THE MORRIS MANSION*

Mrs. Morris was in her study going through some files.

She decided not to go to the office today and she was the only one at home since Leo and Prudent has gone to school.

She tried as much as she can to understand what she was doing but it was to no avail.

She took a deep sigh and dropped her signing pen before pulling out an envelope from one of the cupboards.

She opened the book and it revealed a picture.

She caressed the picture softly, it was a picture of she and her family.

” I miss you williams, a lot.” She muttered as she placed a kiss on the picture. Then the words of Prudent replayed in her head.

” Mother indeed, a mother that cannot help her own daughter, tell me, how is she a mother? A mother that cannot stand up for her daughter all in the name of wealth and family image, tell me, how is she a mother?!”

” Don’t call my name, it’s your fault, you are the devil here…you disowned her just because she got pregnant, is pregnancy a crime?!, You will regret this mom, just know that you will…I hate you!”

” She hates me, they both hates me.” Mrs morris cried bitterly as she squeezed her hands together.

The memories of them together as a family back then, made her cry even more. She missed Asha a lot but she was just being protective.

She almost broke down the day Asha came to ask for help. She couldn’t even look at her face because she was feeling guilty.

” Am sorry williams, I couldn’t take care of them and I couldn’t attend your funeral.” She said as she stared at the picture. She sniffed in before she continued.

” I was being selfish and stupid…I didn’t want my husband to see Asha, so our family image won’t be shattered but now I realized that I have always been the devil.

She sobbed hard as she closed her mouth, trying to surpress the sound from coming out. She was feeling guilty and she hated herself right now.

” Am not sure, Asha would ever forgive me, I can’t face her… Not now.” She said and continued to sob.

SUNSHINE CITY HOSPITAL*

Asha tried feeding Tara but she shook her head side to side.

Asha was getting angry already, but she was trying her possible best not to show it. She doesn’t want to scare the Tara that just woke up from three days coma.

She has already dressed for school as she wanted to take a taxi to school when her phone rang and the doctor told her Tara’s awake.

She was so happy and quickly rushed to the hospital.

But now that Tara has refused to eat her meal, it was getting Asha really worried and she will have to ditch school today.

As if Otto could read her thoughts he called her phone and she answered the call.

📲 Hello, good morning.

📲 Morning, is everything ok?

📲 Yeah, why?

📲 Nothing really, it’s just that I haven’t seen you in school and it’s getting late.

📲 Oh, am sorry Otto, I won’t be coming to school today, something came up.

📲 oh.. ok, see you in school tomorrow then.

📲 Yeah, thanks for calling, bye.

She ended the call and dropped her phone on a table before she faced Tara.

She carried the plate of spaghetti holding a spoon of it as she took it close to Tara’s face but she shook her head side to side.

” Tara please, just eat for mommy huh?” Asha pleaded but she refused to open her mouth.

Asha didn’t know what was wrong. The doctor had told her that Tara was perfectly fine but it could be lack of appetite.

” Am not hungry.” She replied.

Her face was still kinda pale and her eyes were white like she was lacking blood.

” Baby please, just eat for mommy please.” Asha pleaded again and she shook her head sideways.

” But you haven’t eaten for three days.”

” Mommy am feeling sleepy.” Tara said ignoring what her mother said.

Asha dropped the food on the table and made her to lie properly then she covers her with the bedsheet.

She immediately fell asleep and Asha pecked her on the forehead. She was happy Tara is now awake and thankful that the drip helped her in regaining her strength.

Almost immediately her phone rang jolting her out from her thoughts.

She checked the callers ID and hissed loudly. It was her boss from the chicken delivery place she was working.

‘ what does she wants this time?’ Asha thought . After a while she answered the call and the woman’s tiny voice was heard.

📲 Hello Asha, how are you doing?

📲 Am fine… How can I help you?

📲 Asha, I know you are angry at me because if what I did, am sorry.

📲 Alright…?

📲 Can you come work for me again?

📲 Am sorry but I can’t… Employ someone else.

📲 No one is better than you… Asha you are so hard working and respectful. Please come work for me again.

📲 Alright… 8000$?

📲 But Asha that’s unfair…I normally pay you 6000$ but now I will increase it to 7000$.

📲 Am sorry but am not interested.

📲 Ok fine… 8000$.

📲 Alright… See you tomorrow ma’am.

She said and hanged up without waiting for the woman’s reply.

She was so excited that she has gotten her second job back and it’s in a bigger pay.

She looked at Tara and then broke into a smile, she held her tiny hand and caressed it slowly and softly.

” Am here baby, I will take good care of you ok? Even though daddy isn’t here, even though everyone has abandoned us. I will take good care of you… I will be your daddy and mommy. I love you.” She uttered slowly and it reminded her of camdan.

” He talks like he doesn’t have blood in him… Such a pitiful guy… Handsome, nice and pitiful.” She chuckled.

” Oh my God! What is wrong with me? Why am I suddenly thinking about guy?…stop this Asha!” She slapped her face and shook her head side to side.
