THE LUCAS’S MANSION*

Josh was still tossing and breathing heavily on the bed, with sweats on her forehead as he clutched on the bed tightly.

” Mom, mom, no please don’t go!” He half yelled as the memories of his mom kept rushing in.

He was sweating profusely despite the air conditioner in his room.

” Mom!!!” He screamed and woke up breathing heavily.

He face palmed himself, trying to get a hold of himself. Tears could be seen visible in his eyes already. The thought of him mom wants to break him down totally.

She was the only person that understood him perfectly, she had always been there for him and never neglected him despite his flaws.

But now he missed her presence a lot and wish she would come back, but there was no way she would come back.

She died in the fire that day, she took his place instead, he couldn’t protect her, he blamed himself for her death. He was twenty years old then but couldn’t do anything.

He has always been a failure and he taught going to spain would help him erase those painful memories but he was wrong.

” Am sorry mom for being a dumbass.” He said inaudibly as he hugged his knee, crying bitterly.

GOLDEN HIGH SCHOOL*

Asha cried close to an hour before leaving the washroom.

Her eyes were all puffy and someone could notice that she has cried a lot.

She arranged her hair, making a part of it to close half of her face.

She clutched tightly on her bag pack and drew her uniform skirt down a little bit. The skirt was so short and she felt uncomfortable wearing it.

But there was nothing she could do, she just needs to stay in the school for a year and that it, once she earns the certificate, she will be put of here.

For now, she just needs to endure everything and overcome the criticisms.

She was still lost in thought when she bumped into a male student and his phone fell off his hand.

” Oh, am so sorry.” She said and picked up his phone. She handed his phone over to him.

” It’s fine.” He said as he took his phone from her.

She was about taking her leave when he stopped her.

” I haven’t seen you before, you a new student?” He asked.

” Yeah, I am, I resumed today.” She said and he replied with a nod.

” Am Otto by the way” he introduced himself stretching forth his hand for an handshake.

” Am Asha.” She simply said and accepted his hand. He smiled lightly and withdrew from the handshake.

” Alright Asha, see you around.” He said as he was made to leave but she stopped him by holding his wrist.

” Please where is the teachers office?” She asked as she scratched the back of her head nervously.

HONEY SALT’S KITCHEN*

Tara sat quietly on one of the chairs. Her face was void of emotions, as she stared outside the window.

Asha was looking everywhere for her, she searched the room where they were staying but got no sight of her.

She saw lucy and approached her, asking her of Tara’s whereabouts. Lucy knew they were saying in the restaurant but had no idea why. The boss had told her not to question Asha and that’s exactly what she did.

” Yes, she’s seated over there… didn’t you see her since you came?” Lucy asked and Asha shook her head sideways.

She walked to where Tara is seated and sat opposite her.

” Baby are you ok?” She asked and Tara stared at her before she diverted her gaze to the the window again.

” Am thinking of how daddy will look like.” She said and Asha coughed slightly.

” Why are you suddenly thinking of daddy?”

” Because I want to see him, if daddy was here, we wouldn’t be staying in this restaurant right?” She asked keenly staring at her mom.

Asha bowed her head in guilt, she wish she can tell her daughter that she doesn’t really know her dad…but she’s still a child and wouldn’t accept that would she?

Asha stood up, she was already dressed up in her casual clothes. She wanted to go for her second job as she really needed money badly.

” Mommy, where are you going to?” Tara asked and she smiled.

” Mommy will be right back, you will have to stay with aunt lucy for the now ok?”

” Ok mommy, bye…I love you.” She replied and Asha kissed her on the cheek before heading out of the restaurant.

Immediately she left, lucy came and sat down beside Tara. There were not much customers by this time, so the tables were still spacious and the restaurant was quiet as everyone focused on their meals.

” Hey, kiddo, are you ok?” She asked and Tara sighed deeply before staring at her.

” Aunt lucy, do you have money?” She asked

” Money?”

” Yes.” Tara replied with a nod.

Asha arrived at the chicken delivery shop she worked.

She entered inside and saw her boss infuriated, she was sitting on one of the chairs as she tapped her legs on the floor repeatedly. It seems she was waiting for someone.

” Good evening ma’am.” Asha greeted and was about to go to the kitchen when the woman blocked her.

Asha looked at the woman with a puzzled expression. ‘ what’s happening?’ she thought.

” Where is my money Asha?” She asked.

” What money are you talking about ma’am?”

” You think I don’t know you stole my money?” She asked and Asha widened her eyes in surprise.

” Ma’am, I didn’t steal your money, please believe me.” She said and the woman scoffed.

” How do you want me to believe you, when you are the only person working here and 2000$ is missing!” She half yelled and Asha burst into tears.

” Ma’am, please believe I didn’t steal your money”

” Then open up.” The woman said and Asha stared at her feeling confused.

” What do you mean ma’am?”

” I said open up, undress yourself, let me check you myself, then I will believe you”. She said and Asha started to unbotten her clothes with tears rushing down her face.

She has already unbottened her shirt half way and was still unbottening it, when someone entered the restaurant and she turned back swiftly holding her shirt together.

” Dear, you could have knocked, we were busy” the woman complained to the person that entered the restaurant, It was her son, an high schooler.

” Am sorry mom, I just came to tell you that I carried 2000$ from your cupboard, so you wouldn’t get mad”. The boy said and she turned back looking at Asha.

Immediately Asha heard that, she bit let lips so hard, surpressing the tears that has already clouded her vision from falling.

” You should have told me sooner.”The woman said and the boy bowed his head in guilt.

” Am sorry mom.”

” It’s fine, just go to the lesson, I will take care of everything.” She said and he pecked her before leaving.

Immediately he left the woman turned to Asha smiling widely. By that time Asha has already buttoned up.

” Am sorry for the inconven…”

” No, am sorry but I can’t work here anymore” Asha said as tears gushed down her face cutting the woman off.

” But, are you sure…”

” Yes, am sure, because I can’t work in a place where my boss doesn’t trust me, am leaving.” With that she said and walked out.
