BELIEVE – Episode 1

His throat went dry and his head got spinning as he held the letter in his hand.
“I don’t understand sir, how did this happen? I mean what wrong have I done?” Peter asked with his eyes bulged out like its gonna pull out from its socket.
“I am so sorry, my company has been suffering from setbacks and I have to relieve some staff off duty, but if things works out fine I will call you back,” his Boss replied.
“Sir you didn’t have…”
“This is difficult for me too, I hope you’ll get a better job. Bye Mr Peter,” his Boss dropped and Peter nodded slowly going out of his office.
So many thoughts came to his mind, he just engaged Rachel 2 weeks ago and he was planning to get married to her as soon as possible.
He has been laid off from his job and its like its not going to be as he planned. Looking at the situation of the country, getting a job now its a hot cake and based on connection.
He was so lucky he got employed there after staying 3 good years at home after his service, now what? He’s back to the scratch again.
The thought of the stress and worries he’s going to go through to get a job again made his countenance sour as he stepped into the house.
“Baby what’s wrong?” Rachel met with him but he only showed her the envelope and fell freely on the couch.
She slowly took it from him and read every line of it then looked at him when she was done, “is that why you’re worried?” Rachel asked cleaning the sweats that piled up on his face.
“I am doomed, but why now? I wasn’t expecting such now,” Peter said.
“Is there any fixed time for anybody to expect such? Even if it happens tomorrow you will still say same, so don’t worry okay,” Rachel said holding his hand.
“We were about to get married remember? I dreamt of our wedding to be special,” Peter calmly said.
“And no one said its not going to be special because I see, I believe in you and I know you will get over this and we won’t remember such happened okay,” Rachel said and he sighed.
“Yea I know you are always there to encourage me but for once Rachel let’s face reality. I spent my savings on mom surgery, there’s nothing to start up with and that’s the problem. Maybe I’ll go ask for loan and set up a business,” Peter said and Rachel raised her brows and he rolled his eyes.
“Yea I know what you want to say because….because the last time you tried, it went down the drain, but baby that was then and it was your first time in business. Now you have experience and things won’t be the way it was before. I know you can do this,” Rachel said and Peter smiled and touched her face.
“What did I ever do that God gave me you? Peter asked.
“I don’t know, now you have to get up from here, have a shower and get something to eat,” Rachel said dragging him up.
“Okay you didn’t say anything about the loan?” Peter asked.
“Yea that’s right, because I won’t let you do that, Rachel said and Peter eyes bulged out.
“How on earth do you want me to get money? Peter asked throwing his hands on air.
“Get a job, it must not be an office or company job just start some where. You can teach in secondary school and I’ll get you one,” Rachel said.
“How long will I teach to gather enough money to start my own business? Will you wait for me?” Peter asked.
“Of course I will, what are you thinking? Oh please go shower first,” Rachel said pushing him to go have his shower.

The next day Peter met with his colleague who was laid off too, they shared their grievances towards the situation.
“How are you going to do man? You were about getting married, will she wait?” His colleague asked.
“I was once worried about that but then she said i shouldn’t worry because she’ll wait for me,” Peter said and his colleague scoffed.
“Women are bitches. You know why I’m not married till now is only because of experience. I once had this lady who acted like she’ll never leave me for anything in the world, but then she came across cool cash and forgot about me. You really think you can make a woman happy without money?” His colleague asked.
“Rachel is different,” Peter slowly said.
“Yea that’s what we always say when the love is hot and sweet, your ship hasn’t hit the rock yet man,” his colleague said forcing a smile while Peter stood speechless not knowing what to believe.
“But you don’t have to worry, Rachel may be different as you said, His colleague said tapping him on his shoulder.
“What if you’re right? The situation here is not easy for me, for once in my life after a long time I feel helpless, I don’t know what to do,” Peter said.
“What exactly did Rachel say to you about this? His colleague asked.
“She said she believes in me that I will get through this,” Peter replied.
“Then I think you should believe in yourself first. If you’re already feeling helpless, what do you think Rachel will do? She will never wait for you,” his colleague dropped and Peter stood shock.
