Chapter 2

Alma.

Jennifer sighted me crying beside the bulding and ran to me.

She sat beside me and before I could even tell her what happened, she bursted into a loud cry.

After we had both cried, we relaxed.

“I know he would find out and embarrass you, was that what happened?” She asked me.

“I exposed my identity already but that was after he chose me as his dancer. I let out.

” Congratulations!” She screamed happily.

“I think he would call for another dancer’s context, he would definitely not want me to be his dancer for any reason, remember what happened the last time I stepped his shoe? Clifford hates me so much and I know” I lamented bitterly.

Alma was quiet for a while before speaking; “Did he chase you out or you walked out yourself?”

“Huh! Am I suppose to wait till he chase me out? He was already embarrassing me believing I have so much germs on my body.” I explained to Jennifer.

“Your skill is outstanding, give him time. If he realizes that he can not do without your skill, he will send for you.” Jennifer said and dragged me up.

As I stood, I turned to Jennifer pathetically and said; “But there are better dancers than me, why do you think he may not be able to do without my skill?”

“There may be better dancers than you but no one in this world dance in the exact same way that you do.” She said.

I nodded and felt encouraged, maybe in the future, Clifford would really send for me.

Edwin.

I watched the poof girl walked out of the stage, I recognized her to the girl that made Clifford angry last week Tuesday when she stepped on his shoe, What ordersity does she even have to apply for his context?

Clifford who had just watched the poor girl left turned angrily to David; his manager and said; “If not because you have being with me for years, I would have ordered that you should be fired.”

“Clifford! be calm.” David said and walked to him.

He does not look scared at all.

“The next context is holding in two weeks time, we did not have time at all… Are you interested in her skill or her status?” David asked.

“Organize another contest immediately.’ Clifford said and went to sit.

He rested his head on his palm.

” No.” David answered and went to sit beside him.

“I’m your manager and I know what is best for this band, organizing a contest will take another one week leaving you with one week, are you insinuating that a week is enough to practice with your dancer?” David asked.

“Brother, I think you should listen to Bob. We need her skills not her status…it’s too late to organize another context!” Earl, the most gentle amidst us said.

“David, Organize another contest.” Clifford insisted.

“Fine, if it’s what you want!” David said an walked out.

Those present with me knew better not to utter a word.

A week later, we were in the same hall sitting as the judge for another dance context.

Many ladies participated but Clifford didn’t like any of their dancing skills.

After the contest was over, he lowered his head sadly to the desk.

“Clifford, we have six days left after today, should we still let Alma out of this?” David asked.

Clifford raised his head after a while and said; “I can’t have anything to do with poor people, is that too hard to understand?

Clifford walked out and we followed him.

Two days to the final context, Clifford hasn’t got a dancer still.

Clifford was at the sitting room staring at the television that was displaying the video song of one of his songs that he would be performing in two days time.

Earl, Elmer, Harold and I walked to join him at the living room

Before we could even talk, Clifford said; ” I don’t want to believe David has sent you to try to convince me about that poor girl?” He threw the question up in the air for all of us.

“Not at all.” Earl answered. “Clifford, we only want to know how we would be performing without a dancer in the next two days, don’t you think no matter how best we sing, we still wouldn’t win.”

“If I did not win…it will hurt but I love that compared to performing with that poor girl.” Clifford said adamantly.

“Fine.” Earl stood. “I hope you also know that if we lose this time, our fan base will keep decreasing and the bands in our favour will start switching to our competitor.”

We all walked away from him.

It was finally the day of the context, our competitor; Stanley and his beautiful bands had already performed and they were leading all other bands with 40 points.”

We were the last band to perform.

Clifford held the microphone and began to sing, while we parted the songs, few minutes into our performance, a female dancer suddenly joined us and began to dance perfectly to our song.

The cheers amidst the crowd increased, Clifford was stunned at the increase in the shouts of crowds in our support, Clifford turned at the same time I turn to see who the strange dancer was.

Behold, it was Alma.
