Chapter 63

Hazel’s p.o.v

“My mum wanted so badly to see my new secretary then and so I had snapped your picture to send it to her.” He explained when he saw what I was staring at.

Oh that’s it,

but then he could have deleted the picture after sending it to her?

I continued with checking out the other pictures.

“Aww! So cute. Was this when you were three or four?” I asked showing him the picture I was referring to for him to see.

“Three.”

“Ooh… Look at this too. Wait, who is this beside you?” I placed a thumb on the little boy beside him in another picture.

In the picture, he looked older while the boy beside him looked younger than him.

“My Stepbrother.”

“Damien is your stepbrother?”

“Was…”

“What do you mean by was?” I asked impatiently sitting up.

“He died six years ago.”

“What happened to him. Was he sick or something?”

“He committed suicide.”

“Suicide? Why would Damien commit suicide?”

“How did you guys get to know each other?”

“He was my only friend back when I was in preschool until his mum changed his school because he was friends with me.”

“You must be the teddy bear he always talked about?”

“That was the nickname he gave me back then.” I smiled bitterly.

“I can’t believe he committed suicide. Was he going through a hard time or something?”

What would have made him commit suicide?

He was so cute and gentle as a child.

He was a very good friend of mine.

I thought back to the time when we were friends and how even after his mum changed his school, he would send me cards and gifts on my birthdays, he stopped sending me gifts and cards after my tenth birthday and I never heard from him again after that.

“Are you okay?” He asked.

“How can I be? What about his Mum- your stepmum?”

“She is being taken care of at an asylum.”

“Oh my god! Was it because of her son’s death?”

“It was too hard on her,”

After talking further, at 1am he offered to see me back to my room.

“Good night.” We were at my door now.

“Yeah.” He replied.

I gave him a weak smile before opening the door to go in.

“You don’t have to be down because of that.”

“I can’t help it.”

“Don’t think too much about it, okay?”

He looked worried.

I nodded.

“Sleep tight.” He said but didn’t make any attempt to leave and neither did I make any attempt to open the door to go in.

I had never been able to maintain eye contact with him before but tonight I was doing just that.

It continued this way until he suddenly surged forward and taking me by surprise for the second time that day, pressed his lips against forehead.

It was like been touched by a feather and even though it was just for a moment and he was gone now, I could still feel the wetness of his lips on my forehead.
