*HOME AWAY FROM HOME*

I kept praying to God to grant me a special place in heaven.

She got closer. Fear gripped my bones as she held my hand. She was soft from within.

She didn’t find any cause to harm me.

I felt relieved when she told me to calm down and talk to her. I told her all that happened, perhaps, she might give me some food to keep me alive.

She took me back to the bar, gave me some soap and water to wash my hands and then gave me some food and water to drink. I slept on one of the benches after eating. That was lifesaving.

It was later in the evening that she woke me up and asked that we went home together. I was scared, but I needed this help. I followed her to her house.

She had a daughter who was also a nursing mother. I’m sure that’s why she understood my plight.

I was given a room to sleep and water to bath. They were nice to live with.

They did everything humanly possible to make sure I was okay.

….but wait, there is this thing about her that I still can’t find answers to. Each time she saw me, tears dripped down her face. I’m sure I looked like a late sister or friend, or could there be more to it?

*FIRE ON THE MOUNTAIN*

I’m sure I looked like a late sister or friend, or could there be more to it?

The nine months was soon here with us. I couldn’t stand the pain. I shouted for help. Her daughter, Asantewaa couldn’t wait but go and get a cab for me to be taken to the hospital.

I delivered on our way to the hospital. Her mum came over to check on me and give me the necessary care. It was a bouncing baby boy. I named him *Aky3de*. He was handsome and hairy.

My new mum took very good care of him. All I did was to breastfeed him and sleep.

She called me one dawn when the baby was three months old. I knew my stay in the house was over. She was there with Asantewaa. What was there to be talked about?

I sat down with my hands between my thighs.

She asked that I narrate the whole story to her once again, I mean how I got pregnant and ended up on the street. Again, Asantewaa cried as I talked.

I’m sure whichever reason behind those tears would be unraveled today.

They both kept quiet and looked sad after I had finished.

“We are going to that house first thing in the morning. He can’t take us for fools”.

I was confused with this.

“…do you know I was once a member of that church? Asantewaa here used to serve them. She went through the same ordeal. That same man raped her and denied ever doing that. I’m not taking it likely this time around. I will put him where he deserves. I’ve already reported the case to the police and they will be here very early”, she said.

Really? Is that what he’s been doing all this while? He must be arrested.

*PAY BACK*

Really? Is that what he’s been doing all this while? He must be arrested.

I washed down as my new mum helped me bath “Aky3de”. The police were soon here with us. We joined them in their vehicle after we had taken breakfast.

The traffic was heavy since workers were on their way to work but because it was a police car, we managed to sail through.

We got to the house. It seemed there was no one around.

The whole place was quiet. The silence was broken when we heard someone shout for help from the house. It was the voice of a teenager.

The police quietly opened the door and searched the house. There was no one around. We got to the room where I used to sleep before I was thrown to the garage, there he was,the so called pastor trying to have his way with another young girl.

He looked all sweaty with his boxer shorts half way down when we got there.

The police grabbed him from behind and took him away. This time around, he was caught in the act so there was no way he could deny it,besides, there were pictures which could be used as evidence.

His wife was called and again, she said the husband was in a meeting at church. She was asked to come over to the police station.

She broke down in tears when the case was presented to her. Her husband found no reasons to lie to her since there were evidences .

Eno Bruwaa turned to apologise to us. We forgave her but as for her husband, he was left in police custody.

They both signed an agreement to send Asantewaa and I money at the end of each month for our upkeep.
