NOT ANOTHER LOVE STORY

Episode – 27

#THURSDAY_MIDMORNING

“You look like Saturday morning after a Friday night party,” Lucas said as he walked up to.
“Shut up, do you have any glasses I can put on?” I asked him.
“Not here _ come to my office. What happened to you?” He asked.

We got into his office and I dived on the switch like a mad man. From the way, Lucas kept his gaze and surprised look for a second, am sure he imagined me as a zombie that was affected by artificial light.

“I just threw myself a party before I got to bed. That’s all.” I said once I took a sit.
“Well, that’s not all… The Strategic Marketing meeting was today and you as the owner of this company wasn’t around to chair it.” Lucas said as he joined me.
“You were just okay yesterday when you left here. What in the name of the Gods got you hyped to drink yourself to death?” He asked.
“I don’t know. I just felt like blacking out; alcohol takes away the pain and the thoughts at times. Makes you feel like nothing matters. Regarding the meeting, what happened?” I asked him.
“Well, your father came through. I did my best to cover for you but I don’t think it was enough. He’s really mad.” Lucas told me.

He handed me a glass of water with a tablet in it. I wanted to protest but I knew better.

“I can’t wait to leave. The funny thing is _ the more I think about it, the less I want to do it. Ivy might be crazy, but she has been good to me. Lucas, what would you do if you were in my shoes?” I asked him.
“That’s a tough one. I mean, this is your family we are talking about here _ because of that, I would go for Ivy. Love can always find a way in the end. You can’t tell me that a girl is worth losing your whole family over. Nonetheless, love is total witchcraft if you look at it from a different angle.” Lucas said full of humour.

“Hey… I’ve been trying to call you but my line wasn’t going through. Is everything okay?” I asked Mwape.
“Everything is okay. Why wouldn’t it be?” She asked.
“Well, you weren’t in the best of moods yesterday when we spoke. Am worried.” I told her.
“I see. There is no need to be worried. You’ve probably got it all planned out _ tomorrow, right?” I didn’t like the way that Mwape was coming out as we spoke. There was an aura that crept into my body.

I couldn’t help but entertain the thought of her changing her mind at the last minute.

“Yes. I hope you’ve got everything packed before then. We need to leave in the morning to avoid traffic.” I told her.
“Okay, am just worried about my mother. I’ve not told her anything about moving to Livingstone.” She told me.
“It’s okay. You can call her and tell her on the way. Besides, if you told her now am certain she wouldn’t allow you to leave.” I said convincingly.
“I hear you.” She responded lowly.

Lucas walked in, I hanged up without saying goodbye because I could see my father’s figure behind him.

“Dad,” I cleared my throat as I stood up.
“I wasn’t expecting you here…” I said. His presence always made me uncomfortable, my legs had turned to jelly and my voice wasn’t doing a good job.
“I thought Lucas told you that I was here. Is everything okay?” He asked.

Dad sat down, Lucas was behind him.

“You don’t look okay. A king that has no control over his kingdom will be soon overthrown.” He sighed. I could see the disappointment in his eyes.
“I will be in my office if you need me,” Lucas said. Sensing the tension in the room he decided to save himself.
“There is no need. You have to be here as well.” Dad said, he pulled up a seat for him.

#MWAPE

“Mwape!” Mum called.

I felt like my heart had left my chest, that was scary.

“Yes ma’am…”
“Besa locked the gate. Open the gate for your sister.” Mum said as she continued watching her Nigerian movie.

Of all people, it just had to be Chipo. This wasn’t good at all, ‘If she’s going to spend the night here then it will be hard for me to escape from the house in the morning. Not only that, she will suspect something the moment she finds me packing my bags.’

“Since when do you guys lock the gate?”
“It’s Bess’s foolish idea. What are you even doing here?” I asked her.
“What do you mean by that? This is my father’s house. I can come over whenever I feel like it.” She said banging the gate.
“I thought you would come with Junior, how is he and your husband doing?” I asked her.
“Well, you have learnt some manners. They are fine and how is that guy?” She asked.

She had that annoying grin on her face as she asked me. Furthermore, it felt like she was just making fun of me.

“He is fine,” I responded.
“Okay, do you still plan on running away with him?” She asked.
“What’s wrong with you!” Can’t you just shut up for once?” I shushed her.
“Oh, seems like you haven’t told mum about your little plan yet. I wonder what she will say when she finds out that her little doll is now trying to run away from home after getting pregnant.” She giggled.
“Can you keep it down… Mum might hear you.”
“Since you are here… It’s a good thing. But trust me, the minute you disappear from the house am going to tell on you. Later sis…” She smiled and walked into the house.

‘I have to find a way to sneak out without alarming the situation.’
