NOT ANOTHER LOVE STORY

Episode – 33

“I’ve got it. It’s on the coffee table.” I called out to everyone.
“What is this… I hope he hasn’t committed suicide. Check the house, all the rooms.

I unlocked the phone, there was no password. After snooping around the phone, I landed on a pending message that was directed to me… ‘A scheduled message,’ It was indeed Allan’s work. I opened the message;

ALLAN – I wish I could find the right words to tell you, a few words to comfort you and make you understand that my decision was worth it _ let me not lie, there are no such words. Over the last month’s we’ve been together, I’ve come to know a lady I never thought existed in you. You are amazing and I regret knowing it, at such a late time. I’ve thought about the decision am making countless times and in all those instances, there isn’t one where I change my mind.
I didn’t want to write much, the rest of the notices I’ve neatly indicated in the letter that I’ve addressed to you. YOU WILL ALWAYS BE AT HEART.

“I can’t find him in any of the houses upstairs.” Allan’s father said as he came down, later on, mum came with the same response.

I didn’t want to make it obvious to Allan’s dad that I was already aware of what was happening. Hence, I played damn.

“Let me call Lucas. Am sure he can know what’s going on.” I told him.

I called him and his line was off, this was proof enough that Allan was already on his way out of town _ that’s if he wasn’t already on the road. I watched as Allan’s father sat down to read the letter in his hands. The more he stared at it, the more the expression on his face changed. He was like a lion that had its tail stepped on. Furious and vicious.

“Why! Lord, what I’ve I done wrong to you for me to receive such treatment?” He cried out.
“What is happening?” Mum asked him. I watched as she grabbed the letter from him and began to read. By her expression, things were worse than I had predicted.
“Who is this Alice that he keeps mentioning?” Mum asked.
“It’s some girl that caused troublesome months back.” His father responded.

Mr Muchimba senior was like a man with superpowers when he flipped his phone to make a call. From the shouting on the phone, it seemed like he had just called the Chief of police and ordered him to mount roadblocks at all the tall gates in the southern region.

“He thinks he is smart. He will see.” He said while pacing around the house.

I was still holding on to the letter he wrote, I was conflicted… I didn’t know if it was the right time to open it. Mum, after seeing what was going on began making phone calls to alert everyone that the wedding wasn’t going to take place. It was a good thing I hadn’t organised my party.

“I can’t wait to reach Kafue. Maybe we can even make a baby.” Allan said warmly.

The past two days had been so busy that I even forgot I was already carrying his baby.

“What _ you don’t want kids also?” He asked. It was then I realized that he noticed my reaction and how lost I became once he brought the topic up.
“Who else doesn’t want kids?” I asked him.
“Ivy… She has never been for the idea of having kids. ‘it will mess up her career on Instagram’, I was worried you would say you don’t want kids?” Allan said with a giggle. He looked relieved knowing that I want to have kids; telling him that I was already pregnant would send him flying with joy.

I decided to sleep again for the second time. This time, hoping Allan wouldn’t disturb me.

I don’t know for how many minutes I was out. Nonetheless, when I woke up, there were a lot of cars ahead of us. It was like the line wasn’t moving at all.

“Hey, love… You awake?” Allan saw.
“What’s going on?”
“I really don’t know. There is a lot of traffic through. We’ve been driving like this for some time now.” He explained to me.
“Are we still in Lusaka?” I asked him. I felt stupid after asking him, but hey… I just woke up and I could see lights everywhere.

After what seemed like forever, it was our turn. We had already reached Shimabala Toll Plaza.
It was unlike it for a tollgate to have such congestion.

“Good evening, Sir!”
“Evening. What’s with all the congestion here, what’s going on?” I asked the officer that was attending to me.
“Oh, we apologize for that. A roadblock had been mounted, the police are looking for someone. That is why there is a delay.” He said cheerfully.

A roadblock, the police and a search for someone… This smelt like something my dad would do. However, it was impossible _ Dad and Ivy would only know of my disappearance in the morning. Not only that, even if they got curious as to why I wasn’t answering my phone… I had explained to Ivy earlier that I wouldn’t be with my phone and she would have to wait until 8 PM for me to respond.

“You look worried, is everything okay?” Mwape asked me.
“Everything is fine. I just have a bad feeling about this… I mean, why would they mount a roadblock within a tall gate?”
“You think your father has something to do with this?” She asked me.
“I wish I could tell the limits of my father, he is one person who is full of surprises,” I told her.

The toll gate officer gave me my change and I drove off to the next point which was the roadblock mounted by the police. Mwape was beginning to have cold feet, I could tell because she wasn’t at ease. I stop the car.
