After three weeks, he managed to break down all my defenses in seconds. Just two words had me breaking down in front of him.

“He’s sorry?”

For what exactly. Hurting me, crushing my heart and soul or still marrying her after everything.

“Just tell me, what part did I play on your road to happiness?”

“Lina. I never used you if that’s what you’re thinking.”

“You’re getting married! You already have a son! You’ll live happily every after.”

“What!”

He fired back as his face fell. He actually looked genuinely sad and shocked.

“That’s not what this is. Let me explain once and for all, please.”

He pleaded taking my hand. I didn’t have the strength to shrug him off.

“Explain.”

I demanded gritting my teeth.

“Daniella was my girlfriend. We were in a bad state and I had already told her it was over between us. I was sick and tired of her tantrums. So I decided to have a drink but it was too much and she ended up coming to get me and we had sex that night. It’s not like in the movies where she forced me, I remember her begging me to touch her and I did. I was too drunk to say no. ”

He finished off and took a deep breath. It still doesn’t change anything though.

“A few months later, she showed up claiming she was pregnant because after that night I told her I didn’t want to see her again. I doubted it and took a sample and went to a hospital of my choosing far away from the city, I had it tested there and then and it turned out I was the father.”

He paused again letting me take it all in..

“When I was young, I didn’t get to feel the love of her father. He abandoned us so I wasn’t about to do that to my own kid. I had to take him in and so I did. I got her a nice house, kept her well fed and all and then I’ll visit regularly. That was my life. Then you showed up. Daniella was asking us to get back together again so I had a few drinks and I don’t know why but I just wanted to get laid, we all know how that ended up ”

He actually chuckled and I did too remembering how we met.

“You were the variable uncounted for but I couldn’t control myself. Daniella found out and threw more tantrums. Then, a month ago she told me I had to marry her or she would take Justin away from me. A court would agree with the mother of course. I was going to loose my son.”

His voice cracked at the end. My walls broke.

“I couldn’t make a decision. I went to Ethan and he said I should agree but make the terms and that’s why I currently have custody of Justin but I have to marry her, it was the agreement.”

“Ethan told you to agree. Didn’t he say go to court first at least.”

I spoke up for the first time feeling any undescribeable feeling towards him.

“No. I didn’t think of that either, I just wanted my son back and that’s why we’re here now. I swear I never wanted to hurt you or use you or play you. I never meant to cause you pain, I’m so sorry Lina.”

I sniffled at his confession. Now that I think of it, he was just being a good friend. None of this was his fault. He was just a victim of circumstance.

“I’m sorry I didn’t listen. I should’ve.”

I moved closer to him. I could hear his shallow breathing.

Suddenly, I heard a knock on my door. I assumed it was Mr Luther so I walked to open it.

“Lina, you’re still…”

Ethan says but his eyes moved to Stefan.
