Chapter 54

Alma.

I couldn’t believe my ears, it was like I didn’t hear what he said well, did he just apologize to me?

I turned to him and looked at his face, did he just say ‘sorry?’

“Are you still angry?” He asked. His face was calm unlike other times.

I shook my head in response.

“You can sleep.” He said and I laid gently like a kid.

All through the night, I could not stop myself from thinking about what Clifford said, perhaps, I had heard that in my head.

Following morning, he had already dressed in his uniform before I even wake.

“Good morning.” I greeted him and took my face straight to where he stood.

“You should get dress quick.” He said.

I got up quick and went to my room, by the time I was done, he had already left his room.

I walked swiftly downstairs but I didn’t see anyone around.

Have they gone and left me behind? I stood and looked around, I do not seem to percieve the presence of anyone around.

I walked out and realized that the car had left me behind. Why would they leave me behind?

I checked my wrist watch and saw that it was only few minutes to 8PM. I will definitely be getting late to school today.

“Alma.” I heard a familiar voice and I turned. It was Clifford.

“I thought you have…” I paused what I wanted to say on realizing that he was not dressed in his uniform. “Erm… what’s the occasion?”

“Dad invited me to a conference, I do not really have the chance to see him but I’ll be able to see him today.” There was a glint of happiness on his face. I wondered why he was telling me.

“Okay…” I stressed, still wondering where others we’re and how I would get to school.

“I told Edwin and the rest of my brothers to leave to school and not worry about you.” He said.

“But…why?” I asked.

“Cause I want us to go together, you are my dancer, remember?” He asked.

“Sure, just that… Erm… Such occassion will be a great one and I did not even have expensive cloth, not like I meant that you should buy me a cloth, I only meant that you could have chosen someone else. Imagine a poor thing like me following you to such a rich location?” I was being sarcastic.

“It’s good you know you are a poor thing, but you are still my dancer. If I appear there, it would be honorable if they see my dancer with me.” He said.

“Hmm!” I said.

“I’ve ordered some clothes for you, you can check the one you love.” He said and walked inside.

Few minutes later, two women walked in with some packs of clothes.

They led me to a room and applied some make ups on my face after which I got dressed.

I walked out to Clifford, as soon as he sighted me, he stood and asked, “Is this…Alma?”
