THE ART OF LOVE

NEXT DAY

@CHILESHE

“You know it’s Sunday right?” Mwenda said me.

“I know. I was trying to call you but your line was busy…” I told him.

“Oh!” He laughed, “I was talking to babe. We spoke like the whole night. Slept at 3AM.” He told me.

“What! What were you guys talking about? It’s that fresh love again right?” I giggled.

“Hey… Just hold it there. Me and her had a serious told. Like you advised, I told her I wasn’t comfortable with the marriage talk every single second we spoke. I told her about the pressure and corner which she was pushing me into…” Mwenda ran me through their chat. It wasn’t hard to notice how happy he seemed on the phone.

“And what was her response?” I asked.

“Well, she said she felt left behind. All her friends were getting married and for her, things didn’t look as if they were moving… So her friends encouraged her to force the marriage agenda down my throat. Can you believe that?” He asked me.

It wasn’t hard for me to believe that. After all, Mwenda and I did almost the same thing when we asked each other for advise. I was happy for him, knowing that things were now going smoothly with his girl: The appetite to go after every skirt he saw had gone bad. This time around, his girlfriend didn’t even need to force him; he was the one talking about getting serious with life and settling down.

“What about you? Have you found a way to tell Matimba that you not in love with her?” He asked me.

“Well, she finally got back to me yesterday. Am meeting her today. Am nervous man.” I told him.

“You don’t have to be. If there is one thing I’ve come to know about you _ you always find a way to do things the way they should be done. Just chill, if you get too nervous you might end up falling into a panic attack.” He told me.

Mwenda was very correct. Being to nervous, anxious and all, wasn’t really good for me. Lydia had helped me a lot to overcome the panics, however, extra precaution was needed.

“I almost forgot. How did it go at Lydia’s place?” He asked. He sounded all excited.

“It was okay.” “Till emotions began to spill from the heart and things became tense. I told her the truth about Matimba and I. She understood for a moment and then lost it. But I think there is more going on…” I told him.

“What makes you say that?” He inquired.

“Well, when I arrived at her place I found her seated on the floor in a corner. I could tell she had been crying, I begged her to tell me what was wrong… But I had no luck on that.” I told him.

“Don’t force her. When she feels like telling you, when will definitely do that. The fact that she called you over means she considers you as someone whom she can be safe with.” Mwenda added.

“It’s not as easy as you make it sound. I just can’t handle the heartache. The feeling of knowing she isn’t well and I can’t do anything about it is just crushing.” I said.

“Just be there for her.”

“Where is dad?” I asked my cousin. She was busy dressing up for church.

“He already left.”

“Left? Ain’t we going to Church together?” I asked.

“No we not. He got invited by Ms Ngoma. So he has gone to her church.” She explained to me.

I really didn’t know what to comment. The dinner we had was indeed amazing. Just like my cousin had said; I found Ms Ngoma to be an interesting lady and worthy of dad.

“Are we going to be with Ben?”

“Nah. His not coming with us today. Besides I have to meet up with Chileshe. If Ben is around, it will he hard to leave.” I told her.

“I even forgot about that. So gave you gone through what you will tell him?” My cousin asked.

“There is no good way of breaking up with someone. I will just be truthful with him and hope that all goes well.” I told her.

MATIMBA: ‘What time are we meeting?’

CHILESHE: ‘Anytime. Am not going to Church today.’

MATIMBA: ‘Why ain’t you going for church?’

CHILESHE: ‘No reason. I just don’t feel like going to church.’

MATIMBA: ‘Okay. That’s unlike you. Am on my way to church, I will come through to your place after church.’

CHILESHE: ‘Sure thing.’

@@ @@ CHILESHE @@ @@

CHILESHE: ‘Good morning, how was your night?’

LYDIA: ‘It was okay. Even though you refused to stay.’

CHILESHE: ‘You know extremely well why I couldn’t stay. Maybe another day, I will.’

LYDIA: ‘If you say so. How are you?’

CHILESHE: ‘Am strong. Just lazing around. Was talking to Mwenda.’

LYDIA: ‘You just lazy. LOL. How is he doing? Did things work out between the two of them?’

CHILESHE: ‘I ain’t lazy. They got back together. He says the two of them had a soul to soul conversation. Seems everything will work out after all.’

LYDIA: ‘Thats amazing news. I really liked that girl – beautiful soul.’

CHILESHE: ‘How would you know she’s a beautiful soul? You only met her once if not twice.’

LYDIA: ‘Am a lady. I can tell a trickster when I see one. She just loved him for everything he was. It’s your friend who was busy running up and down… Hope you don’t end up like him. HEHEHE.’

CHILESHE: ‘What!’

LYDIA: ‘You know what they same about birds of the same feathers right?’

CHILESHE: ‘Am done with this chat. LOL. Go and have your breakfast. You really need to eat up.’

Lydia was aware I would be meeting up with Matimba later in the day. Even though she never asked me to confirm on it when we had been texting.

Since I wasn’t in the mood for church, I decided to clean up the house, my hope was to loosen up and lose some of the tension that came with thinking about Matimba and I face to face.

While I did all that, I still kept text chatting with Lydia who had woken up in a good mood. She kept teasing me and bullying me.

LYDIA: ‘Come see me some?’

CHILESHE: ‘I can’t come that side today. If you don’t mind you can come.’

LYDIA: ‘Nah! You going to be with your girlfriend. I don’t want to be the third wheel.’

CHILESHE: ‘Are you seriously using that against me? You see what I mean when I say you a bully?’

LYDIA: ‘Don’t be funny Chileshe. Look at us, who qualifies to be a bully between the two of us?’

CHILESHE: ‘You lucky am not there. You could have seen what I would have done.’

LYDIA: ‘And what would you have done boss?’

CHILESHE: ‘That is for me to know and you to find out.’

LYDIA: ‘It’s not like you don’t know where I stay dah!’
