For breakfast this morning the twins and I were having cereals and strawberries shavings.

I was already up since three in the morning drawing up a schedule for a meeting Jack….I mean, Mr Gunther, had with a business partner from Italy.

And as you guessed right, I happened to be super nervous this morning. That something in my mind kept telling me that anything Italy meant…..well, you know. But I’m a practical lady now, and I know that it’s impossible for Salvatore VEW to be the business partner.

Having finished with setting the bowls and spoons on the table along with a box of dried cornflakes and a jug of milk, I woke Leon and Lian up to brush and come down for breakfast.

“Good morning mommy,” Lian said.

“Hi mommy,” Leon said.

I placed kisses on both their foreheads as they scrambled up their seats.

“Which reminds me guys, I couldn’t find my phone yesterday or this morning. Any ideas where it could be?” I asked looking between them.

“Nope.”

“Nuh uh.”

If I expected them to come clean, then I was wasting my time. Besides, I was running late for work.

Simultaneously hopping on one foot to wear my shoe and stuffing stuff into my handbag, I took a spoonful of cornflakes which Lian offered me into my mouth.

“OK guys, get your coats and step outside. I’m gonna drop you at daycare before passing to the company.”

They began whining and howling in protest.

“We wanna stay home,” Lian said.

“Yeah,” Leon supported.

Internally I groaned.

“Fine, Wendy’s coming over later. Read your books and most importantly….”

“BE GOOD!” We three chorused at the Same time.

“We will. Promise, cross our hearts!”

“That’s nice. Bye.”

Once outside, I exhaled greatly as if releasing the pressure the little guys put on me. They could be extreme sometimes. But I still loved them. And no matter what, I’m gonna take care of them lovingly…. I’ll give them the kind of love and care which my own foster parents couldn’t give me, or that Emilio’s mother could never show her son, talk less of my little kids.

.

Less than twenty minutes later, I arrived at Gunther America and paid the cabman his fare. A moment passed in which I calmed my breath and prayed so hard that the Italian business partner shouldn’t be SVEW. Mounting the few steps that led to the entrance, I sent courtesan nods and mumbled good mornings to other employees and workers who returned them back smilingly and warmly. Yeah, I was kinda popular around here for being the mother of two adorably troublesome kids, and for being the latest fish for Mr Gunther. Not that I cared.

On getting to my work desk, Jack came out of his office and smiled at me.

“You’re here.”

“Yeah, sorry I’m late.”

“I understand, the L², right?”

My laugh and nod came out at the same time.

This morning, Jack didn’t look so bad. In fact, have never looked so bad. I don’t know what got into me last night.

Perhaps I don’t want to d8 him or anyone.

“So how’s the ulcer?” he asked, tucking his hands in his pants pockets.

“Ulcer?” I repeated confused.

“Yeah, the one in your feet?”

“Oh….he he he, it’s… better this morning I guess. Swell.”

“Glad to hear. So, everything set for Mr Salvatore?”

I froze.

“S-s-s-s-Salvatore?” I stuttered.

“Hmm.”

“Uh….yeah. Swell.”

“Good.”

He disappeared back into his office and I fanned myself with my hand.

Oh gee….I think I’ll pass out any minute from now.

Emilia

.

I’m super excited now…. I’ve regained my memories.

Completely.

I’m a Salvatore, I’ve got a handsome but annoying twin brother Emilio, and beautiful girlfriends I hung out with!

And a mother in the person of Portia Salvatore. The devil herself.

I confronted her in prison yesterday, shoving it in her face that she’s lost and will keep on loosing over and over again! Of course she yelled and pleaded and yelled some more, but I knew the truth.

Seriously, I wonder what had happened in all the years I’ve been away!

And now, I’m Standing in front of the door….and I knocked.

A beaming Prudence opened the door, and her smile faltered when she saw me.

“Em….Emilia?”

I nodded.

“Prudence.”

Weeping for joy, she threw her arms around me and I did too, attracting the attention of the others in the house who were all happy and excited to see me.

Emilio, Sophia, Cosima, two other guys and a little boy.

But where’s dad?

….

“Wow, a lot have happened in the years I’ve been away,” I breathed out and ran my palm across my face, trying to get used to the fact that papà was no more.

And everyone had grown up.

And my brother’s in love!

I mean, I’d never have suspected that!

Chuckling, I punched his arm.

“So, bro, any plans on getting your sweetheart back?” I teased.

“Yup. As a matter of fact, I feel like I’m closer than ever.”

“So let’s head to America!”

“Seriously Lia, you just got back! Aren’t you like, going to get a beauty sleep or something?” Cosima interjected and, as always, looking at her nails.

”Tish tosh Cosi. This is a matter of life and death. Literally. Emilio, I’ll go freshen up and then we’ll catch the plane to NY.”

Gosh, I’m a nervous wreck.

It’s like two minutes before the meeting.

Better to get everything over and done with and convince myself that I was still safe from Emilio.

Jack Gunther and me and two other staff were standing at the entrance when a fleet of three cars pulled up in the driveway and one by one people came out. Mostly men in black.

Bodyguards, I remembered with a chill.

Now the door of the middle car opened, and just as whoever it was was about exiting, my phone buzzed.

Yeah, I found it in my bag on arrival to my workstation and I immediately knew that it was the twins work.

I held it to my face and recognized Wendy’s number.

It’s gotta be about the twins.

“Excuse me sir, I have to take this,” I muttered to Jack and went before he could response.

.

Turned out that she called to ask me if Leon took sausages with his casserole. He did, and I informed her. Lian took hers plain, and that was another difference between them other than the main difference which was that Leon’s a boy and Lian’s a girl.

Ha ha.

So now I’m rushing towards the boardroom with a tray of coffee mugs and cookies because Jack insisted that we had to make a good impression on our Italian guests and yada yada yada. Hypocrisy if you ask me.

I was so focused in my thoughts about hypocrisy and my hurrying to meet up that I didn’t notice the people moving towards me or their murmured chatter until I bumped tray-first-head-next into something muscular and had all the mugs cookies and tray flying in the air and down to me as my butt met the floor.

And when I recovered, I was staring into familiar greyish black eyes…..

Oh crap!
