CHAPTER FORTY SEVEN

Joel happily drove into the compound, Melody was back home. He came down from the car and walked to the other side to open the door for her. darkness had already settled in the sky, he had decided to wait till night before going to pick her up from the hospital.

“Welcome home Bambi” He smiled.

“Thanks, Soldier boy” Melody chuckled slightly, she turned and waved at the gateman, who in turn waved back at her too.

They walked into the house, Joel’s parents were already in the sitting room smile plastered on their faces. Melody slowly walked to the elderly woman and hugged her like her life depended on it. “Welcome home, my child” the woman said caressing her back.

“Thanks Mom” She replied, shifting to where Joel’s father stood, she hugged him briefly before going back to Joel. “Welcome home dear, we missed you” the man said with a sigh.

“Thanks Dad” Melody replied all smiles.

“Okay, let’s go to the room, you need to rest now” Joel said holding Melody on her waist with his right hand and holding her left hand with his other hand.

“Okay son” his parents replied.

They slowly but steadily climbed the stairs with Melody supporting herself with the rail. They got to Joel’s room and entered inside, Melody walked straight to the bed and sat down.

“Do you need anything, Bambi?” Joel asked, his chest almost bursted open with the way joy filled his heart.

“No, soldier boy, am fine” Melody reassured.

Joel shrugged and sat down with her on the bed. “I missed you” he said sparing her a glance.

“What happened to the bas***d?” Melody asked through gritted teeth.

“He was killed. I slashed his shaft and electrocuted him to death” Joel replied with a hint of pride in his voice.

“Okay” she shrugged. she didn’t want to cry. Joel walked towards the television, he brought his phone and connected it to the auxiliary cord plugged into the DVD. “Duduke by Simi” played calmly in the background, He fished a ring out from his trouser pocket and knelt on one knee.

“What are you doing?” Melody asked. She had been watching him closely.

“Bambi, i want to grow old with you, can you give me the privilege of making you happy the rest of your life?. You are my life, without you, i will suffocate to death. Melody, please marry me” he completed.

“Oh Joel, i love you too. You truly love me even though i came from the slums, you are my knight in shining armor. yes, i will be your wife” she wiped the tears that already poured.

“Yes” Joel jumped and punched his fist in the air. He walked towards her and slipped the ring on her finger sitting beside her on the bed. “I so much love you, Bambi” he said turning to stare fully at her.

“I love you too, Captain” Melody replied.

“When are we going to see your people?” Joel asked.

“I don’t have people, just my maternal Aunt who stays far away in Lagos” she shrugged.

“No paternal relative?”

“They are distant relatives and my marriage doesn’t concern them, we will just meet my maternal Aunt and her husband. they have been helpful since my parents died” she replied casually.

“Are you a ghost?” Joel asked abruptly.

“Yes, am a ghost and i will eat your flesh in the night” she opened her eyes wide and took her eyeballs up trying to look scary.

“I wouldn’t even mind being in love with a ghost, because this thing i feel for you? is the Zenith” he chuckled.

“Werey” she eyed him.

“I know what that means ooo, don’t think i don’t understand your language” Joel bragged.

“You understand nothing oga, everyone know what werey means” she cackled.

“Look at this one” Joel chuckled.

“How is “I love you” said in your language?” she asked.

“I won’t tell, you will have to pay me” He smirked.

“Olodo, didn’t you promise to teach me your language?” she eyed him.

“Afurum gi na Anya” he replied Swiftly.

“What does it mean?” Melody asked still eyeing him.

“I love you, that’s what it means na” he shrugged.

“Wow, i can’t wait to learn your language and speak freely with it” she smiled.

“I will personally teach you, Bambi, but not for free though” he chuckled again.

“Oya how much should i pay you?”

“Not monetary payment. I just want you to forget the past and focus on the future” he took her hands and squeezed lightly.

“Yes, Captain” she gave him a mock salute and laughed.

“I love you so much, you make my life complete” Joel said claiming her lips in a kiss, she kissed him back with so much vigor and carressed his back soothingly.
