SCARED OF THE DARK?

“I already told you that I accepted my boyfriend because I didn’t see us being together. You were always talking about her and couldn’t even notice me noticing you. After a month of dating my man, I found out he was a short tempered person, and could be aggressive and jealous. It was for that reason why I never objected when he asked me to stop seeing you.” “For some reason, he hated you, it’s only now why I have understood his reason for doing so.” She said in a low voice.

“What reason?” I asked nervously.

“Even though you avoid people, you are easy to love. You are easy to talk to. He was able to notice how free I was when I was around you the time he was asking me out. And when we began dating, it wasn’t the same with him.” She said, “He never wanted me to be on phone around him for a long period. He didn’t like it when I spoke to guys even at work. With every little thing I did, I displeased him. Until one day he just lost it and slapped me.” She said.

“Wait. Are you saying that bas***d laid his filthy hands on you?” I asked her.

“Yes. I didn’t happen once, behind those suits is a man who is filled with fear, doubt and pain. The only why he controls himself is to dominate other people, so he began to threaten me. Every call I was on brought trouble. He didn’t introduce me to his family out of love and a desire to marry me. He did that so that I would find it had to leave him.” She told me.

I didn’t know what to do. My hands had began shaking, I was so mad. Not only at him, but at myself for not having the wisdom and sight to see that what I needed was always right beside me.

“When I couldn’t take it anymore, I began walking in the shadows just to spend time with you because… There is a way I feel when am around you. I don’t know how to explain it, but am like a slave and you are my master.” Lydia said.

“Hey hold it. Don’t say such nonsense.” I told her.

“When I said I had something to tell you; That man, tried to force himself on me.” At this point, she was drowning in her own tears. I didn’t know what to do, I had seen the guy. I never thought that he would lower himself to such a place as to try and rape his own girlfriend.

“I wanted to tell you. But I didn’t know how to do it…” She sobbed, “he left and that’s how I came here and slept over.”

“What about the day I came to your place and found you in the corner?” I asked her.

“He came to threaten me, he spoke about me spending time with you and other things. He warned me not to tell anyone that he had tried to force himself on me. The stupid man couldn’t even say he was sorry!” She exclaimed strongly.

“I spent the day crying. I felt broken. I don’t know where I went wrong, he pretended to be a nice guy. He was charming and everything I wanted in a man. It’s as if he had been studying me before he made a move on me.” Lydia told me.

“It’s okay. Don’t cry. Am here for you.” I told her.

Lydia went on to tell me what had happened earlier that morning when she decided to go to his place and how she witnessed him shag a young lady in his apartment.

Who ever said relationships are easy lied. I had just gotten out from a breakup with a very beautiful lady and I didn’t feel affected or bothered that she had been seeing someone else. I believe, there is a point we’re things like looks, the size of her @$$ don’t matter anymore. A point where to find someone truly, you would have to dig deeper into their heart. For most, relationships are a way of masking the pain, hurt and bitterness that we store inside ourselves.

Ben had gone to order some food for us, we decided to eat from his car instead. That way, we would have time to just be the two of us at the parking lot.

About the game, he let me win on purpose. I couldn’t stop talking about it, and it didn’t seem to bother him at all. In his defense, he said, “I can’t always be right. I can’t always win. If it is like that, then am a bad leader.”

Just when I was done with Chileshe, Ben had become him.

“Hey love…” He called out as he knocked on the window. There had been word of people stealing and robbing cars so he told me to clock it once he left.

“Since we have ice cream I restrained myself from getting a milkshake. Here are the chips, spices were added as you requested with a lot of tomato sauce.” He smiled as he sat down.

“Thank you very much for today.” I told him.

“Is it just me or something is up?” He responded.

“What do you mean?” I asked as I forced him to open his mouth.

“You have said those exact words like four times today. It’s not like you to repeat phrases.” Ben noted. I found it weird that he actually paid that much attention to me.

“The thing is, I haven’t been in a good place for a while now. I deferred with a friend, male, and things just weren’t the same. You said I had been zoning out on you the other time. And you also asked why my phone rang a lot on a certain day _ that was him and I was avoiding him. I thought doing that would made things better for me but it didn’t. ” I told him.

“I see. This friend of yours, is he someone I know?” He asked.

“I don’t think so. His a new teacher at Open Words Secondary School…” I told him.

“Wait, do you mean Chileshe?” Ben asked me.

“How do you know him?” I asked curiously.

“It’s a long story, but I know of him. His made a big impression at that school after reaching for just two months.” Ben said.

What surprised me was how relaxed he became after knowing whom it was. Not only that, he seemed to be inspired by him.

I suddenly found myself laughing, he (Chileshe) promised me to do his best once he got that job. I just didn’t know that he had already began making lasting impressions on people.

“While, that’s my friend. So I cancelled on meeting because I had to meet him and talk.” I told him.

“How did it go?” He asked me.

“Am not sure. But I think all the bad blood had been cleaned.” I told him.

“That’s good. It’s important to move with a clear head.” He smiled.

I still had something I needed to clarify about Ben. It seemed like the right time to ask him everything that was pending on my mind concerning him.
