NOT ANOTHER LOVE STORY

Episode – 30

Waiting for Allan was becoming tiresome, I had so much that I had to do the following day and that meant I go to bed early. Being stuck between having a wedding and not having a wedding wasn’t something that a lady experienced now and then.
The fact that we only had a day left and he was still playing his character very well came as a shock to me. Mwape’s former manager had not called me, this meant that she had not gone back to consider the offer that he laid down for her. I had hope that providing such a job opportunity for her would make her change her mind… Seems that wasn’t working.

Allan knocked on the door, it was like an hour later and I had started dozing already.

“You not dressed up?” He asked me. His eyes scanned my body twice after that question.
“Am tired love. I’ve got a big day tomorrow. You said you would be here almost 3hrs ago.” I told him.
“Am sorry about that… I lost track of time.” Allan responded promptly.
“Is that so? I hope that doesn’t happen on our wedding day.” I commented.

My statement did exactly what I wanted it to do, no sooner had he thought about it than he changed his mind to go out.

“I knew this would happen…” He said finally after giving it a thought.
“What did you know?” I asked him.
“This… You having cold feet and refusing to go out for dinner. Don’t worry, I made a plan.” He smiled. He bounced off to his car and brought a double-decker pizza with a 1L of Fanta.
“I don’t take carbonated…” I reminded him.
“I know, the Fanta is for me. I got you Ceres.” He said smartly.

(FRIDAY MORNING)

Mum was in a mood for dictatorship, since Chipo was still around, she wasted no time in dividing the chores between the two of us. Besa got it easy because she had to go to school.

“Do I really have to do the cooking?” I nagged.
“I wish we could exchange, now the thing is, I hate pounding Katapa. Sorry…” Chipo said.

She wasn’t even helping at all. It was just a matter of time before Allan called to start asking me if I was ready to move out.
As if pounding Katapa wasn’t enough, I had to go to the market and look for it myself. If I didn’t know better, I would think mum was up to something. A way of making me stay at home the whole day.

“Hey, Emily…”
“Hi, love… You’ve been silent.” She said.
“I didn’t have talk time. Life without tips sucks.” I said.
“Don’t be crazy. You sound like you are walking, where are you going?” She asked.
“Am off to the market. Mum wants Katapa. She woke up in a bad mood today, Chipo has failed to even protest and run away to her house.” I laughed.
“Well, that gives you two more time to argue with each other. I will come and see you when I knock off.” Emily said.

It was then that I remembered that only my sister knew about the escape plan and non of my friends did. Emily wasn’t that difficult to convince, Limpo was the issue. She had no chill whatsoever and would tell mum in the blink of an eye.

(LATER THAT DAY)

I drove to Mwape’s place, I couldn’t park in my usual spot because her sister would see me and that would change things. After what seemed like forever, she came out.

“Where is your bag?” I asked her.
“I couldn’t pack anything, I thought we leaving in the evening?” Mwape asked me.
“Let’s just go…” I sighed.
“I can’t leave right now, am with mum and I’ve just asked for time out.”
“The plan has changed. I don’t think we can leave in the evening. Going right now will be best.” I told her.
“Am sorry, but right now won’t be possible. You will just have to come later as agreed.” She said.

I didn’t have to say anything, I stepped on the gas and left as a disappointed man.

Lucas who had switched off his phone and swapped to a new number _ sent a text.

LUCAS – Have you picked her up already?
ALLAN – No! She couldn’t come along because I didn’t communicate with her that the plan changed.
LUCAS – Wait, you just went to her place and asked her to leave out of the blues? That’s not good. You might end up freaking her out.
ALLAN – I know. But I didn’t like how she came out. It’s like she doesn’t want to go with me but has failed to tell me.
LUCAS – That wouldn’t be surprising. By the way, Mutinta is here. She keeps asking why am switching off my phone every now and then… I don’t know what to say.
ALLAN – Just make up a lie. We all know she loves weddings. If she finds out that there isn’t going to be one, she will tell Ivy and mess the whole plan up.
LUCAS – I know that, I didn’t think I would be feeling the pressure of having to keep your secret like this. Where do you plan on going while you wait?
ALLAN – I don’t know…
