Chapter 63 ( The proposal)

ASHA’S RESIDENCE

The ride home was quiet as nobody said a word to each other. Asha looked outside the window as she stared at the beautiful city of Los Angeles.

Josh looked at her through the side window and let out a sigh. He wondered what was wrong with her.

Whenever he tried to start a conversation with her, she would shut him out and he didn’t know why. It baffled him but he didn’t want to ask her any question that would anger her.

She was happy in the morning but now she is sad or he could use the word cold because he was so confused.

‘Is this one of the pregnancy hormones?’ he asked himself inwardly.

After what went on like forever they finally reached the house and Asha quickly opened the door and got out.

Josh couldn’t say a word but just carried the sleeping Tara out of the car.

He walked into the house and headed straight to Tara’s room, he pushed the door opened and laid her on the bed.

He got to Asha’s room and met her sitting on the bed. He watched her for a while before he walked over to the bed and sat next to her.

“Are you ok?Did something happen?” Josh asked as he broke the silence that invaded them.

“I just want to be alone please.”

Josh felt pained immediately when he heard those words come out of her mouth. He looked at her and when his hands wanted to get close to her face, she flinched a little.

“Alright fine, if that’s what you want…we will talk later.” He said before standing up.

“Four years ago…” She began, which made him stop on his track. He sat back on the bed and she continued.

“When I gave birth to Tara complications arose and the doctor told me that I won’t be able to give birth to any child again and I believed it. That was why I protected Tara with everything I had in me….I am not angry I am pregnant but am shocked, I never thought I would have another child again and this happened so suddenly and unexpectedly.” She explained and closed her eyes.

Josh moved close and she placed her head on his shoulders.

“Baby do you believe in God?” He asked and she replied with a nod.

“My mom believes in God and I also believe in him too. So what I am trying to say is, God made all this happen and maybe he wants me to take full responsibility this time.” Josh said and held her chin.

“And that’s what I’m going to do, I am going to be available from now on till forever.” He said.

Without uttering a word, she hugged him tightly.

“I love you.” She said and he kissed her hair.

“I love you too.”

Asha moved uneasily on the bed and that caused Josh to wake up. He looked at her and saw how she clutched on the bed sheet tightly.

“Stop, please, don’t do this.” Asha whimpered as tears ran down her cheeks.

Josh turned on the lamp and shook her but it seems she was still trapped in her dream.

“Please don’t do this, I bet you!” She yelled, which scared the hell out of Josh.

“Asha, wake up! Wake up! It’s just a dream!” He shook her continuously and she sprang up immediately.

“What were you dreaming about…? You were shouting…”

Asha couldn’t say a word and the next thing she did was to hug him. She hugged him tight and he started to rub her back slowly.

“Shh-No, no, don’t panic, love you are safe now.” He soothed and she relaxed a bit.

“I saw Tasha in my dream, it was so real. She wanted to ki*ll our unborn baby, Josh is scared.”

Josh kissed her hair. “It was just a dream, Tasha isn’t here…so now go back to sleep like a good girl should.” He said and she shook her head sideways.

“I don’t ever want to sleep again. What if-what if I dream about that again?”

“Shhh, I am here so nobody will hurt you. You need enough rest, so just go back to sleep ok?” He said and she nodded her head slowly before closing her eyes.

With her head on his chest, after a few minutes she gradually slept off.

“That is my girl.” Josh cooed and he held her all through the rest of the night.

THE LUCAS’S MANSION*

Two months later~

The loud blaring sound of the music filled the entire house and it made it difficult for someone to hear a thing.

It was Mr Lucas 60th birthday and the whole mansion was decorated in a grand way. Flowers were used as decorations and the house was so beautiful.

People were going in and out, the party was really the best anyone must have seen.

The messy living room had empty bottles laid on the ground, waiting for someone to trip over them. Asha took a step forward and picked them up.

Susan saw Asha holding the bottles as she headed for the kitchen and she hastily walked up to her.

“You are pregnant Asha, no stress!” She scolded.

“But I wasn’t stressing myself, they are just bottles mom.” Asha said as her hand rubbed her not so big stomach.

“I know but you shouldn’t walk too much, go and sit down there.”

Susan pointed at a three seater couch and Without arguing Asha walked over to it and sat down with a frown on her face.

Josh saw her and quickly rushed to her. “Baby are you ok? Are you feeling any pain?” Josh asked as Concern and worries could be seen in his eyes.

Asha rolled her eyes dramatically. “Josh is fine, I am just two months and two weeks pregnant…so no pain yet.” She replied and pecked his lips.

She understood that he was just caring and scared, since it was his first time to take care of a pregnant lady.

Soon romantic music started playing and everyone held their partners as they danced. Josh held Asha’s hand and she stood up.

“What are you doing?” She asked and before she knew it, he dragged her to the dance floor and everyone stopped dancing, as they gave the entire floor to the young couples.

“Are we going to dance or not? Because people are staring and it’s getting weird.” She chuckled.

Josh’s hands were clenched in his pockets, one pocket being the one that held a small, velvety ring box. Now was the perfect time to propose – he knew that, he’d seen it all the time in those romance movies but he was still confused.

But how did someone go about doing that? Did they just pull out the ring and go, “Will you marry me?”, or wait for the other person to talk first? There were so many questions running through Josh’s mind.

But the biggest question that triggered Josh the most was, Will she even say yes?

Susan smiled as she watched her son getting nervous, she knew he was planning to propose but it isn’t easy as it seems.

Soon, he closed his eyes and took a deep breath before kneeling down.

“Asha,” Josh said suddenly. He was sweating, it was obvious, but he didn’t care; this was his moment of bravado. He brought out the ring box out of his pocket and popped it open.

“Josh…” Asha said with a surprised expression on her face.

“We met four years ago and that resulted in having Tara. After four years, I never knew you still existed but then you started appearing in my dreams and to an extent you appeared in my room…I was hallucinating about you and I made up my mind to look for you to mend my ways. Finally, I found you and I fell endlessly for you. I did not only get infatuated by your beauty but I also love you with everything in me. So, Asha, will you marry me?”

Asha had her hand cupped over her mouth to try and hide her shock, but Josh could see from her eyes that she was smiling. Slowly, she shook her head sideways.

“But what about my schooling, I mean my studies?” She asked.

“Am not telling you to give up on your studies Asha…you can continue your schooling.” he replied and she held his hands, then he stood up.

“You have been on the floor for too long and it’s not right.” She said with a smile and suddenly crashed her lips on his.

Josh broke the kiss and smiled “Is that a yes?” he asked.

“Yes, it’s a yes.” She replied and he slipped the ring into her finger.

“Wow, congratulations to you both.” The crowd applauded as they threw Flowers at them.

She stared at the ring briefly before wrapping her hands around his neck and they kissed.
