The ranger was blabbing about something, something I was trying to listen to but little Misses Pretties were disturbing me. I sighed and smacked my forehead

‘Hey Mr Ranger!!!!!’ I shouted. He stopped and looked at me ‘what will happen if two people are caught fighting?’

‘Detention’ I smiled and looked between the girls. ‘Are they fighting?’

‘They are about to’

‘Better don’t’ he commanded and continued with what he was doing. Arie scoffed

‘You’re so mean’

‘And you’re both annoying’

‘I don’t like fighting but she won’t let me be. She’s not giving me a choice here’ Abbie sighed. I rolled my eyes

‘Remember that you must return with a flag before the time runs out. You have three hours to find the flag and the unlucky teams to return without one will be opted out. So are you ready?’

‘You bet your butter bean I am’ someone chirped. I sighed

‘Now each team should come get a map to all the locations of the flag’

‘I’ll get it’ Arie chirped and ran to get it

‘Were you two like friends or something?’

‘Best friends’

‘Should I care why you’re fighting?’

‘Over a boy, she won’t believe me’ she sighed

‘Okay, I don’t care again’ she nudged my side and laughed

‘You know the funny thing, I didn’t get your name well, so?’

‘Anjiála Delgado but you’re free to call me Anji’

‘Nice name, what does it mean?’

‘Was I suppose to find out?’ I asked itching my neck. She shook her head with a wide smile and looked ahead.

Later we went to find the flag. Arie wore a flare gown and sneakers, who wears that to camp! Abbie stuck with skinny jeans, a black shirt with a orange mini leather jacket over it and heels. This girls need help

‘My heels are killing me’ she complained

‘That’s because you’re wearing heels’ I scoffed. She murmured and sighed.

‘I hate this heels’ she huffed and took them off’

‘Arie it feels like we’ve been walking in circles for ages, what’s going on?’ I asked folding my arms. She waved the map

‘I’m the one with the map and I know how to read it’

‘Yeah, she’s right’ Abbie agreed. I rolled my eyes

‘Well I’ve seen that rock ten times now’

‘No, this treasure map says we’re going the right way’

‘Treasure map?’ Abbie asked emotionlessly

‘Yeah, the one I found under Mr Ranger’s book, I took it and that’s where We’re going’ I snatched the map and studied it

‘Ariana! This isn’t a treasure mark, it’s a map marking all the bad spot in the forest, the spots no one must go and we’re at the very top of the falling mountain!!!!’

‘Oh’ she said grinning nervously. ‘My bad’

‘We have to get out of here’ Abbie panicked and ran

‘Abbie don’t run’

‘Don’t tell me what to do Ariana. You brought us I to this meeeeeeeeessss!’ She screamed as she fell off the mountain. The earth under her feet withered.

‘Abbiana!’ Arie cried running to the edge too

‘Wait you fo…..and she’s gone’ Arie screamed as she fell too. ‘You’ve got to be kidding me!’ I tiptoed to the spot and looked down. Abbie was holding on to a rock while holding Arie.

‘Anji, get us up’

‘That’s not gonna be easy’ I shouted

‘Do what do we do? I don’t want to die, I’m an only child’ Arie cried

‘You have two younger brothers’

‘Those annoying pigs are are not my brothers. I’m an only child’ she whined childishly. I looked down and saw the stream, I calculated it and smiled

‘Can you both swim?’ I asked

‘I’m the captain of the swim squad in my school’ Arie said smugly

‘I’m afraid of water. I almost drowned in a iceberg when I was six. I can’t go close to any river or sea or lake….’

‘Really? Because there’s a raging one below you and he only way out of here is down’ I said tightening my combat boots lace.

‘No no no no no’

‘Oh shut up. Even if you fall, you’re still going to end up in the water. Don’t worry, ilk take care of you’

‘I’m going to die!’ She wailed

‘Yes you are. There’s a scorpion heading our way’ Arie panicked. They screamed in fright telling me to help them

‘Jump’

‘I can’t’ Abbie sobbed

‘You can and you must. Arie be ready to assist her in the water’ I picked up a rock and threw it at the hand holding the rock. Abbie screamed and fell down with Arie. I exhaled and flexed my shoulders before diving Into the stream too

The coldness of the water made me shiver. I swam to the surface trying to control the current of it. The force was strong and by my calculation, we were heading for a rapid, a strong one

‘Abbie!!!! Arie!!!!’ I shouted

‘Over here’ Arie shouted from a rock. I swam to them and she helped me climbed the rock. ‘So what now?’

‘We’re heading for a rapid and you know that after every rapid….’

‘Comes a waterfall’ she completed. Abbie was shaking and hugging her herself. ‘We don’t have a choice, that log can help and this vine I found’ she said calmly lifting a strong vine. I took it and wrapped it up. ‘In the count of three, jump into the log’

‘Are you crazy! We’re going to die’ Abbie cried.

‘No, we won’t we grabbed her hands and stood up, dragging her along. ‘In my three’ I said

‘Okay we’re going to c….’

‘Three!’ Arie and I shouted and jumped pulling her along. She screamed. We landed on the log but the log turned over because if the force. Arie and I successfully turned it and helped Abbie up before we climbed too. The rapid came, Abbie screamed the whole time hugging me while we tried to scale through. We survived it

‘Thank God that’s over. Waters are evil’ Abbie said still crying

‘No, that was just the beginning. Here comes the mother of the rapid’ I said bringing out the vines. I flung it around circularly before aiming it at a tree, it tightened. ‘Hold on to me Abbie, Arie can you manage?’ I asked praying she can. She nodded. ‘Good’

‘In three’ she smiled

‘Three!’ I shouted and jumped. I flung on the branch and collided with the tree, Abbie was holding me. Arie collided too and we went to the ground

‘When someone said in three, you have to count to three, not just jump’ Abbie huffed. I shrugged. It seems Arie is more adventurous than her

#Fast_forward >>>>>>>>>>>>>

We walked down a set of slippery rocks along the waterfall, we found a way around the water and was trying to find our way home.

‘So how come you know so much about the forest?’ Arie asked hopping from one rock to the other. ‘I only know about water’

‘My dad used to take me camping. I started camping at 3. By the time I turned 6, he left me because he wanted a son and not a daughter. Turns out he was married before but his wife couldn’t conceive so he moved here and married mom. Unfortunately, the night of their wedding was the day his first wide delivered the news of her pregnancy. He didn’t want to lose both so he waited until she had a son for him and mom had me a year later. He pretended to both women until I was six and she had two more sons along the way, he got bored and went for the wife with the sons’

‘And how did you know?’ Abbie asked suspiciously

‘He told mom to her face and left us. I was standing by the window looking at them so I heard everything he yelled out. The other wife don’t know about us because mom decided to leave it be. She raised me on her own’ I said sadly. I just told them my life story, sort of.

‘Men are so annoying’ Abbie huffed

‘And dogs’ Arie added. ‘Thanks for sharing with us’

‘Yeah, I’m honoured. My parents are still together but their marriage isn’t perfect. He hits my mother sometimes’ Abbie said sadly. ‘And my brother is just like him’

‘My parents are separated but I still see them. Dad wanted more skirts, someone fresher and hotter since mom grew fat’ Arie added

‘Your mom isn’t fat’

‘I know right! Dad is just being stupid and unreasonable!’ Arie exclaimed

‘So I care now, wanna tell me why you guys are fighting and why I should care?’ I asked landing on shore. They stared at each other in silence. ‘Never mind, I stopped caring again’ I said dismissively. They giggled. ‘But you should both know that you’re too good together to be fighting over a guy, no man is worth fighting for. Not when they don’t really care about you’

‘It’s getting dark, we should make campfire and find shelter’ Arie murmured. ‘And it’s a good thing I know how to make one, I’m a pro’

‘No, I’m a pro. You always burn yourself when you get close to fire’

‘They are evil and want to roast me because I refuse to marry their king’ Abbie and I stared at her plainly. ‘I’ll just shut up and find something to build a shelter’

‘I’ll get firewoods’ Abbie said with a smile. I smiled too

‘I guess I’m going hunting’ I dropped my bag and brought out my touch. I guess I’ve found new friends.
