Chapter 17

Uguwa

I froze when he brought it to my mouth. I thought he was gonna eat it.

Andy: open up

My eyes widened. He’s going to feed me? What brought that idea? Should I open up? Or should I shove it back to him?

As if he heard my thoughts, he chuckled and took the spoon to his mouth instead. My heart came down, at the same time it felt sad. I wanted to take it

Andy: banana flavor? Wow
He took another spoon and I smiled

Me: its my favorite
He smiled and took another spoon

Andy: banana or banana flavor
Me: I love both

The shop owner came to our table

SO: I see he’s consuming what he did not order

I chuckled

Andy: Uncle, I never knew banana flavor was this tasty

SO : that’s because you always stick with apple, not wanting to taste anything else

Me: uncle?
They looked at me

Both: yeah
SO: he’s my cousin’s son
Andy: he’s my dad’s cousin

Me: wow, that’s nice

SO: I should get you another one right
He was talking to me. Before I could answer Andy did

Andy: we need two more. Banana and apple

His Uncle smiled and left.

Me: so you usually come here?
He nodded and continued eating my ice cream

Me: cake?
I lifted it up

He took it, opened it and used the spoon to cut a piece

Andy : open up
Me: no.. You open up

He opened his mouth and I took the spoon and dropped the cake in. I thought he wouldn’t take it but surprisingly he did.

The man came with the ice-cream and two more cakes. Andy thanked him in Cebuano and their began to say something that I couldn’t grab.

Andy laughed and looked at me then looked at his Uncle again and said another thing. The man laughed, patted his shoulder then turned to me

Shop owner: enjoy
I smiled and he left to attend to a family that just came in. Two girls were already behind the counter and were wearing orange tops. Must be the sales girls

Andy was still smiling

Andy

Goodwill came back and dropped the cans on the table

Me: thank you
I said that in Cebuano

Goodwill: your girlfriend is really pretty. How did you manage to get a black girl? Is she here for studies?

Me: come on Goodwill, she’s not my girlfriend.

Goodwill: but you two are here on a date?
Me: no. I don’t even know that she would come here

Goodwill : ahh you’re trying to fool me. You two are wearing the same colors. Plus you’ve been here since and you didn’t order anything. She came and ordered then came to you. And you started eating her ice-cream. I saw her feeding you

I looked at him in awe. His reasons look real. I burst out laughing and so did he

Me: she’s not my girlfriend
Goodwill : but you two are compatible

I looked at her face and smiled then looked back at him
Me: maybe

Goodwill: ahh bad boy..
He laughed, patted my shoulder and looked at her then spoke in English

Goodwill: enjoy
He left

Me: come on take this
I pushed the banana flavor to her and she took it and opened it

Me: open up
She looked up to see a spoon filled with ice-cream in front of her face

Ugwa: whoa
Me: don’t whoa. Open up
She opened her mouth and I fed her

We later finished the ice-cream. I gave her the apple flavor to take home. It was already late

Me: how are you gonna get home?
Ugwa: I’ll just call my brother now

I nodded but then held her hand as she brought the phone out

Me: let me just drop you off
Ugwa : no you don’t have to
Me: you kept me company… Let me return the favor by taking you home

Ugwa : okay then
I left her hand and we walked to my car. I opened the door for her but had an idea

Me: wait. Let’s take a picture

I brought out my camera
Ugwa : you have a digital camera?

I nodded
Ugwa : oh I forgot. Loretta told me you loved photography

I smiled. Trust Loretta to give out information.

I drew her beside me and chuckled
Me: I’m so short..
Ugwa : better be a good boy. Short boys are respectful

I smiled and took a picture with the camera. I looked at it

Me: another one?
She stood by my left and made the victory sign ✌. I took the picture and smiled. I showed her

Ugwa : it’s pretty
She nodded in agreement. I opened the door again and she entered. I went through the other side and entered too. Just as I started the car, she looked at my arm. The sleeve had coiled up on its own and a bit of purple was visible on my white skin

Ugwa : Andy, are you injured?
She proceeded to pull up the rest of the sleeve. That ignited pain. I winced and jerked the hand. She quickly looked at me

Ugwa : I’m sorry
I looked at the hand that was stinging me. I gently pulled the sleeve over it

Me: it’s nothing serious
Ugwa : you had a home accident?

I nodded and looked at her
Me: I fell

Ugwa : sorry about that. Is that why you didn’t come to school?

Me:kinda

Ugwa : I asked Loretta about you. I was surprised you weren’t in school

My brow furrowed
She asked about me? Wow. That’s caring

Me: thanks.. We should get going

I moved the car and we drove off.

When I reached her house I was so surprised. Really surprised that she lived in the mansion. I didn’t show my surprise though. So she’s the daughter of the foreigner? I should have known

Ugwa : thanks Andy
I flashed a smile and her next action froze me. She pecked my cheek. I managed to smile at her as she came out of the car

She waved and went to the gate.

I smiled as I drove out.

That was a fun night

Unugwa
I went inside and kissed my grandma’s cheeks. Anibe was seated in front of her and his face was in a frown. Is grandma scolding him? Maybe she has seen piercing though he’s not wearing the earring anymore.

Me: where’s mom?
Grandma : she’s upstairs with your father
Me: okay then. I’ll change and come back

Anibe : what’s in the nylon? You brought ice-cream?

Me: byeee
I said sarcastically and ran upstairs to my room. I changed and took the ice-cream. It was a bit melted. Not too melted though. It was like jam. I took it and laid on bed.

I reminisced the early events. Andy is so fun to be with. How did Daniel grow to hate him so much. They’re both nice people. It would be fun to see them as best friends. They fit it

I like Andy. He’s a cutie. Really cute. He made my tummy tumble today when he fed me.

I smiled as I opened the lid of the ice-cream. I took a spoon. This tastes good. Andy’s favorite flavor is apple

I hugged my pillow and imagined taking more pictures with Andy. It would be fun. So fun

I heard a voice clearing behind me. I looked to see Anibe

Anibe : little sis is imagining something suspicious

Me: what?
He sat down
Anibe: that look. I’ve seen it before. Tell me why you’re smiling at the ice-cream

Me: nothing I…
Anibe : uh-huh… Don’t tell me nothing. Babe, what’s behind that smile?

I kept quiet

Anibe : should I tell you how I’d interpret the smile if it was from another girl?

Me: how?

He laid down beside me and looked at the ceiling

Anibe : she just got fucked and men the d**k was so good

I screamed and began to hit him while he laughed

Me: seriously. Stop saying such things when with me

I was really serious. They irritate me so much.

Anibe: sorry. But that’s the interpretation. That smile.

I scoffed and ate my ice-cream. It’s funny he’s not dragging it with me

Anibe : you’re not gonna talk? Tell me..
He poked his finger in my side and I chuckled and shifted

Me: I’m just thinking about Andy
Anibe: the cute guy.. Hmm tell me more
He laid on his belly and took the ice-cream from me

Me: I met him at the ice-cream shop. He was just sitting there so I joined him. We talked and… talked

Anibe : so why were you smiling like that?

Me: because I thought it was a fun night

He smiled
Anibe : you like anything about him?

I see where this idiot is going.. I rolled my eyes and didn’t reply

Anibe : I know he’s cute. He has sexy lips. Has beautiful eyes that can melt down any girl. Has the sexiest voice ever

Me: awwwn
Okay, I do not know how that came out

Anibe laughed and I covered my face in shame.

Anibe : you have a crush on him?
Me: what? No! Not yet
Anibe : wow. Not yet. But you might

Me: no way. I.. I can’t. Daniel hates that guy

Anibe : but you don’t. In fact you like him

Me: well maybe I like him. But definitely not what you’re thinking

Anibe : okay. I surrender

Me: he even bought the ice-cream for me

Anibe: what and you’re letting me eat it?

He dropped the spoon and pushed the can to me

Me: hey
Anibe: he bought it for you. What if there’s a love potion. I don’t want to fall in love with a boy that’s meant for my sister

I glared at him as he laughed and stood up, leaving the room.

I called Unugwa to ask about dad’s partnership.
She picked up almost immediately

📲hello Unugwa
📲HI Daniel. I called you yesterday but it wasn’t reachable
📲I’m sorry. I went to bed early. I turned it off
📲and why weren’t you in school today?
📲I had an important match
📲how was the match?
📲it was fine. I won
📲congrats dear

I smiled
📲thanks. So did you talk to your dad about the partnership?
📲yeah, I did. He promised to get a contract between the two companies
📲wow. Your dad is a man of his words. He already partnered with my dad
📲really. That’s great news
📲thank you Unugwa
📲you’re welcome Daniel
📲so what have you been up to?
📲I just came back from an ice-cream shop
📲really?
📲yeah I’ll call you later. I have to do something
📲okay then. Take care
📲bye

I hung up and dropped the phone on my table. I sat on the bed and racked my fingers through my hair. I was really tired.
My door opened and dad walked in

Dad: Daniel
Me: dad

He grinned
Dad: I have something for you
Me: what’s that

He brought out some keys on a key holder and shoved it towards me

Me: keys?
He nodded and I took them

Dad: those are the keys to your new gym. A commercial gymnasium in Los Angeles, California. It has five boxing rings, about a hundred chairs and all the equipment needed in a gym.

I looked at dad trying to dilute his words

Dad: also get your documents ready, you’ll be leaving for the USA soon to pursue your career in Los Angeles.
