Chapter 28

His body then came caving in on her before he took her arm and hoisted her up onto the mattress.

“What are you doing?” she cried out.

He glared in her direction and quickly put his weight onto her before she could make a move to get away.

“You think I’m just going to let you leave? You’re supposed to stay as my obedient wife and remain by my side forever,” he growled.

She gaped and glared back whilst trying to push him off her.

“I have a life too, you know? And it’s not just going to be about me staying as your perfect little trophy wife,” she screamed.

“Shut up,” he snarled,

“Just do as I say.”

He began to unbutton her dress shirt as she tried to push him off.

“You’re crazy! I knew I should have just ignored your threat,” she shouted.

Her actions began increasingly desperate and she finally used her elbow to knock his face away.

His body went sideways, leaving her enough time to crawl off the bed.

She quickly stood up and picked up her bag while running into the living room before her hand was suddenly held back with such a force that she fell backwards.

She gasped as she hit the floor, her head thumping against the cold marble tiles.

She groaned in pain and put her hands onto her head where it ached.

When she touched her temple, she suddenly hissed in pain.

“Daniella”

she heard Damien call out.

She felt him kneel next to her and his arms around her shoulder but she couldn’t exactly make out his figure.

Her vision seem impaired and multiple sightings of objects circulated around her.

Before she knew it, her whole view turned black and she felt her body go limp.

.

.

.

When she woke up, her head was pounding as if a hammer was thumping against her skull.

“Daniella? Ella?” a voice whispered next to her.

After a few seconds, she gradually got over the pain to open her eyes and the first thing she saw was someone she didn’t want to see.

“Damien?” she groaned in pain.

She felt the bed shift under her and a presence sitting close to her. Her hands were being lifted by his and she felt his lips on her forehead.

She flinched as he kissed the area where she fell onto and she saw a flash of worry on his face.

“Does it hurt?” he whispered worryingly.

She blinked slowly and sighed,

“I’m fine.”

She broke away from his hold and shifted her body to the edge of the bed. She tried to stand up but because she did it too quickly, white spots appeared and she suddenly sat back down on the bed.

“Just rest in bed for now,” he said pushing her gently back into the bed.

She didn’t feel like fighting for now so she just listened and sat there.

He came back in another minute with a tray of food and carefully placed it in front of her where she laid. He then handed over a pill and a glass of water that she presumed to be a painkiller.

“Take it, it’ll help the pain,” he said softly.

She glanced up at him and sighed before taking the pill and swallowing it quickly before taking a swig of water. Then just as he said, in a few minutes, her headache felt a little better than before.

“Here,” he said sitting down next to her.

She looked up at him and saw how he was holding a rectangular box wrapped in a simple gold ribbon.

“What is it?” she asked.

“Open it,” he said, handing her the box.

She looked at him suspiciously while he remained silent.

She carefully inspected the box and slowly unraveled the ribbon and unwrapping the paper to reveal the outside of a package for a phone.

“A phone?” she questioned.

“I tried looking for latest one but if you don’t like it then I can exchange it for another one,” he explained.

She kept staring at it uncomfortably. It definitely was the latest one that she’s heard about. In fact, it was so new that it wasn’t supposed to be released yet.

“How did you get this?” she asked,

“It’s supposed to come out next month?”

“A friend of mine works in the company so I asked for one,” he stated.

She kept staring at it and glided her fingers across the box before frowning.

“I can’t accept this,” she said.

He looked surprised,

“Why not? Is it because you didn’t buy it yourself? Don’t worry–”

“No, it’s not that,” she shook her head.

“Then what is it?” he asked concerned.

She thought about how to answer him.

‘It’s not because I’m mâd. But if I keep accepting all these gifts from him, I’m going to feel more attached to him and that’s not what I want.’

“Just keep it, Daniella. Just think of it as an apology gift. I broke your other phone out of anger yesterday, so I got you this one to make up for it,” he said.

“You didn’t need to get me an apology gift, you know.”

He slowly grabbed her hand and kissed it gently making her stare in shock.

“I wanted to,” he said gently.

She stared at him uncomfortably and still couldn’t shake off the ominous feeling deep in her chest.

If this was only a month into the relationship, she was scared to what would happen if she accidentally did something worse.
