K.B and The Point Of No Return

“It will be alright Nana.”

For the first time, K.B said her name. He walked slowly towards the serial killer trying to bargain with him.

“What kind of detective are you?” The serial killer yelled. “You want to take me to those savages. They will ki*ll me. You’re supposed to protect and serve.”

K.B’s heart beat was way out of place. His eyes were on Nana. Any slight mistake made by the serial killer, Nana would be mince on the ground. Whatever he was to do next, he needed to do it with utmost bravery and precision.

“Aren’t you going to say something?” The serial killer asked him.

Looking at Nana, K.B said, “Close your eyes. Everything will be fine, trust me.”

Nana trusted him. She closed her eyes as she continued sobbing. It was the serial killer that K.B didn’t trust.

“Step away from there we talk,” he told the serial killer. “We don’t have time.”

“No No No man, if I’m dying she will die too,” he pointed at Nana.

“Let me make you a deal. Just put the child down.”

The serial killer looked at him, then Nana. He stepped away from the edge of the building and put Nana down.

“I will protect you but will need your help,” K.B said.

“Help?”

“Yes.”

“Let’s get back in the building and i will tell you about it.”

The serial killer laughed. “You think I’m a child. You will just feed me to those people to save the others. I cannot die like this man. I’m a changed man. I repented. I gave my life to Christ. I was doing all those evil things because i was possessed.”

“I am a man of honor. I keep my word. With you on our side, we can figure a way out of this.”

Analyzing what K.B had just said, the serial killer took an interest in the deal. The expressionless face on K.B made him trust his word. “I think i can trust you.”

Nana was let go. She ran to K.B and jumped at him. He tightly held her while she clinged on him. To the serial killer, he turned and said, “Let’s get back inside.”

“Not so fast,” Renard emerged out of the building. “Well, well look who we have here,” he pointed his gun at K.B and the serial killer while his friend followed behind.

“Is this your plan old man!” The serial killer yelled at K.B. “You have betrayed me.”

“Shut up!” Renard shouted. “On your knees.”

Briskly, the serial killer was on his knees. K.B was just standing with Nana in his arms.

“You too old man,” the other one said.

“You heard him,” Renard added. “You have our bombs.” He looked at K.B.

K.B said nothing but just looked at the two men.

“You got to me earlier, I’m not letting it happen again,” Renard said to K.B. “Get on your knees or I’ll hurt that child.”

Breathing heavily, K.B got to his knees. Renard started walking rounding them.

“If i could i would ki*ll you now,” he said looking at the serial killer. “You’re societies abomination. You need to be eradicated. But old man here,” he laughed. “You wanted to commit suicide from here. How about i just make things easy for you?” He poked K.B with his gun.

Upon hearing the word suicide, the serial killer stared at K.B unhinged. K.B didn’t say a word but held Nana close to his chest as she covered her face.

“Stand up white man!” Renard ordered K.B

K.B didn’t badge.

“I said stand up!”

Slowly getting to his feet, he put Nana down. She didn’t want to let go of him. He managed to put her down.

“Now walk to the edge!”

Nana cried as she wanted to get to him but was grabbed by Renard’s friend. K.B slowly walked to the edge while Renard was behind him.

“Now, say your last wishes. It’s time to meet your maker. Isn’t this the way you wanted to end your life earlier?”

Reaching the edge and seeing everything on the ground, police cars with blue lights all over the place, the media and onlookers. K.B took a long breath in. Not the way he wanted to die but this was death too. What hurt him the most was that this death would not be under his control. He wanted to die by his will not by a scumbags.

“Are you praying?” Renard mocked him.

K.B turned around. “Get it over with.”

“Oh he talks!” Renard shouted looking back at his friend. “The old man talks. This is hilarious. I thought you were dumb.”

“sh00t me already,” he looked over Renard and saw Nana crying. Under his breath, he said, “Damn, I can’t die now. Why do i care?”

Renard cocked his gun. “Get that strapped bomb off you. You dying with it will be wasting gear.”

K.B unstrapped the bomb and extended his hand to hand it over. “Here, get it.”

Renard suspiciously looked at K.B. “Don’t play games with me.”

“Don’t you want it?”

“Put it down.”

“Get it.”

“Renard hurry up. Boss is probably waiting.” The other man shouted.

Renard extended his arm to grab the strapped bombs. When he got hold of it, he was snappily pulled and when he tried to let go, it was too late, he was within K.Bs reach. K.B cleverly grabbed his gun and banged it against his face. He struck him with his knee and was knock kneed. In the heat of the moment, K.B pulled him and realized he was dragging him to the edge. He quickly turned and tried to get hold of his hand but it was too late. K.B saw the fear and helplessness in Renard’s eyes as he went flying off the edge. He stood motionless as he saw Renard’s body smash the ground.

“What have you done?” Renard’s friend fired at K.B who quickly dived out of the way and hid behind a pillar.

The gun was still in his hands. He didn’t want to take any life but it was too late now. He had just killed Renard. Firmly gripping it in his hand, he took cover behind the pillar as Renards friend madly fired at him. K.B heard the footsteps and breathed in and out as he waited for him to run out of bullets.

The gun clicked.

Out of bullets, K.B stood up and walked out of hiding. He only needed to fire at him once and the boy was down on his back bleeding from the nose with his eyes wide open.

The serial killer emerged with his arms in the air. “Don’t ki*ll me old man please.”

Nana ran to K.B. He carried her and walked to the serial killer, said nothing and walked past him. The fear in Renard’s eyes as he fell kept replaying itself in K.Bs mind. He remembered himself not too long ago as he tried his third suicide.

“What just happened?” The serial killer asked as he followed K.B back into the building.

The man in charge was busy talking with the other men planning their way out as soon as they had the serial killer. He was very certain Renard would bring back K.B and he would eventually be led to the serial killer. This whole thing had been exhausting. It was supposed to be easy. Break into HQ, locate the lead detective and the acting I.G, have them reveal where the serial killer was, get him, leave the building, no casualties. They were Societies Sixth Sense and killing wasn’t on their agenda. The whole mission was supposed to be easy. He couldn’t be prepared for what happened next.

All of a sudden, the hostages screamed in terror.

“Boss!” One of his men shouted.

Everyone was silent with their hands on their mouths. All eyes were outside.

“What is it?” The man in charge asked as he walked to the doors.

Nobody answered him. He quickly walked to the door and reached. Looking outside was Renard’s body lying on the ground covered in blood. He almost chocked on his breath.

“This is bad,” one of his men whispered.

“Very bad,” Another one added.

The man in charge turned around. Upon seeing his eyes, everyone swallowed hard. The man they had seen earlier was different now. At least earlier, there was some humanity in him not now. They saw a totally different thing.

“Have the connections restored,” he said slowly.

One of his men quickly got a radio and talked to someone on it. “Just for some minutes and you will cut it again. Just do as told now!”

“You!” The man in charge pointed at Daniel. “Here.”

Daniel stood up and walked to him.

“Give me the white mans number.”

Getting his phone out of the pocket, Daniel checked for K.Bs number and handed the phone to The man in charge.

The man in charge got his phone and dialled K.Bs number. It rang and K.B wasn’t answering. He dialled again and this time he was connected but there was nothing coming from the other side.

“Listen to me you old man. You don’t know me. You just don’t know what you have done. I want you to listen closely, you have reached a point of no return. If you don’t come down now, people will start dying.”

Before the man in charge could cut the call, Daniel wanted to go back and sit, he was head shot from the back and dropped dead with his brains spilling on the floor.

Everyone cried out in terror.

“You heard that?” The man in charge angrily yelled over the phone. “That was your I.G. You took my brothers life, I’m taking everyone’s here. Come down here with the serial killer.”

He cut the call.
