Kate moved back and forth as she checked her watch. Where is he? She gritted her teeth. It was now getting dark and they had agreed to meet up but he wasn’t nowhere to be seen. She hated to be kept waiting.

“Am i late?” Hunter asked behind her.

“Yeah,” she answered annoyed. “Let’s get going. You’re riding in the trunk.”

Hunter didn’t say anything. He walked round the car as she followed him. She watched him open the trunk, get into it and before she could close it, she said, “Have you heard anything from Ludo today?”

“No,” he responded looking up. “I bet she’s fine. The less we hear from her, the safer she is.”

“But i need to know where that Stone is.”

“You will, let’s get going. You’re not the only one after someone.”

She slammed the trunk in his face and walked back to the drivers door. She got in and started the car driving to the Patels. She had one final report to make to the administration about the ordeal that had befallen the family. They were expecting her.

Driving into the yard, she saw some guards and a few people who had come to the funeral of the old man. She was checked and cleared. She drove to the last parking slot where no one could see her getting Hunter out of the trunk.

“I am going to the main house now. Whatever you do, you are on your own now. If you will manage to get out you can or you can come back to the trunk and I’ll drive you out but that better be when I’m done.”

Hunter was on his knees and looking around. He saw the house she’d told him about. Where the main operations seemed to be taking place from. He told her she needn’t worry about him but go take care of her business. She walked back to the car while he crawled his way to the house.

Kate could feel her heart pounding as she went back to the drivers seat to grab some things. She reached for her handbag and her phone rang. It was Ludo.

“Ludo,” she answered.

“Where is Hunter?” Ludo asked.

Kate looked at the darkness Hunter had disappeared into. “Going for Devi.”

“Damn. My boss has texted me a location and it seems like that’s where Stone is.”

“Where are you?”

“Driving there now.”

“No Ludo, it’s dangerous. Wait for me. Are you alone?”

“I am with Caesar.”

She figured it was the gentleman Ludo was with yesterday. “Wait for me.”

“You will find us,” Ludo hang up the phone.

Kate was torn between going into the house to report or go and find The murderer. She chose the former. She knew Hunter was a big boy and would take care of himself. She quickly got into her car and drove out of the yard.

Caesar tried Lance’s number again but it was off. “How can he send a location and switch off his phone?”

Ludo received the location ping on whatsapp from Lance when they were being cozy with Caesar. It had been a perfect day. At least it had taken their minds off some things and just as they were about to get more cozy, the ping was received. What poor timing from Lance, Caesar was annoyed but he got more worried when they tried calling Him and his phone was off.

“You think it’s the location for Stone?” Ludo asked Caesar.

“I think so.”

“He assured us last night that today he would come up with something. I’m sure it is.”

Caesar drove into Kafue road and stepped on the gas.

Earlier that day, Erica had received a call from the person she least expected, her mother Elise Hamuumbu. It had been years since they last talked. She became nervous when she heard her voice.

“What a way to talk to my only daughter,” Elise said.

“What do you want mom?”

Elise sighed relief. “I don’t know what hurts the most,” she paused. “Knowing that my only grand daughter is named after me and no one thought of telling me about it or knowing that you formed an alliance with your father?”

“Jean insisted on giving our daughter your name and if it’s about working with dad, i am an adult mom. Haven’t we always been working as a family?”

“That man killed your brother.”

“Like you are any different. Have you forgotten why you are in prison?”

Elise didn’t say anything.

“What do you want? You want to send your condolences?”

“Condolences for who?”

“Your husband.”

Elise laughed out loud. “You got to be kidding me.”

“Mom this is not funny.”

“Your father is not dead. With your intelligence, i thought you had deciphered that. For a man who faked being paralyzed for so many years, you ought to know.”

“What are you implying?”

“Your father faked his death to escape prison. He’s well and alive. He even killed Mr. Patel to get back his companies.”

“You’re lying.”

“Baby girl, i am too old for lies. Have you confirmed the body at the morgue?”

Erica hesitated to answer.

“I take that you haven’t. Your father is a trickster,” she snorted.

“How do you know all this?”

“Just this six years away from me and you have forgotten me. I am Elise. Just because i am in prison doesn’t mean i don’t keep tabs on all of you. Stay away from your father. Tell Evan too. Live your lives. Don’t be caught up in his games.”

“I don’t believe you mom. Dad is dead.”

Elise sighed, “Write this address down.”

Erica wrote down the address.

“Say hi to my baby Evan, tell him to get back on his feet. I wasn’t impressed at all with how pathetic his life has been.”

“He’s doing much better now.”

“That’s great to hear. You’re now the lioness of the family. Take care of your brother and your family. We women are stronger than our men even though they can’t accept that. You should bring my grandchild to see me once in a while, me and her have no problems.”

Erica felt a lump forming on her throat. She loved her mother and wanted to tell her that but she couldn’t.

“Please!”

“Bye mom.”

“Goodbye sweetheart.”

Erica couldn’t believe what had just been said by her mother. If it was true, then she was used by her father to have Mr. Patel killed. She felt her stomach mumble. She knelt down thinking about the pain she had brought upon Naveen. This had to end, she told herself. Her father had to be stopped.

“What’s wrong?” Evan entered the room.

“You won’t believe what i have just learned.”

“Try me.”

“Let’s go to the police station. I will tell you on the way.”

Evan didn’t bother argue with his sister but followed her. He watched her say goodbye to Jean and her daughter Elise. He waved them goodbye and off they left the hotel to the police station.

Standing behind the door, Hunter heard voices coming from the house. One voice he so wanted to hear, he couldn’t. He only hoped he was here because that would be a bummer. He found his way into the house getting into the first room. He crawled to the table and waited. Some two men came into the room and after having a chit chat, they walked out. He got out of under the table and crawled into the next room where he found a lot of tables and some documents on them. There were also some chairs. The room had doors leading to some other rooms. Hunter heard voices and he carefully dived under the last table.

He heard footsteps accompanied with a conversation coming towards the room he was in. Finally, Devi had come. This is the least place he expected Hunter to be that when he came out of under the bed, he was shaken to the core. He couldn’t even get a word out of his mouth when he saw him.

“Cat got your tongue?” Hunter stepped forward.

“Who is this man? What are you doing here?” the other man asked.

“Call security,” Devi finally spoke.

Before the man could run and get others, Hunter had already caught up with him and smashed his face against the wall. Devi too wanted to run but he was grabbed from the back. He quickly turned around throwing a punch across Hunter’s face. Hunter moved his head with swiftness. He grabbed Devi by his clothes and threw him on the table it broke into pieces. In pain, Devi stood up. Hunter threw a punch and Devi blocked stepping back. He grabbed a chair and threw it over to Hunter who kicked it out of his way. There was no where to run to for Devi.

As Hunter wanted to step towards Devi, he saw a figure through Devi’s eyes behind him. Quickly and urgently, Hunter turned around seeing Naveen swinging a metal rod against him which almost hit him.

“You even have the guts to show up at my house after killing my father?” Naveen yelled.

Stricken with the accusation, Hunter retreated while Naveen advanced towards him again. He threw the metal rod but Hunter got hold of it. Face to face, Naveen overpowered Hunter by kicking him in the stomach he knelt still holding the metal rod. Naveen forcefully removed it from Hunter’s hands and hit him in the face he fell to the ground.

“You must be the stupidest person alive Hunter but not for long,” Naveen threw the metal rod on the floor and moved the tables away.

“What are you talking about?” Hunter slowly got up touching his stomach.

Without answering Hunter’s question, Naveen charged towards Hunter with punches that were thrown hard. Hunter managed to block some but he got some in his face and torso. Naveen was angry and Hunter knew why but there was no chance to talk but to have him overpowered and tell him the truth.

As Naveen ran towards him, Hunter saw a broken chair on the floor. He quickly slid to hit and broke off the leg. Naveen didn’t fathom what had happened when he reached Hunter, he was hit in the leg he could swear he felt it like he had being stabbed. He got on the ground squealing in pain. When he wanted to turn, Hunter was on his back pressing the prank against his neck.

“I am not here for you Naveen!” Hunter shouted panting heavily.

“You killed my father,” Naveen cried.

“Hell No.”

“Don’t you lie to me Hunter. It was you. Who sent you?”

“Naveen, i know i don’t get along with your family but i would never ki*ll the old man. I came for Devi.”

Thinking about Devi, when Hunter tried to look where he was, he had disappeared. He pushed Naveen and looked around.

“You killed my father,” Naveen uttered gasping with his hands on the floor.

“I didn’t. You and i probably have a clue who did it.”

“Don’t turn the tables on someone. You are the one who did it.”

Hunter was frustrated with Naveens allegations. “Do what you want but i am leaving this place. I have to find Devi.”

Naveen blocked Hunter. “You know i can have you killed right here right now?”
