IT’S NOTHING

Peter Paused for a second as his attention was stolen by the relationship advise the lady was giving.

‘Everyone is giving advise about relationships these days.’ He said to himself.

‘Chongolo loves chips, how am I going to make this… dammit, this is harder to execute than it looked in my head.’

‘Rice or spaghetti… rice is to common. Spaghetti will do!’ He continued talking to himself as he walked around the kitchen.

In the other room, Max had already eaten. His hunger was deeper that his patience to wait for Bwalya who had now gone for more than 30 minutes.

‘I can’t believe he really pulled it off. Wow! I knew he had game but not this level. This would totally break Samuel.’ He spoke calmly to himself, more like he was talking to someone else.

‘I hope he knows what his doing. ’cause if Eunice lands and finds those two acting like love birds, surely the gates of hell will open for someone.’ He shook his head, at this point what was about to happen would just happen.

Beside all that, Max had not yet agreed to move out of the house. Yet again, he knew there was nothing to do… at least him not being around would mean the walls were going to fall on their own without him being questioned about it.

“Thanks for letting her join us.” Maluba said to Bwalya. They were at hungry lion as the waited for Rose to come back from Shoprite but that was like 10 minutes ago. The weird part was that Bwalya wasn’t even complaining about it.

“Its nothing. Besides she looked like she needed some company. Did you two argue?” He asked her.

“Not at all. Just some relationship drama that’s all. Kaili you guys want to eat the cake and throw away the plate.” Maluba said.

“Am guessing that’s a metaphor! and I thought Max was the weird one.” He commented.

“What is that suppose to mean?” She asked.

“His figure of speech is filled with metaphors such that you even seem dull on things you are well knowledgeable about.” He sighed.

She looked at his light skin, the day was sunny with a bit of clouds. “Give me your phone. I want to take a picture of you.” She said with a Happy face.

“Is that your way of asking that I take pictures of you as well?” He asked her.

“Not really. I just love photography, I wouldn’t mind you taking photos of me though.” She giggled.

Bwalya got his phone and passed it to her. It was already unlocked, so she found her way to the camera and began taking photos of him.

“Dude, you need to smile…” She said.

“More teeth, less teeth.” She said as Bwalya was now busy posing for her.

“How about this…” He asked.

“That looks good.” She responded.

“Okay, that’s to much of me. Its now your turn.” He said as he got the phone from her hand.

Since they sat outside, everyone who walked passed them made sure to take a look at them. After all, they did behave like a couple.

She covered her face before he could capture the first one, “Remove the hands.”

“Sorry but I can’t. If you want to take photos of me, you need to use my phone.” She said.

“And what’s wrong with mine?”

“You a guy, am sure you dating and I wouldn’t want your lady finding pictures of me in your phone and then waging war on me.” She laughed as she answered him.

“What makes you think she would that?” He asked her.

“Because am a lady. And if I was in her shoes, that’s what I would do. Jealousy is just a strand of DNA that every woman has.” He laughed and handed him her phone.

While Maluba and Bwalya were busy taking photos of themselves, Rose was busy looking at the bows of ice cream in the fridge. She had been at it for a while now and had not decided which one she wanted.

‘I can’t believe I gave in to his stupid act. Acting like he was sorry and wanted to make things work out for is when all he wanted was the sex. Foolish me. Guess am the addicted one.’ She thought to herself as she stood with her eyes fixed on the ice cream.

All she wanted was a bow to take away the pain and the guilt that came with it. But nope; Maluba just wanted a threesome and the only way to leave them alone was going to Shoprite undecided to stare at the fridge while those two were left to have a frivolous moment together.

“Can I ask you something?”

“Sure, what’s up?” Maluba asked him.

“What would have happened if Rose refused to come along. Would you have agreed then to come with me?” Bwalya asked her.

“I don’t think that’s something you need to worry about. Trust me, if I didn’t want to be here… I wouldn’t be here.” Maluba responded.

With a smile, Bwalya went on to say, “I think it’s time we look for the small one.”

“Am going to tell her!” Maluba exclaimed.

“What you going to tell?” He laughed.

“You know what you just called her, ati small one as if you big yourself.” She laughed.

Like a young couple that had just fallen in love, the two walked into Shoprite giggling as they spoke about the ice cream they had just had.

“So where do we find her?” Bwalya asked.

“Shes probably looking for yogurt if not ice cream.” She responded.

“But she just had ice cream!”

“She likes it in a bow and a larger size when upset.” Maluba responded.

“What is it with girls and big things…” Bwalya said passively.

“Did you say something?” She asked him.

“Huh! not at all. I think I see her.” Bwalya said as she pointed to were Rose stood.

“So which one are we having?” Maluba asked her.

“Am thinking about Vanilla, it goes well with self pity and guilt.” Rose responded.

“You know you don’t have to be going through this right?” She asked her.

“I know. But somehow, things just happen the same way all over again despite the direction I take.” Rose said.

“I think you need more time to yourself. You heading towards your exam and right now you a mess.” Maluba said.

“Remind me of what happens when the blind lead the blind…” She laughed.

“This case is different. You the blind one. And am the blind one with a walking stick.” She giggled.

“I think I need therapy!” Rose laughed as she finally got the bow of ice cream.

“And as your therapist all am saying is you need to learn how to handle your emotions. Don’t just dive for every guy that says ‘I love you’ that’s all. You even lucky…” Maluba said.

“Lucky! You gat to be joking. I stink of regret, hurt, pain and most of all disappointment because I can’t keep my word.” Rose lashed out.

“You lucky because if you were in the village… you would be marriage to some old man who looks the size of yo grandfather. But now, now you still beautiful, you still smart and by still have the time to ma things right. Let’s go home now.” Maluba said as they walked to the counter.

“By the way, that therapy session costs K500.” She giggled.

“What! that wasn’t even an hour…” Rose objected.

Bwalya then joined them with two bottles of Go Fresh and plastic of bread.

“How did it go?” He whispered in Maluba’s ear.

“Great!” She responded.

“You went to buy airtime Ku Mine Area?” Max asked as Bwalya walked in.

“What makes you say that?”

“Because you have been gone for almost two hours… let me tell you this, don’t even think about it.” Max said.

“Think about what?” Bwalya laughed.

“You know pretty we what a talking about. I’ve seen the way you look at Maluba. Eunice is coming and if you not careful, you going to mess up more than just your relationship with her.” Max added.

“Come on! It was just ice cream. That’s all.” Bwalya responded.

“Its never just Ice cream and the sooner you see that the better. Unless you tell me you about to trade your future for Ice Cream?” Max asked.

As Max was turning up some heat on Bwalya, Rose was about to do the same to her roommate.

“What were you doing with him?” She asked.

“By him… you mean Bwalya?” Maluba asked, “Nothing he just escorted me to buy airtime. That’s all.” She added.

“Last I checked, you said his a player. And am wondering why you taking the ball to him. Am sure you know what player do right? they score!” Rose commented.

“You don’t have to get worried. Its nothing.” Maluba responded.
