a cab.

Arnaldo didn’t complain about it.

All he did was listen to me ramble about some creep that touched me earlier in the night.

And how it was so quiet that I can’t pay my bills.

And how I messed around with these girls, but they pay me to do it.

He just listened.

It wasn’t until then I realised that I talk about myself more than he talks about himself.

I don’t think that’s fair.

He shouldn’t be so mysterious.

I want to know things about him.

Like his job, what he does, his favourite things.

The séx is nice and all, but if he is so pressed about me staying over with him, this is how it’s going to happen.

I was about to ask him to speak up and say something, but we were at my favourite restaurant.

It’s nothing fancy, and it’s definitely not healthy food, but I have been coming here since I moved to the city.

I got excited, and Arnaldo didn’t understand, but it’s always nice to go out for food at midnight.

I do this all the time with my coworkers, so I know the best places and what to get. And we are lucky that this place is open throughout the night.

Arnaldo should really try doing this more often.

I walked right up to the counter and put my arms down so I could rest my head on it.

“Hi penny.” I said politely.

She was wiping a glass with a white cloth.

She gave me this look like she was expecting me.

It Tuesday and there is nothing to do, so of course I would be here.

I smiled widely at him, and she shook her head.

“Staying out of trouble, Anastasia?” She asked.

“Nope.” I answered truthfully.

“I figured.” She said as she rubbed my hair.

Penny has always been nice to me, giving me advice, desperately not wanting me to work at the strip club, giving me hope to get back into school.

I think she is the only adult influence I have.

She has her own life, and her own problems, but she talked to me when I didn’t have any friends yet.

She getting old.

She has four grandkids. She says that if she didn’t have one more on the way, she would sell the restaurant and go to the Bahamas.

We both know she is not going anywhere.

She likes staying with her family way too much.

“I put fresh flowers on your parents grave today.” She said as she continued wiping the glass.

“It rained right after I left, so I don’t know what to tell you.”

“It’s okay. I will go up there in a couple of days.” I told her.

I haven’t gone to talk to my parents in about a month…I should go.

I will bring flowers too.

“What do you and your, uh…friend want?” She gestured to Arnaldo who was waiting at an empty table.

I hadn’t realised that there were other people in the restaurant until I turned back.

“That is Arnaldo.”

“He looks so cute and young too.” Penny narrowed her eyes.

“He is actually really nice.” I smiled.

“He comes to the club a lot.” I said to make penny upset.

Hearing those words sends red flags everywhere, and she thinks I should know that.

“Relax, we are just fvcking.”

Penny chocked on air.

“I’m kidding.” I said quickly when I saw the expression on her face.

“I got this.” I tried to reassure her but it didn’t work.

She was still skeptical.

Her dark brows furrowed as she narrowed her eyes at me again.

“I’m not going to get kidnapped.” I said quietly.

“Besides you are the one that tells me I act a little too old for my age.”

“When you are not being reckless.” She corrected.

“You get your priorities together, you save up for a rainy day, you know how to look after yourself.” She listed for me.

“But this is not acting your age.”
