Chapter 19
Chief’s Mansion
Morning✓

Kyla walked into chief’s study, welcomed by litters of papers around. She heard him cursed slightly, tapping his fingers on the table just after dropping a call. “Good morning chief” she greeted, standing by the doorpost, her shoulder relaxed on a pane.

Chief only replied with his hand signalling her forward. “Morning Kyla ..huhum..” he cleared his throat while she made her way forward. “What’s the trouble about…you seem to have woken up on the wrong side of the bed chief” she snickered

He briefly sighed, holding his hands to his bald head. “Not that… though my night wasn’t pleasant to start with.” He gruff in a husky voice. She chuckled. “You should get someone to keep your bed warm then” she winked, relaxing into the armed chair opposite him.

“I could do that if I wanted…I’m in deep sh*t” he replied, sounding serious. She noticed the change in his mood
“What’s going on?”

“My men went on a mission two days ago, we gat a job from one of my clients…it’s more of grabbing a money bag from secret agent, one who works with the government. He agreed to give a fifty percent share…but what matters most is my men getting it, which they have” he explained, making her shrugged.

“So why are you troubled if the mission went successful. “It was successful, but they got cornered by unknown gun men, and were napped. One of them escaped, he got the info down to me this morning” he exhaled, rubbing his temple

“Opss..that’s bad…” She noted, not acting bothered. “Kyla…” Chief called out, raising his head up to look at her. “Yes”
“You gat to help me on this….” She rolled her eyes, getting on her feet.

“I thought you didn’t want me in your mansion in the first place, why asking me for help now” she smirked, drinking from his cup of tea. He sighed

“It’s 2 billion dollars, that’s my share. I will give you 10% share from it” he muttered, relaxing into his swivel. She scoffed. “Make it 15”

“Kyla…goodness I gat men to pay…” “Men that gat into trouble?” She asked, trying to pulling his legs. “It wasn’t their fault…come on girl, you need this money isn’t it…”

“You are trying to use that to bribe me… whatever, just get me the detailed location and how I can reach the one that escaped. I need to get Reneta ready… we’ll leave by dusk” she added, hearing him exhale before leaving the room

“I believe I can join you” Reneta jerked to Kyla’s voice as the latter entered the dinning room, walking to her table. “Yes boss” she affirmed, avoiding her eyes, as flashes of yesterday’s torture invaded her mind.

“Hope you are enjoying your stay here….?” Kyla asked, dropping her tray of food on the table, picking up a slice of bread.

“Yes boss…” Reneta replied, sipping from her cup of coffee. “This place is considered my second home…so…how was last night?” She asked, taking her unaware. Reneta paused, thinking of a better answer to give.

“You were watching isn’t it?” Kyla probed, smiling. “Huhnm…yes boss…” She stuttered, wiping her lips with a napkin, as Kyla’s eyes peered into hers. “You dwelt well with him boss…he deserves it. Though, I was expecting you to just finish him up…why do you decide to still keep him alive” she asked, confidently this time. Kyla smirked

“I love your confidence Reneta, and I want more of it. You will know of that soon…but for now, we gat a mission to run at dusk. Make sure you get ready, and meet me in my room by 12pm…I will put you through the plan…okay?” She noted.
“Yes boss”

“Ok..let’s eat… you’re sure your bread is enough…you need to eat a lot, you might not get to eat during the mission…” She chuckled, adding jam to the bread. Reneta smiled out

“Here…have some more…stuff your stomach dear” “Thank you boss” Reneta appreciated, taking a bite from it, her bread taste delicious, different from the one she was given. Hmm, working with Kyla is making her attitude obvious. She can be so nice too, she hasn’t seen this pretty side of her….

The sound of clanging swords hitting each other filled the training ground just few meters away from the mansion. Don’s men were having their sword training under the leadership of Zuco who stood at the extreme of the square giving orders to the men fighting against each other.

“You all are bunches of weaker vessels, get that sword working or I work mine into your skull” he gritted, hating the way their swords are being held, and moreso the way they fight. His men would be gods in battle if there should be a war with these nincompoops. He thought

The training came to an end after an hour. Walking to the his sheath, he drew out a sword, checking its sharp edge. “Hmm” he placed it back gently, while examining the others.

“Those swords looks like they had been made centuries ago” a voice snapped him off his attention, he looked back to see who it is. The lady who brought Don’s message to him the first time of their encounter.

“True…they were passed down from generations to generations” he replied with a baritone voice. She walked closer to where he stood, looking at each sword, five in number.

“So which can you handle well” she asked. “Any….” He responded, not wanting to speak more. “And how good are you in swords?” She asked with a smirk…having the intention of checking his strength. This is the last thing Zuco would want from a lady, he values his strength more than his weaknesses.

“Is that a question or you have something else in mind” he rebuked. She shrugged, walking away without a word, only to draw out her sword, standing prepared at the center of the plain.

“I don’t agree getting questions as answers” she seethed, swinging her sword in the air. He was forced to pull out a sword, clashing it with hers. “Don’t taste my patience girl…you will be dead in seconds” he gritted, pressing his swords into hers, her hand quivered at the force of his strength..but she held her stance.

“Let’s see about that” she snarled, pulling the sword away, with a swift kick following up, which was directed to his knee. He saw that coming, dodging the strike. She flipped over, landing on her right knee, smirking. He dusted his shirt, pulling off his cloak, she stood to her feet, giving him the chance to get ready, while swirling her sword with one hand, taking soft steps back and front, alternatively with him

“You are still a learner” he mocked, infuriating her. She charged at him again, meeting his sword, they fought for a while with no one giving up a bit. “Even the so called masters of art learnt from me” she boasted, sending a striking blow to his jaw, he staggered backward, regaining his stance. She smirked

This angered him, why will a woman hit him. He was being gentle from the start, being that he doesn’t want to hurt her and whereas he hates showing his best skills in a training fight. The blow didn’t just give him pains, it split his lips open, as the metallic taste of blood touched his tongue. He flared in anger, his blood boils up, adding pressure to his vein. Mercury stood ready for him, she knew she had turn on the monster in him, that’s her plan to start with.

“You b!tch” he growled, launching at her this time. She felt a hard kick hit her tummy few minutes into the fight, she hates punches in her tummy, it’s one of her weak point. She staggered back a bit, not giving up. He spits out blood, wiping his nose, grunting like a pig while sniffing in.

She attacked back, wanting to give her best fight, but was blocked at all instances. He grabbed her neck, piercing her with his nails, kneeling her jaw fiercely. She pushed him with force, letting go of her sword, he dropped his too, agreeing to go with the fist fight.

She drew back a bit, gulping in before launching another attack. This time, he elbowed her chest, giving her a head cut. She kicked his groin which had little or no effect on him.

Her eyes flashed fear before her, but she concealed it with a strong heart, clearing his legs off the ground. He jumped over it, lifting her with one hand as he crashed her into empty bottle crates. She coughed out blood, feeling weak in her bones, he had almost broken all.

He walked back to pick his sword, aiming the pointed side to her chest when he was forced to pause

“That’s enough” Don yelled out, stopping him from striking her with it. Zuco grunted, glaring daggers at her before going his way. Don who had been watching the scene from a distance away walked closer, helping Mercury up. She breathed out a sigh of relief, was he going to ki*ll her, she thought.

“You could have stopped when you had the chance” Don stated, she scoffed
“That man….is a beast” she firmly uttered, staggering her way to the house. A smirk appeared on Don’s face, as he caresses his beard
“If he is truly a beast, then I didn’t choose the wrong man” he thought.
