Chapter 58

Hazel’s p.o.v

Just as I took my seat back at the dining table after returning back from the room, Madrigal came in, looking devilishly handsome in a white short sleeve button down over a pair of black slacks which looked more than perfect on him and I just wanted to know if there was any outfit he could try on that wouldn’t look perfect on him.

Seeing him, brought back Sandra words, and then I was angry again for no real reason.

“Hi.” Ellie waved at him.

From where I was, I could read the confusion on his face and so rose up and walked over to where he was to explain things to him.

“Whose kid is that?” He asked but not too loud for her to hear.

“Can we discuss else where?” I asked.

In compliance, he led the way to his room.

“She is the daughter of one of my department members, Catherine. She needs to stay with her son who is sick, at the hospital today and begged me to let her daughter stay with us for the night.”

“Why didn’t you call to inform me, you know you can’t just bring anyone you like in here right?”

“I did call you?”

“How come I didn’t see any missed call from you?”

“It was sarah who picked the call.” I explained.

“Since she is here already, can she stay?”

“Yeah, she can stay.”

“Thank you.” I said before turning to leave but he grabbed my hand before I could take a step.

“Wait, what did sarah say to you?”

“Nothing.” I shrugged his hand off.

“You look angry.” He noticed.

“Did she say anything to upset you?”

“No, but what were you doing at her place anyway?”

“Her place? She said I was at her place?” He asked.

I didn’t say anything.

“But you were with her, well not as if I care.” I said.

“Are you jealous?” Asked a little voice in my head.

“Jealous? Why should I be?” I disagreed, shaking my head a little at the accusation.

He looked confused.

That wasn’t meant to be said out loud.

I had never felt so embarrassed in my life.

“I didn’t say anything about you being jealous.” He defended.

“Whatever.” I left for the dining room immediately.

He came to join us at the dining table after getting changed and taking a seat at the head of the table, he didn’t make any attempt to put any food on his plate, but only sat back after saying hi to Ellie and started staring at me from across the table.

I pretended like I wasn’t affected by his staring or wasn’t even aware he was staring and he on the other hand wouldn’t stop staring. I couldn’t help but to wonder if he was there to just stare or to eat and Ellie, who didn’t miss the way he was staring at me and my flushed face kept giggling.

Without anyone telling me, I could feel my eating pace slowing down.

“You should eat before they get cold.” I warned, my patience wearing thin.

“I’m not really hungry.” He said honestly.

He would never cease to amaze me.

“Then what are you doing at the dining table?”

“Nothing.” He said casually.

Ellie let out a loud laugh this time.

“Uncle, what happened to your arm?” Ellie asked him. His eyes finally averted from me to her and I could feel my body ease up a little bit.

“Had a litte accident.”

I wanted to convince myself I didn’t just hear him call what happened to him a little accident.

I would just never have enough of this guy.

“Oh sorry about that.”

“Thank you. What’s your name again sweetheart?” He asked her.

“Ellie.”

“A nice name for a cute girl.”

“Thank you.”

“How old are you?”

“I’m six.”

“You shouldn’t be asking her questions while she is eating and Ellie you don’t talk while eating.” I reprimanded but not in a stern manner because I hate being stern on kids.

“But I don’t have any food in my mouth.”

“Doesn’t matter as long as you are still on the dining table.”

“Okay.” She resumed eating and madrigal was staring intently at me again.

I knew what his intention was, he was only bent on teasing me and I could see he was enjoying the effect his staring was having on me.

“She told me that you are a very nice person.” Ellie spoke up again.

“Ellie, I told you not to…”

“She told you that?” He asked her.

“Yes she did.”

I was more than relieved after I was done eating and could finally return back to my room.
