Until death – chapter 26

Until Death-chapter 26

Theme: Surprised or Shocked, part 2

“How is that possible?” I asked no one in particular, my mouth still open in incredulity as the scene in front of me unfurled itself. Surprise is the military soldier’s transformation that just turned into a reaper’s warrior. The second is Ryan, so he was the reaper’s leader all this time. That means he killed both my foster and biological dad. Lastly, my team.

“So, you are the veiled man.” I snarled at Ryan. He had just hopped down from the high place he had been sitting in earlier. He was now a few feet away from me. “You are a green snake, the black sheep that made my life miserable,” I yelled, and I could feel my voice cracking. However, I managed to hold back my tears.

“You can blame it on the soul nectar,” he replied nonchalantly. “If I know you are the last Smith, I will have killed you, ripped your chest open, and removed the soul nectar.”

“It doesn’t work that way,” I heard his stupid girlfriend correcting him. “He has to give it out willingly.

“f**k you, Ryan,” I muttered. With resentment running in my capillaries, I dipped at him. However, he stopped my attack with his palm, held my fist then twisted my hand. Before I could make another move, he hit me on the chest with his leg, sending me a few meters backward. Coughing out blood, I rose to my feet. I scrutinized him again but he is no longer on the spot.

Surrounding us now are the reaper’s soldiers, their bodies emitting black smoke. The black hood that is covering their face makes them look scary, copulating with how they are gritting their teeth together like a wolf. They had equine’s soles instead of normal human limbs, long scarves like hijab, and a metal gauntlet in each hand.

Taking a deep breath, I decided that it was time to stop hiding my power. It doesn’t even matter if I kept reserving it; those assholes already know about me. Letting out a great guttural cry, “Soul sword,” I yell. Before I could even take a step, my bow and arrow disappeared, then appeared again with the rune sword. Gathering all the strength in my leverage, I raised my sword high above my head, and I could feel the end of the sword nearly touching my back. “The Smith God of War,” I said again, lowering the sword.

Silver fire sparkled out as I bought the sword for a reaper’s head, decapitating it in the process. “The power from the night earth,” I said again as I swung my sword to the left, cutting two other reapers in the process. A boulder shot out of the ground, then fell on some reapers, killing them in the process. Their painful shrieks filled the atmosphere as the boulder crushed their skulls, and their screams boosted my enthusiasm.

“Nature’s might, thunderstorm,” I said it again, then leaped high and crossed my hand in an X sign. The sky rumbled loudly, and thunder fluttered in the sky, which struck and killed more reapers. I landed in their midst, and I could see my team slashing soldiers left and right. They stood in a degree, their backs facing each other, and cutting the reapers as they came for them.

More reapers descended on me, their black scarves flying in the air with the help of the night breeze. Without wasting any seconds, I saunter towards them. Fire from the soul nectar, soul sucker, and ice chain. I yelled. The silver fire in my body started shooting out involuntarily, burning the reapers that stood in my way. Everywhere suddenly became cold, and ice started appearing on the earth.

A reaper dived at me, and I quickly stepped aside, then slashed him with my sword. Just then, the ice that was appearing from the ground formed a long chain. Instinctively, I reached for the chain, returned my sword to its scabbard then barraged the reapers with the icy chain. It caught five men at once, then fastened around them and pulled taut itself on them. Then I felt something unimaginable. I felt myself growing more powerful, and I can feel the nectar wanting to consume more soul. I feel the nectar upgrading my energy, reflex, stability, persistence, and every component in me at the same time.

If consuming more souls will make me stronger and powerful enough to defeat all the reapers, including their leader, Ryan, then so be it. I am ready to feed it more soul. Taking another glance at my team, I could see them fighting valiantly. However, they were so focused on a spot that they missed a reaper that was diving for them. I unsheath my sword and throw it. The sharp mouth lodged itself inside the reaper’s chest, then I swung my chain at him. The icy chain wrapped around his neck, and it consumed his soul instantly.

I fetched the chain, turned back in the other direction, and pivoted at the incoming reapers. Left and right, the battle went. I felt myself moving faster than before. Despite the fact that the chain is growing long and heavy on each soul it was consuming. It doesn’t pull me down. It rather increased my strength, and it was like the chain had its mind. It was directing itself, wrapping itself around the reaper’s body, and turning them into ice or sucking their life force. I also felt my power lashing out automatically as some reapers descended on me from behind. I didn’t bother to turn or give them attention. I allowed my power to do the fighting, while the only thing I could do was instruct them in my sense.

After a long fight, my team and I slaughtered all the reapers. Their dead body, skeleton, and bones littered all around the arena ground. I examined my team, my eyes wandering around for any sign of damages or wounds except for the one they had acquired earlier, but I found none. It was like my presence gave them new strength and reason to live.

“Is that all you got?” I asked, my gaze now resting on Ryan. He is still sitting in the same position as when I met him earlier, before the fight with the Venom woman. It was like he didn’t even care about the battle going on. The same goes for the b***h beside him. “Aren’t you going to speak?” I inquired of him once more.

“I don’t have your time,” he replied frankly. “My fighter will retrieve the nectar from your heart, whether you like it or not. Besides, there is no way you will escape from this place. I have it well protected, and thousands of Nazgul are flying out there. “

That is when reality dawned on me. Ryan was trying to stop me from reaching the prancing hall. He knew the chance of getting the nectar and reviving Dark Lord Sensoi was slim if I met the processor again. That reminds me of General Zod. I wonder how it is fairing with the processor. And Lucifer’s daughter, Esther. Perhaps they are still in the afterlife. However, that also raised more questions in my head. How was Ryan able to travel in and out of the afterlife anyhow? I am very sure that he wasn’t using the multi-color portal like me. If he knew about it, he would have destroyed it. I had a lot going on in my head, and I knew only the processor could answer all my questions, which made me more determined to reach the prancing hall

“Slay his friend, and coalition him.” Ryan’s commanding the b***h behind her was audible to me.

Seeing that he had reversed his gaze away from us, I swung the glaze chain in my hand towards him. However, the chain froze in mid-air. A red light emitted from Ryan’s eyes towards the chain, which made it scatter in the process.

“I am not the same again,” he mocked. “Besides, your savior isn’t here. Now, let’s see how you will find your way out like you always do. ” He said, more in a challenging tone. And as soon as he completed his speech, the b***h beside him folded her palm and started chanting some words inaudibly. Before I could comprehend what was going on, she opened her palm and blew out some white substance.

Acting on instinct, I controlled water from nowhere and directed it to the incoming white substance. Not wasting any seconds, I dived for her, my sword aiming for her throat. However, I was a few meters from surpassing her when I started wheezing. At first, I felt my throat itching, and the coughing was enhanced. However, that doesn’t make me stop my track. I swung my sword, aimed for her throat, and made an attempt to cut her throat, but I suddenly felt my body growing weak. Black blood split out of my mouth, and I felt an invisible force choking me.

I feel myself reclining on the floor. My breathing is becoming harder and I can feel my lungs lacking air. I heard another painful shriek behind me. Glancing back in the direction, I saw my team rolling on the floor, black blood coming out of their bodies, and they were holding their throats in agony. I scour deep for my power, hoping to summon one of them to assist, but all I find are our veins. It was like a chain was binding my power. Then I felt the nectar growing hot in my chest, the pain so intense that it was like all my organs and the nectar were about to burst into flame. Leaving me no choice, I yelled out in agony as the pain became unbearable.

“What have you done to me?” I asked amidst the pain as the b***h squatted towards me. “Please, make it stop,” I begged for the first time in my life. More blood oozed out of my mouth, nose, ear, and that of my team altogether. I thought being a supernatural being was cool, fantastic, and super. However, I was wrong. I started regretting ever being a supernatural being. I blamed myself for hosting the so-called soul nectar. Finally, I cursed the day I was born into the Smith family. If I were asked to choose between human and supernatural, I would have preferred my life on the arena ground. I’ve never felt such agony in my life.

“It is nothing, darling,” the b***h teased beside me. “I know you will be foolish enough to counter the powder with liquid, and that is what it needs to be creative. You should have avoided it instead. “

“Please, make it go and I will give you the nectar,” I begged, hoping and willing with my heart that she should hearken. Even though I know I am not good at making wishes, I still hope she listens. She rolled her eyes, then bent her head as if thinking about my offer. “Oh God, please let her listen,” I mumbled inaudibly.

“No,” she stated bluntly. “Even if you don’t give me the nectar, I will still take it by impetus.” She said,

I watched in horror as she clenched her fist, and I felt a strange force choking me more tightly. Without being told, I know my team is also feeling the same things. Black blood split out of my mouth, and I started coughing vigorously. I can feel my intestines and every organ twisting in my stomach, and I can feel them burning badly as if they were placed on a fire.

“Easy sweetheart,” Ryan said with a small chuckle. He stood from his seat, then started walking towards us. He was now holding a white cup, which was filled with red liquid, and I guess that it was blood. “Let’s tell him more secrets and make him watch as we would eradicate his loved ones, revive Lord sensoi, and rule the middle earth, Gordon and Gaea altogether.”

Slowly, I felt the pain subside, and I’m sure my team would be feeling the same way. “Why are you doing this?” I managed to ask, my breath coming heavily as I tried to take in more air. “Why did you want to destroy Earth and all the realms? Why did you ki*ll my biological parents? Why are you doing all this? Just f****ng tell me why. ” I growled at him.

“You are a fool,” he snarled, then hit me with his booth on the mouth, and I could feel my lips getting battered from the attack, and my tongue tasted blood. “Not only you, but all the Smiths are also jesters, and they are too dull.”

If I had the power, I would have swooped at him and beat the trash out of him. Nonetheless, I remain calm. I wanted to follow my foster mom’s speech that says, “Know your enemy, only then can you defeat them.” I don’t want to be in haste. I wanted to stay calm. Perhaps I could get the truth out of his mouth. “Mr. Ryan,” I said, and he snapped his head at me. I can guess the reason for that. I have never respected him before, not when he was dating my mom. Please, clarify everything for me. I mean from the beginning. ” I begged.

Finally, he takes a deep breath, then sips from the blood in the white goblet. “Sweetheart,” he said. ” Show him the truth.”

Letting out an evil chuckle, the b***h moved closer to me. She squatted down until I reached her, and then she removed her wig. After that, she removed a mask from her face, and I was flabbergasted by the sight in front of me.

“Don’t be surprised, kid,” Ryan said behind me, his voice jolting me out of my thoughts. I directed my gaze to myself, and I was more than astonished at the figure in front of me. “It was all planned from the beginning,” Ryan said it again, and I felt my heart breaking into a thousand pieces. “I just realized that I made a mistake by not knowing you were the one we were looking for.”

I shake my head as tears cascade from my eyes. I have been a fool from the beginning. My foster mom is Ryan’s wife, and Ryan is our Sunday school preacher, Pastor Sam. “How is that possible?” I managed to ask, my voice coming out more like a whisper. Still finding it hard to believe what was happening, I asked again. “How can you be at all? How can you be pastor Sam, Ryan, and the veiled man at the same time? “

“Everything is possible, young boy.” He said. Especially with the help of magic, nothing is impossible.

“You are a liar,” I yelled, and my heart swelled more. “It is an illusion, a trick; magic itself doesn’t exist.” even though I knew it was a lie. I knew magic existed, but I didn’t want to believe it.

My mom said, “You are making a mistake. Besides, I am a necromancer.”

“We are omnipresent.” Ryan chirps in. “This is how it began.”
