Roses And Thorns – Episode 6

CHAPTER SIX

By Jennifer Godwin

It was three days already since the death of his fiance and he didn’t still know where to start from in getting the culprit. He had gotten a negative reply from the forensic department. Everything was just stressing him out, his ex fiance’s parents were on his neck too saying they didn’t want a simple burial for their daughter, they said it must be one in town but then he wondered if they were happy that their daughter died.

He drove while his mind wandered around. He drove towards okponam Nnebuisi road and met with a heavy gridlock, he hissed out of frustration and then beckoned on a young boy hawking sachet water, he knew there was a shortcut out of the gridlock but he had forgotten.

“Good morning oga, the water is very cold” the hawker said almost pushing his bowl of water in his (Joel’s) car.

“No my dear, i don’t want to buy water, there is this untarred road that can lead someone out of this place but i have forgotten” he said.

“Okay oga, you mean that road that leads to that ghetto area, are you sure you can stand the smell?.” the boy said in correct English.

“Yes, am just passing through and besides my glasses will be wined up” he said.

“Okay na, just drive straight a little, the first untarred road by the right, just pass through it”

“Okay, thanks” he said and gave him a thousand naira note.

He got to the metro bus stop and drove into the street with his glasses wined up. He shook his head and wondered how the residents of that area survive such dirty environment. He drove slowly and got to refuse dump site, he looked through his car window and saw her, she wasn’t just fair in complexion, she was yellow just like his ex fiance. He wondered what she was doing at a dump site.

The stalker got to the psychiatric hospital, he inhaled the air before stepping into the compound, he met the receptionist and made entry on who he wanted to see, he left for the male ward, entered the first room and clapped his hands to announce his arrival.

“My oh my, brother of life, how are you doing?” he asked in mockery.

“What are you doing here?, you think you have won right?, don’t worry, i will soon get out of here and i will send you to your doom” the sick patient replied.

“easy bro, that is if you ever leave this place, look at your hands and legs bound in chains and you still believe you would get out someday? that is just so laughable” he gave a short laugh.

“You can laugh all you want mad man, your end is near, the blood of the innocent ladies you killed will surely haunt you” he screamed.

“Everyone thinks you are the mad one here, but you just called me a mad man.” he scoffed “you are the mad one for believing that those dead ladies will come back to haunt me, who still believes in such myth”

“Get out, leave this place now” he screamed loudly. a doctor rushed into the room with injection in his hand.

“Give him the injection doctor, i think his madness is getting out of hand.” the stalker smirked.

The sick patient got injected with tears strolling down his cheeks he closed his eyes and slept off.

“Please doctor, continue giving the injections, am not seeing any improvement” the stalker said while following the doctor out of the room.
