Chapter 39
“My office is on the fiftieth floor,” he mentioned as they walked towards the elevator.
Her eyes widened at the word ‘fiftieth’. ‘Buildings like that existed?’ she gasped.
She had never been in a building that high before.
“Good morning, sir,” one of the employees said.
Daniella followed alongside Damien as she glanced at the workers who seemed to harbour great respect for him.
All of them acknowledged his presence as he walked into the elevator. It felt weird for her to be standing next to someone presumably so powerful.
It was also the fact that people were staring at her as if she had horns growing out from her head.
Did she look that out of place?
“Don’t worry about them,” he said, reading her mind.
“They are just curious as to whom my wife is. I never did introduce you formally.”
“Maybe it’s because you threatened me to marry you…” she whispered inaudibly to herself.
“Did you say something?” he asked.
“Maybe it’s because I look too young,” she covered up.
He chuckled and laid his hand around her shoulder reassuringly.
“Don’t worry, you look perfect to me.”
Daniella thought that maybe, just maybe if this wasn’t just a facade, she might have swooned over that comment.
When the elevator door opened her jaw-dropped at what looked like an empty room that was actually spacious enough to fit a small house.
“This is my office,” he said nonchalantly, guiding her inside.
He then proceeded to show her around the perks of an office for a esteemed CEO though she couldn’t help but feel awkward at the sheer size of it all.
Everything was classy and far from whatever league her family’s business was in. This company really was top tier.
“How’s it so far?” he asked her.
“The office, I mean.”
“It’s very….extravagant, I think,” she replied.
“You think?”
She lined her lips together, “Yeah.”
She couldn’t think of anything else to say.
He hummed and was about say something else when they were interrupted by a phone ringing on his desk.
He quietly excused himself from her and went over to the desk to answer it.
She wasn’t the one to eavesdrop into someone else’s conversation but from where she was standing, she was close enough to overhear what he was talking about.
“What do you mean that lawyer is back?” he said irritably.
She glanced over and saw how his expression scrunched up.
“So you just let him in?” he questioned, sounding annoyed.
He suddenly sighed and combed through his hair with his fingers before putting down the phone.
She rose her eyebrow questionably and walked towards him.
“What happened?” she asked him.
He was rubbing his temple with one hand while putting a hand on his hip.
“Nothing, don’t worry about it,” he smiled gently.
“I just need to go down and sort something out for a few minutes. Just stay in here and don’t move, okay?” he told her.
Daniella followed him to the door,
“So you’re just gonna leave me in here?”
He whipped his head back into the room and smiled apologetically.
“I won’t be too long. Just please don’t leave this room,” he asked gently caressing her cheek,
“Okay?”
Daniella made a thin line on her lips and sighed,
“Fine.”
She watched as he left the room, closing the door behind him.
Now she was alone in his office with nothing to do.
He basically showed her everything inside anyways so there wasn’t much to explore in here. Really there wasn’t much to see anyways. It was just a very open-spaced office.
She quietly just settled to the couch and opted to read a magazine that was sitting on the coffee table.
Not even a minute later, she suddenly heard footsteps approaching the office and thought it was Damien but as she turned around to look, a person who was in fact not Damien had barged through the office doors.
“Damien!” the man shouted as he swung open the door.
Daniella froze in place and looked at the man in surprise.
