NOT ANOTHER LOVE STORY

Episode – 15

#ALLAN
Ivy finally left… My shirt was messed up and all tinkled. Mwape had a scary gorilla face. All I could do was mute myself and wait for her to say something.

“Am sorry…” I said. I had already waited and she wasn’t saying anything so I decided to take lead.
“I can’t believe this is my life right now…” I was surprised by how calm she was. I knew she was roaring inside and was just playing pretend with me.
“Eat something…” I passed her a slice of pizza.
“Am not hungry.”
“But you haven’t eaten anything. It’s going to be a long day hun.”
“Don’t do that. I’ve told you that I don’t no longer have an appetite.” We had already arrived at her workplace. She furiously opened the door and got out.
The good part was Emily was just arriving as well, I called her over and gave her the pizza to give to Mwape.

It was unusual for dad to call me before 10 AM. He always called when he was at his office… The only possible explanation was that Ivy had gone home. When I answered the call, he just ordered me to go and see him.

That was the least of my worries, the way that Mwape reacted to everything bothered me. I excepted her to shout, scream and all the crazy stuff that ladies did. However, she was composed.

“What is wrong with you? What’s this rubbish about you having an affair?” He asked angry. Dad was a splinter, it didn’t take long for him to be shouting at the top of his voice.
“It’s nothing like that, Dad,” I responded. I took a few steps away from him. He was quick with the hands when upset.
“What do you take me for? I asked you a bloody question boy!” He roared. His voice was loud enough to bring down the walls of Jericho.
“Am sorry, Sir.”

I hated it, Dad was so intimidating once he was upset, I had to think of something fast before he could start bringing up the inheritance, “That lady she saw me with is an Interior Designer. I wanted her to work on the decorations for the engagement party. I don’t even know how Ivy knew where I was, she couldn’t even ask what was going on. Rather, she began making a scene. Now she’s here.” I face Ivy with that undertaker look. The deadly eye.
“You think am a stupid boy? Ivy got a glimpse of messages on your phone.” Dad said.
“What! You sent through my phone?” I asked Ivy.

She didn’t say anything. Dad was the one that spoke on her behalf.

“Come on, that was just my friend from high school. She likes calling me babe…” I told him. Dad knew I was trying to bullshit my way out of this.
“What about …” Before Ivy could even ask I interrupted her.
“What about what? huh! You want me to cheat on you right? Why do you have to see things that ain’t even there?” I said getting up.
“Sit down!” Dad yelled.
“I will not seat down and watch you accuse me of something I’ve not done,” I said in protest.
“Allan, sit down. If you keep up like this you won’t have an inheritance by the time you leave this place.” He ordered

I bumped into mum.

“What’s happening here?” She asked with concern.
“Am out of here…” I said walking out of the house.

I got in my car and drove off. Lucas wasn’t working, I decided to go to his place instead.

“You are here?” He asked me while standing at the door.
“Can I come in?” “Thanks, man. Do you have any food in the kitchen?” I asked as I went to check.
“Wifey didn’t make you breakfast?” He asked laughing.
“She didn’t. Instead, She tailed me to the mall as I went to meet up with Mwape for pizza.” I told him.
“Wait… She did what?” Lucas asked surprisingly.

I ran him through the whole story and how Dad once again threatened me regarding the inheritance.

“What did your old man say?” He asked referring to what Ivy had told him.
“You know how he gets whenever Ivy coughs. The good part is that he will not find out about Mwape because I hit him with some reverse psychology.” I said proudly.

I went ahead and told Lucas about the genius idea that I used to save Mwape by telling my dad that she was an Interior Designer I was consulting on the matters of the engagement party.

“Good one.” He said giving me a high five.

Just as we were enjoying the moment, we both heard mums voice calling at the door.

“Is that the mum?” Lucas asked me.
“It sure does sound like her. How did she know I was here?”
“Why are you asking me? Am the one who is supposed to ask you that…” Lucas freaked out as he went to open the door for her.

“Your father explained everything to me…” Mum commented.
“I’m in love, this girl is a whole different vibe. I want to quit everything her _ she makes me happy.” I told her.
“What about the inheritance?” Mum asked.
“I don’t care about that… I will just do my own thing.” I told her, this was me using Mwape’s words.

Mum sighed, “All the things you are enjoying right now didn’t fall from heaven. Your dad had to work hard to attain all this. Yet, here you are talking about leaving all this for love.” She paused.
“Love won’t keep you warm in the winter Allan. I can’t make decisions for you… But I can tell you that you need this inheritance more than any of my children. And if you are going to throw your life away for some girl you just met, then so be it. Nevertheless, you know your father very well, he will watch you freeze to death.” She added.
“But mum… How can you say such a thing?” I asked her. Mum always took my side and not for the first time, she wasn’t.
“If you and dad plan on abandoning me because of Ivy, then fine, I will find my way,” I told her.

Mum to a sip from the glass of juice. Looked at me and then smiled, “Take time to think about your next move… Love is beautiful when you are with the right person. Money makes living with the wrong person bearable.”

And with those words, she walked out of the house. Lucas who was hiding in the dining area came out shocked.

“Did your mother just say that?” He asked me.
“Am confused as you are, I can’t believe dad got to her as well,” I said.
