“Problem after problem after problem!” If this doesn’t get straightened out I will have somebody’s head on my f****ng table”

Joshua shouted from his office. The door is closed but he is still so loud. I walk up to the door. He slammed his fist on the desk. “Get it Right”

“I don’t care, he needs to know that I have drawn the line, it’s enough!”

I leaned a bit closer and the floor squeaked. “I’ve got to go” he said and I heard him walking towards the door.

I darted down the hall to the bedroom and jumped on the bed.

His sleek figure appeared from around the corner. “What are you doing?” He asked sternly. As if I was a child doing something I wasn’t supposed to do.

“N-nothing” I accidentally stuttered.

“I have to go to work. I’ll be back in an hour”

“What time is it?” I asked.

“Two” he glanced at his watch.

He stood there awkwardly. “Okay” I finally said.

He walked off and I heard his footsteps continue down the steps. He can be so mean sometimes, I don’t understand.

I get up and play some music from my computer, checking my emails and singing loudly to the songs trying to pass the time and feel better.

But I’m sad today. And the only way I can feel better is by torturing myself and listening to more sad songs. I slowly click on my Frank Ocean playlist, debating on whether this is a good choice for me right now, but it’s whatever.

I move into the bathroom and start to run a bath. “I need to relax” I remind myself. “Forget yesterday”

I put on my bathrobe and walk downstairs to look for a bottle of wine. Quickly finding the nicest bottle of Chardonnay and the biggest glass I could reach in the tall cabinet.

It wasn’t long before I was comforted by the warm water and bubbles that made my skin soft. I took a sip. The sweet and sour taste of the white wine, the thoughts running through my head and the somber music playing melodies in my ear.

It wasn’t long before I was crying. And it wasn’t long before I regretted my decision.

“Alone again… alone again… alone” Mac Demarco was playing when I opened my eyes.

I didn’t realize I had fallen asleep. I drank about half the bottle of wine. I heard footsteps walk in the bathroom and I saw someone look down at me.

I stood up out of the bath water and grabbed my robe. Joshua stood there looking at me.

I picked up my computer and turned off the music. Then grabbed the bottle of wine and kept drinking.

“What’s going on?” He asked me.

“Nothing” I yawned and put down my computer. “I fell asleep”

“In the bath? That’s not safe” he sat on the bed. “And your drunk!” He shouted.

“I’m not drunk, I’m drinking” I said waving the bottle around. “There’s a difference and why are you back?”

“It’s five in the afternoon”

I walk into the closet and look for something cozy to wear. A sweatshirt and some leggings.
“I hope your not going anywhere with those clothes”

I look at him and don’t say anything. Making my way to the door. “I’ll be back later”

“Where are you going?”

“Out!” I yell as I’m walking down the steps and into the kitchen. “Nate can you take me to my friends house please?” I ask him.

“Of course” he said sternly.

We got in the car and made our way to John’s house. I haven’t seen John since the auction and I kind of miss him. Plus he might be able to help me make sense of Joshua’s mood.

I knock on his door and a few moments later he answers.

“Valentina Matrix, my favorite girl in the world” he smiles.

I reach toward him and hugged him tightly. He smelled like cologne. “Where are you going?” I asked him.

“To my room” he laughed and closed the door after I walked in the house. “How is life with Joshua Maxwell?” He asked as he walked into the kitchen.

I sat down on the barstool and rested my hand on my head. “He so… different” I said. “He’s calm and relaxed one day, then he’s mad and yelling the next, then he’ll be kind and romantic, then he’s bad to mean and controlling”

“Sounds bipolar, is it too late to get out of this?”

He grabbed a bottle of red wine and poured me some. I had some earlier but I guess I can do for some more.

“I mean we haven’t had sex yet, I could pay him back the money we used and be done with it” I drank a little.

“Then why don’t you do that?”

“Because I like him, John” I said sadly. “He took me to Paris a few days ago and I met his family. I told him that I was falling in love”

“Are you?”

“I don’t know, I feel like I am but then he does something to make me rethink everything I thought before”

I looked at John and he looked concerned. “You don’t have to do this Valentina. If you don’t want to be lead on by him then leave, tell him you can’t continue to feel that way”

“I made a deal I can’t just back out of it. He bought something from me and I have to give it to him”

“Then tell him to get it over with” he said quickly.

I looked at him and he was avoiding my eyes. He’s mad. He’s angry. He doesn’t like Joshua, he never did.

“I don’t know, just a thought”

“Thank you, John” I stood up and hugged him tight. “I don’t know what I’d do with out you”
“I just don’t like that he’s hurting you like that”

“I’m fine, I’ll be fine” I looked into his eyes. “I’ve got to go” I let him go and walked to the door. “I’ll talk to him tonight, I’ll report back to you as soon as I can, Sir!” I marched to the door.

He didn’t say anything. “Don’t look so sad” I pushed his brown hair away from his face. “I’ll see you later” I kissed his cheek and walked towards the car.

“See ya kiddo” his voice shook.

For a second I thought he was crying but his face was just red. He’s so cute when he’s angry.
