Chapter 34

Unugwa

Me: so why did you get a Maid pregnant Anibe?

He chuckled and placed his second hand on the wheel.
Anibe : I didn’t have sex with her. She’s just trying to pin me down with something I didn’t do

Me: why would she do that if you didn’t have sex with her?

Anibe : cause she thinks I don’t know the difference between her and the other maid. The two of them look alike so much. I slept with the other girl and not her. Though, I played with her

He winked at me and I scoffed
Me: you’re putting yourself in trouble. Learn how to control yourself

Anibe : I was doing all that for fun.
Me: I overheard the maid talking with her mother in town. The pregnancy isn’t yours. They’re even scared dad would demand for a DNA test

Anibe : did you tell dad
Me: well he’s still angry with you. He refused to say anything about the news
Anibe : I won’t come back home, I know that’s what he wants. But I will apologize

Me: so you’re gonna stay on your own now?
He nodded and I smiled, not because I was happy but because I imagined the burnt offerings he would be offering to his stomach everyday

Anibe: don’t worry. I’ll learn how to cook, but for now I’m eating out

I laughed out
Me: you read my mind
Anibe : and I ain’t bringing no girl home. It’s time to prove old pappy wrong

Me: dad ain’t that old
Anibe : he’s 47. That’s old. He’s 27 years older than me

Me : and that’s because he got married early. What if he decided to wait till he’s thirty five. How old would you be?

He chuckled and licked his lower lip. This handsome guy, would he ever stop being a player?

He parked the car in front of an apartment building. We were already in the main town.

Me: you live here?
Anibe : yeah. Last floor. All the way up

Me: is it a penthouse?
We got out of the car

Anibe : not really. It’s actually a three roomed apartment with two toilets and a kitchen plus a living room

Me: it’s a penthouse
Anibe : it’s not a penthouse kid sister, it’s just an apartment

He patted my head like I was a five year old he just gave candy. I pouted and held his hand as we went in through the lobby. We took the elevator to the last floor and walked to his door. He opened it and we entered

Me: not bad for a twenty year old who made his mom and sister cry after running off

Anibe : what? Mom cried?
He was surprised.

Me: yeah. Grandma kept consoling her

Anibe : God! I feel bad
I looked at his face and laughed. Mama’s boy

Me: she’s okay now. But angry with you. She could eat you up

He chuckled and threw his key on the table.
There was a big couch in the middle of the room and in front was a wide glass table.
The floor was white and sparkling. There was a huge TV at the front and at the far end was a breakfast bar surrounded by tall red stools. The breakfast bar itself was Red.
Behind that was the kitchen. It was medium sized

He walked to the fridge behind the side of the bar and brought out two juice boxes. He threw one to me and I caught it and sat on one of the stools

Anibe : so… When did my little girl get a boyfriend?

I chuckled and poked open the box with a straw.

Me: I’m not that little
Anibe : that’s what they would always say. They’re not too small.

He huffed and stared at me. I laughed
He stood by the other side and faced me

Anibe: so you guys really started dating?
Me: yeah
I faced him, ready to hear whatever he has to say

Anibe : is he treating you right? You know, Ken and Barbie

I chuckled
Me: well, he’s treating me right. Like the sweet boyfriend he is
Anibe : you guys are cute together. But don’t let him do anything silly. If he tries it, tell me. I’ll turn him to a eunuch

I burst out laughing
Me: OH please. You’re the one who’s to be a eunuch
Anibe : hey, I’ve repented. I’m not bringing it out unless I wanna use a bathroom

Me: yuck!
Anibe : maybe I should mind my words too

Me: yeah you should
Anibe : so tell me about Andy

I pouted
Me: no. You’re gonna steal him away from me

Anibe : don’t make me become gay and actualize that

Me: haha
Anibe : so, when did you guys first kiss?
Me: At school, on Tuesday morning

Anibe : who made the first move? Andy right? Cause I know you just can’t

Me: you’re crazy
I kicked his head with my fingers. He chuckled and sipped his drink

Me: so how did you get Andy’s number?
Anibe : he’s my buddy. Just a year older than him

Me: that’s not my question
Anibe: but that’s the answer to your question. How do you think guys of the same age bracket get their numbers?

I shrugged.
Andy and Daniel are both nineteen years though Daniel is older with seven months or so. That reminds me, I need to call Daniel. Gosh!

I brought out my phone
Me: I need to call Daniel
Anibe : it’s night time over there Unugwa, he should be sleeping. Just text him then call him at night, when he’s awake

I nodded and texted him
📩hi Daniel. You forgot about me so quick? Not even one text from you. That’s not fair. Anyway I just wanted to hear from you. I hope you’re okay? How’s USA? Be a good boy okay. I’ll call you in few hours. Bye

I sent it and dropped the phone

Me: anything a kid sister can eat?
Anibe : let me make some burritos

I choked on the drink I just sipped. I began to cough and he stood there laughing

Anibe : okay, I’ll just go order some French fries and cold milk shakes

Me: bet…better…
Anibe : haha

Daniel

I stared at the ceiling after reading her text that woke me up. I couldn’t sleep anymore. Truth be told I missed her. I wanted her company again

I sat up and went through the text again. I replied

📩thanks Unugwa. I’ll be expecting your call

I dropped the phone and stood up. It’s 4am in the morning. It should be 4pm there cause it’s a day behind USA in the Philippines

I did my morning exercises for the next two hours and got ready for the day. Manager Sam had booked a match for me, 9am today at a government boxing gym.

I ordered breakfast and ate then went to my own gym. No one knew it was mine still and I wasn’t thinking of telling anyone

When I got to the gym, I saw someone trying to steal a small pair of barbells. I crossed my arms and watched him. He thought no one was looking and two people were even in the gym already

He opened his big bag and kept them in

Me: I almost wish I didn’t see that
I yelled at him

He looked at me and chuckled
Guy: yeah, you didn’t see anything.
He picked the bag and walked towards the door

I grabbed his hand
Me: put those back
Guy: dude, let go of my arm

Me: don’t get me angry
He chuckled
Guy: and what if you get angry. What are you gonna do?

I smirked and released him

Me: return those
He looked around. He punched my stomach. I groaned and bent down. He tried to quickly run out but he wasn’t too swift because the barbells were heavy though they were the small ones

I grabbed his hand and twisted it. He yelped and I pulled him back

The two guys ran to us and pulled us apart. Roque was the guy holding me

Guy: what the f**k is your damn problem? Stop acting like a saint. You don’t own this place

He stood up with the bag on the floor. He wanted to fight and I could see that

Just then Sam came in. He shuddered because they all knew Sam was the manager

Me: that’s where you’re wrong. I own this place

Guy: what

Me: Sam, call the police to get this guy out of here. He just stole something

Guy: you don’t have any proof.

Me: Sam I thought I had you put in some security cameras in here yesterday

Sam: yes sir I did

Roque : Sir? Are you serious? You own this place?

I looked at the guy who stole. I sighed and left to the office.

These Americans are bloody bastards

Andy

I was looking through Ugwa’s pictures with me in my phone. I kept smiling
I had them transferred this morning because I wanted to use one as my wallpaper

I got a text from Ugwa, thanking me for helping her with her brother. I had replied her ‘it’s nothing baby. I just want my girlfriend to be happy’

I licked my lips as I finally chose a beautiful picture for my wallpaper

Mom: Andy why are you smiling that much?

She dropped a bowl of sliced apples in milk in front of me

Me: nothing mom
I smiled and dropped the phone. I was sitting at the dinning table
She stood beside me and took my phone.

Mom: what? Andy what is this?
She was staring into the phone with piercing eyes. If she was Nora Thunderman, then my phone would be in a molten state now

And why did she carry the phone in the first place?

Mom: isn’t this the black girl I said you should stay away from? Why is she your wallpaper?

I chuckled and I think that got her even angrier

Me: she’s a friend

Mom: what? A black person is your friend? Andrew!
She drew my ear

Me: ouch! That hurts!

She then slapped me. Man! She’s serious. I stood up

Mom: stay away from her. Stay away from her!

Me: what’s your problem with black people?
Mom: they’re cheats

Me: that’s racism
Mom: shut up Andy! You don’t know anything!

Me: give me my phone back
She swiped on it and must have gone to my gallery. I forgot mom knew my password APPLES

Mom : idiot! You took so many pictures with her! This isn’t ordinary. What is going on between the both of you

I sighed

She slapped me
Mom: tell me!

Me: I love her
Mom: what? Andy!

Her face turned teary. Now she’s taking this too far

Mom: are you courting her? Because these pictures are way out of ordinary

I huffed
Me: of course I am. I love her mom and I won’t let your prejudice against black people stop me from loving her

And another slap on my cheek. That’s the third one and my cheek feels hot and red.

Mom: don’t you dare use that tone on me! Stay away from that witch or I’ll help you do that

Me: mom you’re taking this too far

She threw my phone against the wall, smashing it.

Dad came in

Dad: what’s going on here?
Mom: it’s your stupid son. He’s courting a stupid black girl. Way beyond his league

Dad: Andrew, is that true?

I didn’t answer

Mom: tell your son to stop doing a foolish thing and stop throwing your name into the mud

Dad: so you’re going out with a poor street girl?

Okay, they’re getting it all wrong. Maybe they think Ugwa is one of those random African kids who smuggle their way into other countries to see drugs or prostitute.

Me: dad you’re getting it wrong. She’s actually a…

Dad: enough of all these. You, do away with her. And you, stop boiling and go upstairs

Mom heaved a sigh and left
He faced me

Dad: so you’re now into drugs Andy?
His teeth was gritted

Me: dad I’m not
Dad: then how did you meet her to the extent of falling for her!

I moved backwards

Dad: get rid of that stupid thing you say. Or I’ll find the girl and get rid of her myself

Me: one thing is for sure. I love Ugwa and I’m not breaking up with her because of selfish parents who don’t care about their son’s happiness

That’s it, the glass bowl of apples and milk hit my face and I fell

He made a phone call right there

Dad: Reno, go to St Andrews High School and find out who goes by the name Ugwa. A black girl and bring her to me today

He hung up and left. They’re not getting this at all
