Chapter 23

Alma.

All the times that we were inside the car, we were all quiet, it was like a graveyard. On getting to his house, I stepped down.

We walked inside the living room and I saw all his other brothers sitting except Earl. It was Earl who promised to help if Clifford did not help.

He seems to be the only one that liked me, I could have asked Edwin but I’m not close enough to him to ask such question yet.

“Lead her to her room.” Clifford said to Edwin. Edwin gestured for me to follow him and I did.

The room I was taken too was a different room to the one I was given before, it was more beautiful and I even loved it more than the previous one.

“Seems you are lucky, after all.” Edwin said softly.

“Meaning?” I asked but he didn’t reply, he only walked out.

Few hours later, I heard a knock on my door and I opened it.

“It’s time to eat, come and join us.” Edwin said.

“Join you guys in eating? what an honor.” I followed him to the dinning.

Clifford and two of his brothers were already seated. Edwin and I walked towards the dinning and sat.

Again , there was silence. I knew better not to utter a word.

Clifford hasn’t finished eating his food yet when he stood.

“I feel so irritated eating with this poor thing.” He said and walked away.

“If Clifford won’t eat with her, we won’t also.” Two of his brother said and walked away with him.

I felt so embarrassed, it was by far one of my greatest embarrassment.

“But he invited me to come to eat?” I asked Edwin, he was the only one left.

“Yes, according to the contract, you were suppose to eat with us and play with us, practically get involved in all that we do, but…I guess Clifford didn’t like it.” Edwin said and continued eating.

“Why aren’t you like them, why did you continue eating?” I asked.

“I’m loyal to Clifford, I would have stood up but…dear, I’m feeling hungry and I must be satisfied before leaving.” He answered.

I couldn’t eat the food before me anymore, after watching Edwin eat, I stood and sauntered back to my room.

Why did he even want me here when he knows that he would keep maltreating me. And where the hell is Earl?

I wanted to run out of my room to ask Edwin, there is an high chance that he would tell me about Earl.

But to my surprise, I met Clifford walking towards my room.

Is he coming here?

Without looking at me, he walked to the room that was directly beside mine and walked in.

What? his room is right beside mine? Why did he made it that way?

I stood shocked , but still went ahead nevertheless to meet and ask Edwin about Earl.

“Earl has been suspended for disrespecting Clifford, if Clifford can suspend his own brother, then who are you? My advise; Be careful around Clifford.” Having said that, he waddled away.
