EPISODE FORTY ONE

LIZZY

I panicked as I watch Alexa pass out.
I don’t know if she knows the girl in my dream or not.
If she knows her then maybe she would be able to help me solve the mystery of why I am always dreaming about that girl.

Thank God for PE classes. I know how to perform CPR, so I hope she’d respond to my resuscitation.

I opened most of the windows in the classroom so she can breath in fresh air.
She needs proper ventilation at a time like this.

I didn’t call 911 as they always advised us in class because I’m sure she’d definitely wake up after the CPR since she only fainted due to shock.

I moved closer to the unconscious Alexa and opened her airway to check for breathing.
I placed two fingers on her Adam’s apple to check for pulse.
Her pulse was not quite strong which is understandable.
I tilted her mouth upward and breath in her mouth for five seconds.
She coughed twice and finally she opened her eyes.
Hurray!

“Where am I?” Alexa asked gruffly.

“We are still in school. You passed out while we were talking” I explained to her.
She stared at me so hard that I begin to feel slightly uncomfortable.
I think she is trying to remember what we talked about before she passed out.
Just then Landon walked into the class.

” What is happening hrre?” Landon asked when he saw Alexa who was just getting off the floor.

“I’ve been looking for you everywhere. I thought you went missing” Landon said to me and I chuckled sweetly.
Why would I go missing when I somehow know this place like the back of my hands.

“I can’t go missing, silly” I said.

“Alexa, what happened?” he asked her.

“We were talking when she just passed out”

“What were you talking about? ” Landon asked.

“Promise me you won’t freak out if I tell you” I said.

“I promise” he said solemnly.

I narrated all my dreams to him.
The conversation with Alexa, why I screamed out in pain at his friend’s house yesterday and finally the reason for Alexa’s passing out.
He looked at me in shock as I finished explaining everything to him.

“If not that you are my stepcousin, I’d have believed you are Dana because there is no other explanation to why you are having dreams about Dana regularly” Landon said.

“I find it strange as well. I mean I don’t even know this girl so why should I be dreaming about her”

“Hey guys. I need to go home now.
Hunter must have been waiting for me for long” Alexa said.
Here eyes are no longer cloudy.
It looks really bright right now.

“Goodbye dear. Please make sure you have enough rest. Tomorrow is going to be a long day” Landon said to her.

“Yeah, thanks. Goodbye, Lizzy” she said.

“Goodbye dear. I’m sorry for stressing you out” I apologised.

We waved at each other and Alexa left the classroom.

“Let’s go home already. Your mom might be worried” Landon said.

“Yeah. Let’s go”

💭 WEDNESDAY💭

❤️ OLIVER❤️

I woke up after sleeping for barely four hours.
Today is a day I’ve been looking forward to, although I’m also dreading it at the same time.
I just want to put it behind me.
No matter the sentence the judge would pass to Ms. Kilpatrick, I don’t think it can overshadow her crimes.
I just have to console myself with the fact that she’d be getting served with what the law think she deserves.

I’d have loved not to appear in court as I’m still mourning my dad, but I have to testify against Ms. Kilpatrick because Hunter cannot appear in court.
Not with him mistaking Alexa for Dana.
He would just ruin everything, so it has been agreed that he won’t be coming to the court today.

I left my room and I went to check on mom in her room.
She was still sleeping when I got there and I left her room because I don’t want to disturb her.
She has not been sleeping since Sunday so I added some sleeping pills into her water.

I went back to my room to get dressed.
I finished dressing up in no time and I went to the kitchen to make breakfast for mom and I.

I was surprised to see a lot of food in the refrigerator and in the microwave.
I know mom didn’t cook all these food so it means it was brought by our friends.

I dished some lasagna for myself and I took a can of soda from the refrigerator.
I took my food to my room and I refused to let my gaze linger on my dad’s room or else I won’t be able to eat.

+ + +

” You guys are here” I called out in surprise as I met the boys in the living room.

“Yeah. We are all going to court together” Jason said.

“Okay, let’s go. I don’t want you guys to disturb my mom’s sleep with your noise”

I was surprised to see the girl who came with Landon on Monday outside my house.

“Is she also going to the court with us?” I asked Landon.

“Yeah. She doesn’t care about skipping classes for today” Landon said.

“Hey, I’m right here guys” she said while rolling her eyeballs at us.

“Sorry, ma’am” I held up my hands in surrender.

Everyone entered their cars and we all drove down to court.

❣️ ALEXA❣️

Uncle Evan did not go to work today.
He is going to the court with aunt Kate and I.

Hunter has gone to school already because he can’t testify in court due to his partial memory loss.
He doesn’t recognise me as Alexa, but as Dana.
How is he going to admit that he went on a mission to clear Alexa’s name when he can’t remember who the heck Alexs is.

We drove to the courthouse in silence as no one was in the mood to make small talks.

+ + +

The courtroom is filled to the brim with different people.

The defendant( Ms. Kilpatrick) was lead into the dock by two female cops.

The lawyers to each party was sitting at the counsel tables neae the bench.

The judge is seated on the elevated platform which is usually referred to as the ‘bench’.

A court reporter was sitting near the witness stand. He is to record everything that would be said during the trial.

The court clerk is seated near the judge.
A lot of other people who are interested in the case were also present in court.

I heard a familiar voice calling my name and it turned out to be Jason.
He was sitting with the guys and Lizzy was also there.
I walked over to them and I sit beside Landon.

Everywhere became quiet as the proceedings began with the introduction of the plaintiffs, which in this case is Oliver, Hunter and I, the defendant which is Ms. Kilpatrick, and the attorneys- Barr. Higgins for the plaintiffs and Barr. Colt for the defendant.

“Do you admit that you defamed Ms Alexandra Smith by making an offensive post on the school blog” the judge’s booming voice could be heard from any corner of the courtroom.

“No, my lord. I am not guilty of that crime” the evil woman said.
She is still denying shamelessly.

I was called out into the witness stand and I was made to repeat an oath after the clerk.

“Ms. Smith, would you like to tell us how my client defamed you” Barr. Colt said.
I gave a small nod which might not have been noticed by everyone in court and I took a deep breath.

“Ms. Kilpatrick made an anonymous post on the school blog about me.
She accused me of committing matricide.
The post has been brought down from the blog, but not without it causing a lot of damage to me and some other people” I said.

“You mentioned that it was an anonymous post. How can you conclude that it was my client who made this post?” Barr. Colt asked me.

“My cousin and his friend hired a private investigator to help them track down the anonymous poster.
The private investigator gave them the address of the person who was making the posts and it turned out to be Ms. Kilpatric’s family house in Arkansas” I said without implicating Dave who had helped us track the IP address of the anonymous poster.

“She was just there for vacation. How can you accuse your teacher of this crime” Barr. Colt said.

“Objection, my lord” Barr. Higgins countered.

“Objection overruled” the judge said.

I turned to the judge and asked a question.

“My lord, would you be kind enough to permit me to play a voice recording?”

“Yes, Ms. Smith. As long as it is relevant to solving the case” the judge said and I feel hopeful that this would yield a good result.

I gave my phone to the court clerk who connected it to a loudspeaker and I pressed play.
The courtroom was filled with my voice, the principal’s voice, my uncle’s voice, Laura’s voice and Ms. Kilpatric’s voice.

It was the recording I made when I went to the police station with uncle Evan and Laura to face Ms. Kilpatrick.
I had a feeling that I’d need the recording someday and here I am.

“I was shocked to see Alexa come here because she really resembles Bryan, and I began to hate her.
I thought of all means to send her out of this town, so I began to post all those things on the blog” I pressed stop when the recording get to the part where Ms. Kilpatrick was confessing about her sins.

I’m very sure her lawyer have no idea about the meeting we had with her that day or else he would have advised her not to admit to anything, but their own ill luck is going to be my own good luck.

I looked up at Ms. Kilpatrick and her eyes were almost popping out of her socket in shock.
I know she didn’t expect this.

“I hereby sentence Ms. Matilda Kilpatrick to a year in prison with hard labour for defaming Ms Smith’s character.
She is also going to pay a fine of 💲1000” the judge announced.
I know the sentence is small but my lawyer already told me that is the appropriate punishment for libel/slander.

I moved out of the witness stand and I walked back to my seat.

❤️ OLIVER❤️

“The next case is the kidnap case between Mr Oliver Colston, Mr Hunter Sawyer and Ms. Matilda Kilpatrick.
The plaintiffs should come to the witness stand” the clerk announced.

I stood up and made my way to the front where the witness stand is located.
I stepped in and the clerk asked me to repeat the oath after him.

“My clients were kidnapped and tortured by Ms. Kilpatrick” my lawyer began.

“Are you guilty of the crime or not?” the judge asked.

“I’m not guilty” she said confidently.

What nerve!

“Mr Colston, were you kidnapped and tortured by the this woman?” the judge asked me.

“Yes, your honour. My friend and I were tortured by Ms. Kilpatrick for almost a week” I replied.

“Did she abduct you?”

“No. It’s not the usual way of kidnapping.
Alexa was accused of committing matricide and we had to find out who was behind it.
We hired a private investigator who gave us the address of the anonymous poster and we decided to go and check it out.

On getting there, Hunter and I were shocked to see that the person making the posts was none other than our English teacher.
She stunned us with a tranquilizer and we passed out immediately.
Our torture began when we became conscious, and we were not given a droplet of water not to talk of food throughout our stay in that horrible place”

I hate recounting that experience and I hope I don’t have to go through such kind of agony in my life again.

“What is your proof that my client tortured you?” Barr. Colt asked me.

I brought out some pictures from my bag and handed it over to the judge.

“My lord, those pictures were taken inside Ms. Kilpatric’s family house in Arkansas where my friend and I were tortured.
The photos were taken by the cops who came to rescue Hunter and I” I explained.

In the pictures, our battered bodies were on display and each of the rooms in that house were also captured on camera.

“My lord, what if these photos has been photoshopped?” Barr. Colt said.

“The forensics guys would work on this.”

The Court gave us time to go and have our lunch while we are awaiting the result from the forensics lab.

+ + +

“Order!” the court clerk shouted and normalcy was restored to the court.

“I have just gotten the report from the laboratory and it shows that the pictures are real and not photoshopped.
Here is my judgement: Ms. Matilda Kilpatrick is hereby sentenced to twenty five years in prison with hard labour for kidnapping and torturing Mr Oliver Colston.
She is also sentenced to another twenty five years in prison with hard labour for kidnapping and torturing Mr Hunter Sawyer.
That makes it fifty years in prison” the judge announced.

The guys hugged me tightly and I feel relieved that at last justice has finally prevailed.

TBC.

Ms. Kilpatrick is going to prison for fifty one years🤔

N.B: I’m not a law student or an art student, so the way I wrote about the court case might not be correct, but please bear with me.

By the way, what Lizzy did while waking Alexa up was quite wrong.
The first thing to do in such instance is to dial 911 (or its equivalence in your country) before any other thing.
Let’s be mindful of this in real life.

Peace out✌️💕💞✌️
