Human First

By Afolabi Kayode

I’m human first
Before the barricade of religion
I’m human first
Before the divide of race
I’m human first
before the wall of tribe
I’m human first
Before the fence of language
I’m human first
Before the allure of politics makes me blind to the plight of my ilks
Every other thing is a mirage
I Won’t let clans stand between my love for my kind
for we are all sons and daughters of the land
Wether black or white every human is my brother
and sister
Lets water this love so it can grow bigger
Lets make it strong like the iroko tree hence it
won’t weather this weather
I’m human first
The beat of my heart is a testament to that
Going against this will depict me as a traitor
