“It’s not that. I stay with my friend bae. You know how that is like.” Bwalya said.

“Don’t even go there Mr. I told you from the word go to get your own place. But no! you wanted to save a few Kwachas. So what you going to do is use those same Kwachas you saved to find Max a place to stay.” Eunice responded.

“Come on, you don’t need to break rude.”

“Am not being rude Bwalya. We talked about this… You and me, we agreed on this. But no, you wanted to do things your own way.” Eunice said, her tone hard lowered. She was tired, she couldn’t take it anymore.

Before Bwalya left Kabwe, they could talk about how nice it would be if he rented a house alone. That way Eunice would be stopping by from time to time when she was on the road.

But those were just words, after all, talk is cheap. Once Bwalya moved to Chililabombwe and ran into Max his friend from high school. He suddenly gave up all the ambitions and plans he had drawn with his girlfriend.

“I think you should come next year. At least that will be a good time for me.” Bwalya said. He had to change the topic, after all, he knew very well how crazy Eunice could get once she was upset about something.

“No… No… No! You not going to talk your way out of this. You better tell your whores that I will be there ’cause I swear Bwalya a. going to make hell rain on you.” She said.

Even though it sounded like a joke, he knew better than to joke around with her. She always made sure she got what she wanted. There was nothing that was about to make her change her mind.

“Thank goodness you here.” Bwalya said excitedly as Max walked in. But something wasn’t right, Max was home earlier than usual.

“How come you 30 minutes early today?” Bwalya asked.

“I was given a lift.” He responded as he plugged his phone to the Charger and began changing his clothes. “You sound excited about me being here, that’s unlike you, did something happen at work?” Max asked.

“Cant a brother be happy to see another?” Bwalya giggled, “Mwandi I have a serious problem.” He added.

“What! What did you do this time around?”

“Stop being funny. Eunice is visiting this weekend.” He said as he bit his nails.

“Why does it sound like a command?”

“Because that’s exactly what it is, You know I can’t sag no to her. She might think am hiding something.” Bwalya said in a flash.

“Then why do you seem worked up, its not like you hiding anything. Besides non of your side plates have been here since the girls moved over.” Max commented.

“You don’t get it. She wants to stay here.” Bwalya paused as he spoke, “It means you have to find somewhere else to sleep.” He added calmly.

“What! don’t even give me that face. Am not going anywhere. Why can’t you book a room somewhere?” Max nagged as he shook his head to disagree.

“You know Eunice can’t accept that. Besides I don’t have any money on me to book a room for a week.” Bwalya said.

“You what! My goodness, Eunice was right about you after all. How can a man in his mid 20s be so broke despite having a job?” Max asked.

“Okay enough about me, But help me out here… You can stay with Samuel for a week. Please Max…” Bwalya begged.

“You will have to do better than that if you expect me to take your side.” He laughed as he walked out.

‘Did he just say he wants a bribe?’ Bwalya asked himself as he watched the door close.

Maluba was hyped up as she walked into the room.

“Hey!”Rose shouted as she walked up to the door butt naked to lock her friend out.

“Rose! open this door…” Maluba called out.

Just then Max closed the door behind him with a giggle. Maluba was on the other side of the hallway calling out to Rose.

“Whats with the shouting?” Max asked her.

“Rose, you better open up this door…” Maluba called out once again.

“Oh, I see what you doing. So now you playing blind and deaf huh? That’s good.” Max said as he walked to the kitchen.

Just the open went the door and Rose came out. She explained that she couldn’t let her inside the room because Mengo was there.

“Come on, you guys are already having sex? That’s just so wrong.” Maluba said.

“Don’t rub it in my face.” Rose responded.

“Am not rubbing anything. Just the other day you told me it was over and you were moving on. Today you in bed together?” Maluba said as she walked to the living room.

“Come on Maluba, she was messed up. He needed someone to talk to. There was nothing I could do.” Rose said as she sat next to a furious friend.

“You could have gone to school. You not his mother to be nursing his sorry butt.” Maluba responded.

“I know what I said, but I love him. Am not like you, I just can’t walk out on him. It’s not something that is easy for me to do.” She said in her lowered voice.

“Okay. You go back in there and ask him to leave. Because I swear am going to hit him so hard his own mother won’t recognize him…” Maluba said with her fist held high.

Rose entered the room and found Mengo already dressed up. He seemed terrified, after all, Rose already handed him the booklet that stipulated how much Maluba hated him.

“Was that Hitler?” Mengo said as he stood up ready to go.

“You going to be in big trouble if she heard you call her that.” Rose laughed as she kissed him.

“I missed you baby girl.” Mengo said as he kissed her back.

“But now you have to go…” “You made the bed, that’s so much unlike you.” Rose laughed as they walked out hand in hand.

As they passed through the kitchen they came across Max who seemed to be busy on the stove.

Max had seen Mengo before so it was awkward for him when he saw them tiptoeing out of the house like two kids who had stolen sugar.

“Hey man!” Mengo greeted him as they walked out.

When they were out, Rose called Maluba to let her know the room was free. When leaving the living room she met Max once again with a pan and a tray of sausage in his hands.

“Don’t let that get to you.” Max commented.

“Just because I gave you a lift doesn’t mean we now friends…” Maluba responded as she shut the door.

‘Girls have issues. One minute she’s a queen the next she’s acting like a bull.’ Max said as he continue on his way to the kitchen.

SAMUEL: “Did you talk to her?”

MAX: “What! No way, you need to ask her on your own.”

SAMUEL: “You know am not good with front combat. Just the number, I will do the rest.”

MAX: “And you say you were pro’s during your College days. lol.”

SAMUEL: “Its different when you doing it for fun and when you doing it because you really like someone.”

MAX: “I don’t believe in love at first sight Sir.”

SAMUEL: “You don’t have to believe in it, all you have to do is stand beside me.”

MAX: “LOL.”

SAMUEL: “Gash, am your friend Max. Friends help each other. Help me get Maluba…”

MAX: “Do you know how many girls I’ve helped you out with? And something always goes wrong.”

SAMUEL: “I don’t know what goes on in the mind of a female. However, I know very well not to force a girl to be mine.”

MAX: “Thats the sound of fear…”

SAMUEL: “Look whose talking. lol.”

“Hey Max, can you turn on your hotspot…” Bwalya said as he leaned against the kitchen window.

“No way! You think I don’t remember what you did last time.” Max said as he picked up his phone from the Kitchen table.

“Don’t tell me you still pissed.”

“Still pissed? you finished my 5GB busy downloading SUITS.” Max responded.

“Now why you acting like you didn’t watch some?” Bwalya asked.

“Stop holding that on me. I only watched because it was the only reason option I had.” Max responded while hiding his phone in his pocket.

“And people wonder why Africans are so poor when their land is rich. Its because of a couple of individuals like you.” Bwalya laughed as he spoke.

“Nope! That’s not it, Africans are poor because they think being broke means you are godly.” Max objected.

“That doesn’t make sense.” Bwalya responded.

As they were now debating Maluba walked in from behind and stood at the door as she listened to their small argument.
