THREE YEARS EARLIER

My eyes twinkled in confusion still trying to collect the facts here.

Van hasn’t fully lost his mind to actually stop me from leaving the country. That wouldn’t be possible. He’s a sensible man and doing that would make him insane.

“Tell me you weren’t responsible for what happened.”

“Of course I’m responsible. If I hadn’t Kept tabs on you, I wouldn’t know you tried to board a plane, you would be halfway around the world by now or something.”

“That’s the frigging point Van. I’m trying to get as far away from you as humanly possible. Don’t you understand, the more I get close to you, the more problems arise. Do you even feel any sense of remorse for cheating on your fiance. If you don’t, I sure as hell do. I can’t Van, I can’t anymore. Just leave me alone.”

I got up with my suitcase about to leave. He tugged at my hand and stopped me.

“You can go home but one thing is for sure Elena, you’re not leaving the country under my watch. You’ll always belong to me so I’m keeping you close.”

I flung his arm away and walked out angrily.

PRESENT TIME

I started walking as far as my feets could carry me which wasn’t far with my shoes. I would have sore feets and a few blisters for sure but I didn’t really care. I just wanted to get away. From everything, everyone.

After years of running, the past still catches up to me. It might even be worse this time and sadly, there’s nothing I can do about it.

Jenny and Justin might just be talking about Mr O’Cornner. I just let my mind run wide for stupid possibilities probably out of boredom or there’s the obvious answer. I tried to find a problem where there’s none to escape mine. That’s definately for sure. It seemed crazy but that’s the truth at this point.

I checked my G.P.S for the distance left before I get home. Thankfully, it wasn’t that far anymore.

Feeling drained already, I tried to quicken my steps to get there sooner. I had a one way ticket with my bed and my pillow.

Thankfully, I noticed farmilar surroundings. It was late but I was almost home.

I got my keys out and quickly unlocked the door walking in. I kicked my shoes off but the lights came on by themselves staring me to death.

“What the….”

“Mr O’Cornner?”

I gulped staring at him in my living room. I just have to ask, what is it with billionaires and breaking into my house.
